“Every goal is a great goal”, as Tommy Gemmell memorably once told me, but some are greater than others. This was never more evident than yesterday. Kyogo is a penalty box finisher. He comes alive between the posts, an area he can find space like no other in Scotland. Like no other has been able to in 20 years.
Our Talisman from Japan rarely deviates from this modus operandi. When he does, Jack Butland is his victim of choice. There are reasons why yesterday’s goal was better than the two from a similar distance he buried behind Butland within the last year.
At Ibrox, one year ago tomorrow, Kyogo latched onto a Matt O’Riley header and hit a first time shot which found the net. The key phrase here is “found the net”, this was a goal from an opportunist striker who knew to hit early. At Celtic Park in December, his left foot shot found the top corner, but benefited from a glance against a defender’s boot.
If you have played football at any level, you will know that when you are in possession and running towards goal, your every instinct is to get rid of the ball, either by shooting or finding a teammate. Adrenaline pumps through your veins and your field of vision narrows. The greats can overcome this and remain calm enough to take in all the opportunities. It is a rare sight to see this in action.
Try saying, “He scored with a [insert adjective]from 25 yards” without the inserted word being something like “screamer”. “He scored with a placed shot from 25 yards” just doesn’t roll. Were it not for video evidence, you would not believe it.
But it happened. What Kyogo’s three goals from outside the box against Butland in the last year all have in common, is that they were executed before the goalkeeper was able set himself. Butland is slow to get his feet into the right position; Kyogo knows this and takes advantage.
With the keeper ambling left in a pedestrian manner, Kyogo placed a shot with the inside of his foot along the ground and half a yard inside the post. The pedestrian Butland looked like he was still waiting on the green man before moving.
It was not a screamer; it was much better than any screamer could be. It was a moment of calm, by a rare and precious talent. Cherish what we have in Kyogo.

Celtic Mac
I know Dom pretty well.
He didn’t bring in Ange nor was he really influential in many of the key signings. I can’t say for sure if he was going to change things for good. We all have great ideas for Celtic but realistically in the job we don’t know the whole picture as to how deliverable they would be.
We need someone guarding the long term football strategy or else we are beholden to a manager again. For me a learning is we do need succession plans like many modern club structures.
Our strength will be clearly seen as Feir Play rules bite again next year. As they have done this. There is more than just tactics on tge park to make us successful.
Butland cant save to his left side.
Oaf.

Thanks for the parking advice, I will look at those, we plan to be there about 1300 so should be plenty of time.
Hail Hail
Prestonbhoy
park in the Forge and bin the parking ticket…
The smiling assassin. A magnificent footballer. All 3 of those goals were things of beauty. Passing the ball in from close to 30 yards was incredible to see and savour. He’s taken their only remaining hope, which was their misplaced hype about Butland.
They have no hope now. Of any kind. For the first time in my life all trace of their instinctual supremacism has gone. They are now trying to reckon with a future that is in conflict with their every instinct. It must be psychologically crushing. Good.
In the meantime, we must remain humble as all their supposed records crumble. We are in wonderful shape. A superb manager and a superb squad, with superb players. The Board have given us what we wanted this window and that is a positive that can’t be overstated.
Sell an O’Riley every season and replace with 2-3 potential future O’Rileys, bank a tidy profit. And yes pay yourself a big bonus as a – fair – reward.
Bernardo will be our next O’Riley. What a performance on Sunday (or still late Saturday night where I am). Was other worldly. Every one of the was fantastic, including our captain, AJ, Kuhn and CCV. However, special mention for Scales and Taylor. Both showed they are the real deal. The benefit of Rodgers’ coaching. New deal for Greg please.
John Beaton is Mr Marvellous – Dermot Gallagher. Another that is paid by Sky Sports. What a sleazy organisation
As one who was not in favour of the manager’s return I have to hand it to him this season.
And also a mention to Liam Scales who had a great game yesterday .
Credit where credit is due…

I agree with all you write.
I never met Dominic McKay but I do know some people who were ‘around’ at the time/his time.
I’m sure he is a lovely guy, honest and hard-working, and was held in respect during his time in the rugby environment.
However Dominic was an oval peg in a round hole and that’s why he didn’t last long at Celtic. We are not a club who ‘shoot from the hip’ and get rid of people willy-nilly, e.g. consider the James McCarthy situation.
Neither Celtic, nor, I should imagine Dominic will likely expand on the ‘personal reasons’ given for his departure.
Let’s get something straight – Ange was brought in by Peter Lawwell and Michael Nicholson, he said so himself, and of course Dermot Desmond also had his input. The Eddie Howe negotiations had dragged on and fizzled-out leaving the club high and dry with no manager as the new season loomed.
The Japanese players were brought in based on Ange’s recommendations and facilitated at some speed by both he and Mark Lawwell’s specific knowledge of the Japanese market. Ange is on record saying that he worked closely with Mark and enjoyed the professional relationship that they had previously and looked forward to working with him at Celtic.
Why are some intent on heaping praise on someone who was with the club for what seemed like ten minutes? This pushing of Dominic McKay to fore on such issues has no basis and, in my opinion, is another attempt of those with the Peter Lawwell ‘bone’ in their teeth to deny him and others still at Celtic Park any kudos.
Dominic McKay has no lasting legacy at Celtic Park. We can apportion blame to those who participated in the recruitment process and his failed appointment – that’s fair enough – but we also have to give them credit for rectifying the situation quickly without fuss, or, media kerfuffle, with no discernible damage to the club.
Our show is very much still on the road. Two great managers later – continued success on and off the park – gold-star finances – first-class player-trading in this transfer window and, a demonstration yesterday that we must be odd-on for another treble and a decent chance of great CL nights to come. Hear Hear!!
Prestonbhoy
Unlike previous there are usually loads of folk around the stadium from 1.30pm onward. Decent vibe. The old days of Celtic fans not turning up until 2.59 is no longer valid. Good also to have a look at the shop and the Celtic way.
Yesterday was a day of mixed emotions for me.
I awoke to hear the terrible news that a friend of mine for over 50 years had passed away suddenly during the night.
I couldn’t believe it.
We hung out as teenagers and played in our first folk band around 1976.
He went on to become a brilliant singer/bazouki player, touring all around Ireland, Europe and America North and South.
I was, still am, devastated.
However, I had promised my eldest grandson we’d watch the game in my local bar. Which we did.
Although we owned them,( I have never witnessed such a leaderless, spineless performance from the huns, mark 1 or 2), my heart wasn’t in it.
After dropping the young lad home, I went on a day long binge to ease the pain a bit.
I have the funeral to attend on Thursday and I’m sure there will be musicians from all over Ireland in attendance. I played in the same concert as him recently and we spoke of recording a song I’d written. The last time we played in concert together was a fundraiser for the H Block Relatives Action Committe in 1978. On the Bill with Mick Hanly and Christy Moore. How time flies.
Here is little sample of his music.
Bless you Cyril, your music will keep you alive forever.

I can see you like Kyogo Paul!
Maybe it’s because that wee mini hun Walter Scott wrote The Talisman that I’m not too keen on the term. Neither am I keen on the cult of the individual. It was a splendid goal that Kyogo scored but for me Maloney’s piledriver past Klos or Nakamura’s bender past McGregor, both into the same goals, were even better. Kyogo’s general play is amazing but he is not the finished article yet in front of goal for a team like Celtic , where 20+ goals in a season should be a minimum for a forward.
All said it’s brilliant that 60,000 fans could enjoy it.
Let McGregor and company flourish.
What a performance from Celtic yesterday. While I was nervous during that first 10 minutes, I couldn’t help but admire how our defence remained calm in the face of their press and didn’t panic but remained calm and tried to play out through their press. I just knew that we’d score straight away as soon as they ran out of ideas and it was a brilliant goal from Kyogo. The image showed by VAR to rule it out was a rank amateurish joke.
Our players were miles ahead in their skill, use of space and movement as well as know how. There were so many heroes in our team, not a single player underperformed. Kasper made a couple of great saves and was very good with the ball at his feet. Alastair Johnston combined brilliantly with Niclas Kuhn down the right wing causing so many problems. Liam Scales was simply a warrior. His middle name should be Cu Chullain. CCV showed Dessers who was boss. Greg Taylor was magnificent with a brilliant interception and pass for Kyogo’s goal.
Paulo Bernardo was magnificent and pressed and tackled and dribbled the hell out of Rangers. Callum and Reo were just great with their skill and passing.
Kuhn is a tremendous winger and gave them nightmares especially in that first half. Kyogo? It’s hard to put into words how magnificent he is against Rangers and Daizen Maeda baffles me how he can play at that pace for 90 minutes. Poor Tav. It’s cruelty. What I love about Daizen is that he is now scoring prolifically for us and is a great option as a striker as well as a winger.
Brendan has got the team playing with style, confidence and panache and I’m really looking forward to the Champions League. He is a great manager and deserves great credit for what he’s done for Celtic. I look forward to seeing how he blends our new signings into this team.
Onwards and upwards Celtic!

Butland cant save to his left side.
Oaf.
…………..
Have you forgotten the excellent save by Butland in the 2nd half when he got down low to his left, and produced a strong hand to turn the ball around the Post for a Celtic corner, from the deflection by the Hun ” PROPPERS” it was heading for the Bet as an Own Goal.
Excellent save.
Butland has ADMITTED since yesterday that he was maybe in the WRONG Position just before Kyogo struck Celtics 2nd Goal. He has since claimed that HE ( Butland) WAS in the RIGHT Place as Rangers had POSSESSION in MIDFIELD.
The Ball was destined for a Hun player, before GREG TAYLOR quickly intercepted the Pass, and fed it to Kyogo, who then took a couple of strides before shooting. That was when Butland had left a bit of a Gap between himself and the Post, and he was unable to get across quickly enough to deny Kyogo.
I am prepared to accept Butlands view on Kyogos Goal, because Butland was RIGHT as Rangers WERE in possession and trying to move forward until Greg Taylor intercepted the intended Hun Pass, and swiftly turned Celtic Defence into a Celtic attack.

Bought the CL package for three of us, system very slow, you have 15 minutes to do it in. Gets to the end and obtains a system error🤬. Got back on past checkout and then it asks for bank approval via bank app.
After completing transaction £500 🫣 only had a few minutes left, so type quickly as you have to “Add to basket ” per order , per individual 😀
Delighted with that yesterday.
Watched it with my cousin’s in Bishopbriggs, after a golf day on Saturday – the golf was Saturday but the boozing stopped at 6:30 on the Sunday morning. 🫠
There must be a good few of them that know they’re beaten before they even step on the park.
