CELTIC’S ‘Scotland Six’ missed new boss Ange Postecoglou’s first training session at Lennoxtown yesterday.
Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Ryan Christie, David Turnbull, Greg Taylor and Jack Hendry are now on a well-earned break after the Euro Finals exit of Steve Clarke’s side following Hampden defeats against Czech Republic and Croatia and a draw against England at Wembley.
Potential new skipper McGregor, who impressed Postecoglou, as CQN reported yesterday, started two games and was a second-half substitute in another while Christie made a 45-minute appearance in the opener against the Czechs before disappearing from view.
Likewise centre-back Hendry while Forrest only made a cameo appearance in the 2-0 loss in the first encounter. Turnbull and Taylor didn’t kick a ball in anger.
All six are likely to join up with their team-mates within a fortnight.
Postecoglou’s first game, a friendly against Sheffield Wednesday at Dragons Park in Newport, is just 12 days away and he has a Champions League first leg qualifier against the Danish league runners-up FC Midtjylland in Glasgow on July 20 with the return eight days later.
