“Every goal is a great goal”, as Tommy Gemmell memorably once told me, but some are greater than others. This was never more evident than yesterday. Kyogo is a penalty box finisher. He comes alive between the posts, an area he can find space like no other in Scotland. Like no other has been able to in 20 years.
Our Talisman from Japan rarely deviates from this modus operandi. When he does, Jack Butland is his victim of choice. There are reasons why yesterday’s goal was better than the two from a similar distance he buried behind Butland within the last year.
At Ibrox, one year ago tomorrow, Kyogo latched onto a Matt O’Riley header and hit a first time shot which found the net. The key phrase here is “found the net”, this was a goal from an opportunist striker who knew to hit early. At Celtic Park in December, his left foot shot found the top corner, but benefited from a glance against a defender’s boot.
If you have played football at any level, you will know that when you are in possession and running towards goal, your every instinct is to get rid of the ball, either by shooting or finding a teammate. Adrenaline pumps through your veins and your field of vision narrows. The greats can overcome this and remain calm enough to take in all the opportunities. It is a rare sight to see this in action.
Try saying, “He scored with a [insert adjective]from 25 yards” without the inserted word being something like “screamer”. “He scored with a placed shot from 25 yards” just doesn’t roll. Were it not for video evidence, you would not believe it.
But it happened. What Kyogo’s three goals from outside the box against Butland in the last year all have in common, is that they were executed before the goalkeeper was able set himself. Butland is slow to get his feet into the right position; Kyogo knows this and takes advantage.
With the keeper ambling left in a pedestrian manner, Kyogo placed a shot with the inside of his foot along the ground and half a yard inside the post. The pedestrian Butland looked like he was still waiting on the green man before moving.
It was not a screamer; it was much better than any screamer could be. It was a moment of calm, by a rare and precious talent. Cherish what we have in Kyogo.

Couldn’t contribute to The Dear Green Place yesterday – Breeks were heavily water-logged on account of uncontrollable laughter and copious Beamish………………
I thought we won handsomely without playing brilliantly – although all the goals were magic.
That’s how much I know.
HH Troops.
One of the drawbacks of retirement, is the Monday morning early coffee chat in the canteen at work.
Agree with big Tam G every Celtic goal is a blessing!
I’d expect the club will be submitting a complaint about VAR and the reffing yesterday, appalling.
Don’t expect Beaton near another high profile fixture this year.

I rarely agree with you Paul, when it comes to our recruitment operations and their, but I usually agree with you when you assess a player’s worth to our club. Kyogo is s special talent and a big game player. His record is superb and his mindset first class. If anybody questioned he is our number one striker, then yesterday answered that. This is important as it means Idah is not being put under quite as much pressure. Patience isn’t a word greatly associated with football but the coaches will be able to consider things differently if the wee man continues to do what he is doing.
The window was a huge stress for me, and I stand by my failure to understand why it is the 30th August and is open for three months when so much activity happens in the last two weeks.
Celtic made a statement in the window, they bought lots of potential but also mixed it up a little with a couple of more experienced one’s in Trusty and Mccowan.
The domestic dominance should continue based on what we have, but the CL is a different conversation. You need luck with avoiding injuries, some luck on the field and plenty preparation, confidence and quality in your squad. BR needs to keep at the club to improve our operations and to drag the levels up more and more.
At CP yesterday, loads of the fans around me looked relaxed at the start of the game and that is rare even in good times.
On we go.
Cherish what we have in Brendan.
What a brilliant manager he is.

Far better football-educated men than me have highlighted Butland’s achilles heel in struggling with shots low and to his left in the last few seasons, both on this blog and elsewhere. Kyogo again brutally pin-pointed this flaw yesterday which I mentioned at the time, but seems this is not the case. Thanks for keeping me right
………..
Glad to help you out.
Just counting the days, CHUMP
……………
So YOU are counting the days are you….To what exactly ?
Its NOT my fault if you get things wrong, or maybe you missed the excellent save by Butland from ” Proppers” potential Own Goal, which was an excellent one handed save down to his low left to turn the Ball around the Post for a Celtic corner….
How does that FACT from the game make ME…A CHUMP ?
Maybe your just a three year old….with a TWO year old brain ?
DICK.
Tavernier took Calmac out. Foul given but not even spoken to.
Aye, Beaton had a good game.
from a tabloid i know but funny…
Many comments bashing Philippe Clement and the team flooded Hotline as Celtic are thrashing their greatest rivals. Rangers fan Andy Logan, Livingston, said: “Kris Boyd and others have been asking how Rangers improve that team to challenge Celtic. The easy answer for me is to play the women’s team who know how to score goals, it would certainly be more competitive”. Dr Robert Pender, said: “My cousin offered his season ticket for free on Facebook, had only one person interested and he asked my cousin for £500 to take it off him”.
Is this why that band was created…
The Happy Mondays???

Labour day here in the US. Perhaps over served myself yesterday and slept in.
Nice to see Gene in early!
VAR ‘technology’ in the hands of Dallas and company, – What could possibly go wrong?
The problem remains the same, and the SKY lines drawn are subject to manipulation from the ball leaving a players boot, who decides when it did. We would prefer it was technology alone, if it’s VAR on this occasion Andrew Dallas what chance the precise moment?
The lines from yesterday’s Kyogo goal actually muddy the waters, and in football in general spoil the natural game, the linesman saw onside, as did the naked eye.
As ever CSC
Paul67 et al
Wasn’t Kyogo the result of an informed and decisive process involving Ange Postecoglu and Dominic McKay, based on first hand knowedge of Japanese football and the implementation of a fresher approach from an incoming CEO, the results and evidence for which were still on show at Celtic Park yesterday….
No?

I understand the point you make re ensuring the right funding and support is in place for the football operations. I also get the contribution that Brendan makes to the success of the first team dey to day, week to week, month to month and even year to year. The issue is that few successful organisations rely on the manager to do everything in the football dept. One of Brendan’s few faults is his desire to control as much as he can in that area. Getting that right with a proper DoF might be the best route for long and short term success.
The
The huns are driving a bus through Betty Kubler-Ross’ model of grief .
Based on empirical evidence (observation of the huns) , there are actually only two stages ie denial and anger .
Did anyone else notice Bernardo jump off the bench and run down the touchline to celebrate Calmac’s goal with him ?
I think it’s fair to say that he is on board
Back to basics at 8.27 am
Your wee typo (news/neds) got me thinking .
Should Paul rechristen the blog Celtic Quick Neds ?
We seem to slow up when we get a two goal cushion. We go into game management mode.We noticably slow our tempo and sit deeper. The exception is on the break when we motor on at speed.
I don’t mean yesterday but all of our 5 domestic games. I mean this as an observation rather than any criticism
The effects are there to see 15 goals for, 1 against and 5 wins out of 5.
We are a fantastic watch when in full flow and a pragmatic team who will win games with this approach
I hope it transfers to our games in Europe

Cherish what we have in Brendan.
What a brilliant manager he is.
—————————-
Indeed, it’s his team now and he’s wrestled power from apparent ‘ Boardroom grip, ‘ in a similar manner to Jock Stein, he’s busy with his own dynasty and has even won over ‘ the jilted lovers ‘ he left behind, to go to Leicester. He’s been given a good lump of money to buy his player choices, the directors have backed him, and have complete faith in him as football coach often in the public domain, where regularly swots SMSM on topics of football, and non football.
Tier One Rodgers, here for four in a row.

Noticed that on the ‘Unique Angle’ link posted earlier. Though sometimes critical of Adidas the green tracksuit top Bernie was wearing as he ran down the touchline to join the goal celebration was first class. As was the joy he was showing. Made a great contribution to the game for an hour or so, which as some of us pointed out, is the result of having a footballing backgound from a great club like Benfica.
Bargain but not bargain basement, that’s the way to go…..

That’s typical I’m in Glasgow and had a look in the Imperial bar there to see if you were about ! Next time hopefully 🍺🍺🍺🤞
The irony that if rangers were to win the league then they would most likely qualify for the CL automatically whereas we would not makes it even more important we see it through this year.
On that I was wondering how many co eff points we might need this year to be the highest outwith top 5 and claim that qualifying place ourselves should we win ? Or is it based on historic not including current year ? Anyone know ?
If we went deep this year could we get close to it ?
Fred Colon – Lol.

UEFA has today announced a reduction on the maximum ticket prices that home clubs can charge visiting fans across its three men’s club competitions – a decision that underscores UEFA’s commitment to making European football more accessible and affordable for all supporters. This decision, endorsed by the UEFA Club Competitions Committee, highlights the crucial role that fans play in creating the exciting atmosphere that defines the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League and acknowledges the passionate support that fans provide their teams during crucial away matches. By making away matches more accessible to fans, UEFA aims to preserve this unique aspect of European football culture.
Starting with the 2024/25 season, the maximum ticket prices for away fans will be €60 in the UEFA Champions League, €40 in the UEFA Europa League and €20 in the UEFA Conference League. This will be further reduced in the 2025/26 season to a maximum price of €50 in the UEFA Champions League, €35 in the UEFA Europa League and still €20 in the UEFA Conference League.
This decision comes after extensive consultation with the European Club Association (ECA) and Football Supporters Europe (FSE); it is part of wider, collective work to improve fan experience in European football competitions and reflects a shared commitment among UEFA and stakeholders to put fans first.
Celtic Mac – really?
Today is a feelgood day surely?
Permit me to flip the point (granted – Paul’s leader focused on Kyogo).
The Ange-Dominic partnership delivered one of our starting eleven yesterday (Kyogo)
Kyogo was brilliant – but the other ten weren’t too bad.

Only ever read the i these days; so, I don’t know what the papers have said about our win yesterday. Have the likes of the Record told it as it was or have they slanted stuff, as is their usual tripe.

In the lead up to the game yesterday Inclement quipped” about their Europa League group thus
“Some Champions League groups are easier”
Three pronged motivation for this completely intentional comment
1. Cheap dig at Celtic without mentioning our name. We live in their heads, always
2. Expectation setting for the morons 1 of 2 : You know our Champions League record. Don’t be surprised if we get skelped …. often !
3. Expectation setting for the morons 2 of 2 : Champions League calibre opponents? Expect to pay Champions League prices for our Europa campaign.
On that last point, reporting of ticket price comparisons over the last two seasons (us in CL, them in EL) have been vague. (IMHO, deliberately so).
With the bears revolting, and no longer willing to shut up and suck it up for the greater good?
I expect a light to be shone on this.
FWIW – I also expect their package to be £3 to £8 more expensive PER MATCH than ours.
FWIW – I also expect their package to be £3 to £8 more expensive PER MATCH than ours.
they need to decide were they are playing first.
if works are progressing well, why have they not confirmed the return to ibrox date ?
hhhmmmm.
spurs will be getting the “european allocation” for away fans, that would test the arrangement for celtic fans going there, unless of course they return with a still not opened copland road.

Welcome to the dear green place!
Glasgow bhoys on here will be better placed to advise you on the local parking restricions on a Sunday, but two factors you also need to take into account. The likely crowd, (50,000+?) and how early you arrive near the ground. The earlier the better. The official car park behind the East Stand, (Lisbon Lions) is accessible from Springfield Road, and you will be able to park there if you get there early enough, while parking around that area of Parkhead is a hit or miss affair but again if you get there early enough you could park on Hellenvale Street or thereabouts, short walk to the Park. Preston’s only about three hours drive, lovely drive up to Carlisle, and over the Border too, so no problem timewise on a Sunday. Enjoy your trip, pretty sure you will enjoy the game.

Curious as to when our city rivals will reveal their EL ticket packages and pricing. Guessing not this week but they will have to do it soon.
Although that would require them to know where the heck they are playing.

I usually get to the ground 90 mins pre kick off and come in off the M74 etc. Along London Rd. if you have loads of time park in street on the right just after the cemetery which is on your left.
It’s a long walk of about 15 mins to stadium but you get away quicker and it’s easier in my view
back to basics
You would have thought so. Might also find it strange that Paul67’s leader failed to even mention Brendan Rodgers role in masterminding yesterday’s demolition of our more likely rivals for the SPL title. Could that possibly be because he did not want Brendan back on board last season and spend most of it criticising him? I do believe it could.
Oh and another thing you obviously missed the word “process” in my earlier post, a process set in train by Ange and Dominic, the fruits of which were all on show on the park yesterday. Paul is forever championing a policy implemented by our former CEO, whereas the likes of me and others feel less convinced by that scattergun approach, and believe, like Ange, Dominic and Brendan, there is more than one way to skin a cat. Bargain not bargain basement that is the way to go.
Their group of opponents not a CL group. Nothing like it.
Spurs and United nowhere near it
Lyon and Nice average.
Malmo and Bucharest almost never these days
Olympiakos same.
Forgot the mighty Union from Belgium amongst their non CL opponents.
