CALMAC GETS SCOTLAND CALL-UP – AT LAST!

GORDON STRACHAN has given in-form Callum McGregor a late Scotland call-up after the Celtic midfielder hit a double in the 2-2 draw with Hibs.

The Hoops ace, who has been overlooked in the past by the international boss, will join up with the squad tomorrow ahead of the World Cup double-header against Slovakia on Thursday and Slovenia a week today.

Strachan made the SOS call after being rocked by injuries to skipper Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong.

And if Strachan is looking for replacements for the injured Celtic pair all he needs to do is check out yesterday’s 2-2 draw at Celtic Park.

Hibs midfielder John McGinn and Celtic’s Calmac were the stand-out players, both scoring twice and would both be a decent shout to replace Brown and Armstrong.

Celtic gaffer Brendan Rodgers stressed McGregor
 is ready to star at the top level.

He said: “The boy is a wonderful player and is getting big-game 
experience here.

“Callum can play at international level, but he needs to be selected.

“You saw his goals against Hibs. Both different – a late run into the box with a touch and finish then great composure for the second.

“In internationals, you need technique and tactical understanding, which Callum has.

“And one of the boy’s biggest attributes is his temperament. No matter the occasion or the game, his temperamant is clear.”

McGregor added: “Listen, all I can do is play well for Celtic, getting goals and assists.

“I’ve always said that’s my priority. If I get the call for Scotland, great.

“I’m confident I can play at that level, but I’ll just keep concentrating on Celtic for now.”
