Calmness will prevent Big Dan Moments

921

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a home game; 4th August, against Aberdeen.  Since then we’ve played five games on the road, three of which involved international travel, with two games in the Highlands.

Statistical analysis shows that form suffers when teams are forced to pile-up away fixtures.  Training schedules are interrupted as travel eats into time which would otherwise be spent fine-tuning fitness or working on defensive/forward strategy.  Instead Celtic have improved enormously from their Flag Day at the beginning of the month, despite, or perhaps, because, Neil Lennon has indulged in extensive use of a squad rotation policy.

No one at Celtic will be complacent ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League play-off, the ghost of Ross County in 2010 and Inverness in 2011 will see to that.  One ‘Big Dan Moment’ is all it takes to turn a comfortable lead into a tight tie with a player deficit, but I suspect Neil Lennon will be more concerned with putting the brakes on his players, rather than motivating them.  A calm and organised performance is required.

I hope Forres resist the temptation to try and move their tie against Sevco to a bigger ground.

Those Sevco boys don’t like it up ’em.

For a small place it sure does have a lot of mechanics…do you have to be a mechanic to play for them? A Barrow Boy to play for Barrow? Drive a vauxhall car if you play for Blue Square premier club Vauxhall Motors? Bishop Stotford- are they a team full of Bishops?

There is a team down in England that only has people with dyslexia in its team: Dyslexia Untied? Crystal Pallus? Deportivo Lack a Talent? Breast Homage Albion? Bayern Bru? Bayer Neverlosin…my favourite is Hajduk Spliff v Grass Smokers Zurich…

keep pressing\releasing that f8 key during startup and it should give a restore option, use the arrow keys to get to the reastore option and press enter to select, it should then give the option to restore to last good start.

When Barton screws the nut he is a fine player but the trouble is the nut does a 360 and then some with that one.

  7. Would hate to see Barton at Celtic, I am confident it will never happen.

Even if you take the moral argument out of it, for all his football talent, QPR join Man City and Newcastle who have jettisoned him out their clubs. Says it all really.

    relax relax…….

    from the Guardian

Joey Barton has claimed that he is close to completing a move to Marseille within the next few days after lifting the lid on a turbulent last few months at Queens Park Rangers.

The 29-year-old, who is serving a 12-match ban after his dismissal in the final match of last season against Manchester City, on Sunday night reeled off a series of tweets on Sunday evening that included criticism of QPR’s management, an admission that he offered to resign from his contract, and praise, written in French, for the Marseille midfielder Stéphane Mbia.

“Hopefully, QPR and Marseille can finalise the deal in the next few days. My heart is already in the Vélodrome,” Barton tweeted. “I only want to play in Marseille. This is the place for me. I hope to move on with my career, with my life. If that is in France, so be it. I don’t want to be disrespectful to QPR but enough is enough.”

Barton said: “I enjoyed parts of last season and believe I am more than capable of playing this year. But the manager [Mark Hughes] doesn’t. I have no problem with this as it’s my fault I am banned for 12 games.

“I respect Hughes for this. I don’t agree but accept his decision. Hopefully, the QPR fans will accept that.

I offered to resign from the club/contract when I got my ban. I chose not to [appeal] out of respect. But when I returned … I am stripped of the captaincy. Then, made to train at 3pm. I am hawked around on loan.

“Then, I have my shirt number taken without any notice. Then, I read I wouldn’t of been signed had the current regime been in place. I am a man. I can only take so much. I want to leave.”

  9. Barton to us sounds like MSM trying to wind us up.

Talkspurt had a french journo on earlier stating that he is going to Marseille (I think) as no-one in UK will touch him.

If Sevco get through their tie with Forrest Mechanics then they could face a glamour tie with…Ayton Acupuncturists…Boghead Undertakers…Morningside Perambulators…Tobermory Buckle Tongue Makers…Ecclefechan Caddy Butchers…Upper Largo Muffin Men…Cockenzie Chimney Sweeps…Kelvinside Perfumers…Buckie Back Washers…oh the glamour of it all! How refreshing it must be to be beginning from the grassroots again! Can we swap with them…can we?

  15. Well, predictable reaction to my Barton preference.

I’m no great champion of the guy’s dubious actions outwith the game. However…

I think he’s partly a victim of the media hype that has seen Lenny so despised among those unable to think for themselves.

    And on the park…

He’s no worse a ‘nutter’ than any of history’s football hardmen – he just happens to exist in a time where cameras catch all and football has become almost a non-contact sport.

BUT, he actually DOES posses footballing quality – has held his own among a higher standard of play than the SPL – and I believe he would be great for team morale and strength given his personal experiences of vilification, his need to screw the nut once and for all, and having characters like Broony about him to bounce off.

Sadly, public image will determine the popularity of such a move (again, media-led) and we probably won’t countenance it.

However, I’ll stand alone reckoning he’d be great value on a free, and a known quantity Lenny could deploy immediately to effect in the big games.

I seem to remember Craig Bellamy being a particularly problematic footballer in his earlier career especially at Newcastle when he is alleged to have thrown a chair at a team-mate, alleged to have got into fights with Souness and allegedly refused to play in a particular position.

He wasn’t really wanted by many teams before he came to us on loan and since then has gone onto greater things.

  20. On the Barton issue. Who’s reputation was enhanced when Diouf started his crap up here a football clubs reputation is everything. Barton would only bring the circus with him as did Diouf, please leave well alone Celtic you have everything to loose and nothing to gain.

  21. I am not overly familiar with Joey Barton`s record of misdemeanours. What, over and above whatever is considered acceptable bad behaviour, has he indulged in? Is he in the same bracket as Djiouf or is he more of an Ian Black?

Incidentally, I rate him as a footballer on the few occasions ( a while ago now) I have seen him play.
