Campaign of Deflection puts Celtic in perilous situation

Tim Williamson is Celtic’s Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services, but in football he is more famous for an incident in the 1990s, when he was Partick Thistle’s physio.  Thistle player Colin McGlashan took a head knock, Tim treated McGlashan and told manager, John Lambie, that the player didn’t know who he was.  Lambie shouted back, “Tell him he’s Maradona and get him back on”.  [Commonly misquoted as “Tell him he’s Pele”].

The joke works because everyone knows that if an individual is full of confidence, they will do better.  The opposite is also true.  Tell them they are a Honda Civic and are competing against Ferraris and they’ll win nothing.  John Lambie knew this, good school teachers know this and good parents know this.  Leadership is hard, but telling people you have faith in them is the easy part.

Dundee, Hibernian, Kairat, Braga and Newco are not Ferraris.  We outspend, out-pay and out-sport-science all of them.  Dundee were 11th before yesterday.  Braga are 8th in Portugal – and have not won a league game since 17 August.  By any measure, these clubs are minnows.

Dundee deserved their win and could have scored more.  They knew their tasks, fought for their manager and wiped the floor with a team who looked like they had been told they were nothing more than Honda Civics.

It is impossible to win the league with that narrative and crucially, not everyone realises this.  We are in a perilous situation and as long as the Campaign of Deflection is waged, it will get worse.

    The consistent messages in your daily article cast doubt on the manager, whether it’s his motives or ability.

     

    There has also been an absence of comment discussing the substance that has so angered the many celtic fan groups and helped to create the fans collective.

     

    I always believed you wish the best for celtic and therefore I ask you, at this moment do you think that taking sides against the manager is in best interests of celtic?

    We have got 2 centre backs that cant get a game is it possible to play 1 or both as tough guys in midfield. Asking for me.

    The life was sucked out of these players long before this latest comment. The players have been progressively undermined for months and months.

     

     

    Losing the cup final was totally ridiculous but the unforgivable Kairat result was a catastrophic failure and should have been the sack.

    Celtic Mac is quite correct. Two good results over the next seven days and yesterday’s result may seem aberrant. But the fact remains that what supporters are watching this season appears significantly inferior to the team which began season 2024-2025.

     

    When first Kyogo then Kuhn left we lost speed, surprise and lethal striking ability. Both wanted out so there was no point in forcing them to comply with contractual agreements. But those in charge, it seeems, made no attempt to secure replacements or even one replacement of similar talent.

     

    Iff you choose a business analogy and describe supporters as customers then Celtic’s customers are being short-changed. They’re paying plednty for an inferior product.

     

    BTW when I first heard the Maradona/Pele joke it was Tommy Docherty not John Lambie.

    should Rodgers be sacked if we fail to beat Stum Graz? He always talks about finding solutions BUT always does the same things with different players. I watched Johnny Kenny drop from 16yrds to 20yards , in great space to receive a pass – both times mcgregor ignored it and Chos to go wide – like we did 98% of the time. It’s our only tactic.

     

     

    Trying something different for me is 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 with Yamada and Sarrachi in forward areas to use their pace and unpredictability. All is see in our team is Liam scales playmaker and its painful.

     

     

    Rodgers is stale and his constant squad complaining has left his team confused, hurt and aimless – get Ange back to reignite our season

    Does anyone think that Ange would come back if we sack BR?

     

    If he did, would the old Maeda and Hatate return?

     

    Might Maeda then decide to stay at CP?

     

    Could we put in a cheeky bid to B’ham to get the old Kyogo back, as he doesn’t seem to have settled there?

     

     

    It would be like rolling back the clock to the fast, flowing, attacking football that we used to play not so long ago… with Kyogo up top supported by Jota (in the new year) and Maeda, with Hatate and a happier CalMac and Engels or Nygren behind them. Surely that line up would produce more goals than the current insipid and uninspired offering.

     

     

    Or does the old adage of ‘never go back’ apply (see KT for evidence)?

    Cant recall any concerns being raised when the board briefed against rodgers. No headline ablut the effects or how it would be demotivating to him and the quest for success Paul67.

     

     

    What we are witnessing is the result of a boardroom full of folk who always, always, always put profit before anything else. The board have asset stripped the team.

     

     

    What we are witnessing is disfunction from the top which is now effecting all of the club.

    rodgers stubbornness towards our asian players is obvious to see. Established players and players we signed (without his approval) have either declined or not got a look in. Why do we use players in pre season? to get a look a their quality – Inamura showed up well and impressed every time he was used – then disappears. Yamada looked raw but was a nuisance and had something energetic about him. I’m not saying they are celtic quality – but when we are flat , predictable , boring etc.. . try something else – even if it spooks the opposition.

     

     

    If we lose to hearts , not only do we go 8 points behind – rangers will likely be 5 behind , giving them a boost of hope. I think they have good players (better wingers than we have) and who knows what Rohl will get out of them.

     

     

    Big couple weeks for Celtic but we all get the feeling its a dead end unless something drastic happens.

     

     

    PS Ban the green brigade. They bring nothing but negativity and their songs are out of sync with events on the pitch – support the team, maintain our traditions and be grateful for what we achieved in the last 15 years (unprecedented) . Protest without affecting the energy and psychology on the pitch please!

    That is one of the things that has annoyed me about Brendan. I presume he wasn’t involved in their signings and his petulance means he doesn’t want to play them. The same applies to the young centre back from Man City. A case of cutting off the nose to spite the face.

    I went to a Harley St doctor (a Phartologist) a few years back.

     

    My problem was that every time I broke wind, it sounded like ‘Honda’!!

     

    He told me to undress and he proceeded to look at my colon with a medical telescope.

     

    Eventually he said, ‘Ah ha, I see what the problem is, you have an abscess in your back passage.’

     

    I asked why this would make my wind break sound like ‘HONDA’?

     

     

    He stated that, Everyone knows that ‘an abscess makes the fart go Honda’
