Campaign of Deflection puts Celtic in perilous situation

242

Tim Williamson is Celtic’s Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services, but in football he is more famous for an incident in the 1990s, when he was Partick Thistle’s physio.  Thistle player Colin McGlashan took a head knock, Tim treated McGlashan and told manager, John Lambie, that the player didn’t know who he was.  Lambie shouted back, “Tell him he’s Maradona and get him back on”.  [Commonly misquoted as “Tell him he’s Pele”].

The joke works because everyone knows that if an individual is full of confidence, they will do better.  The opposite is also true.  Tell them they are a Honda Civic and are competing against Ferraris and they’ll win nothing.  John Lambie knew this, good school teachers know this and good parents know this.  Leadership is hard, but telling people you have faith in them is the easy part.

Dundee, Hibernian, Kairat, Braga and Newco are not Ferraris.  We outspend, out-pay and out-sport-science all of them.  Dundee were 11th before yesterday.  Braga are 8th in Portugal – and have not won a league game since 17 August.  By any measure, these clubs are minnows.

Dundee deserved their win and could have scored more.  They knew their tasks, fought for their manager and wiped the floor with a team who looked like they had been told they were nothing more than Honda Civics.

It is impossible to win the league with that narrative and crucially, not everyone realises this.  We are in a perilous situation and as long as the Campaign of Deflection is waged, it will get worse.

Re Yamada and the Euro squad?

To be fair to Brendan Rodgers he had limited slots available if he was going to accommodate both new wingers.

It came down to a straight call between Johnny Kenny and Shin.

Kenny had a pedigree of some kind scoring goals in European competition group stages … while on loan at Shamrock Rovers.

    IMHO?

BR made a logical, defensible choice.

  2. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

But the discussion shines a light on one of the issues.

We’ve got numbers but not quality.

To a layman, that is a straight squad management failing.

(FWIW – I hate big squads)

Every single ball thrown onto the park yesterday by the support said to the players…..we don’t think you’re good enough but go and win the game/league for us….crazy.

BR has allowed this to fester/happen.

He wants out….put him on gardening leave and go n get Knutsen or Danny Rose or someone similar right away.

Let Daezan and Reo go in January and give the new manager 10s of millions to go snd sign players he knows and has lined up at the beginning of January.

If we were steamrolling the opposition I would say well they will need to wait for an opportunity fair enough.

His job is to get the best out of all our players, not sideline without so much as a by or leave. There is more than a hint of petulance about his attitude. If I was them I’d be turning up in a top of the range Lexus….

  7. It Has gone from “I WAS BORN INTO CELTIC” to trying to throw cup finals to Rangers.

Why have Celtic’s 2 cup final heroes been in the Rodgers doghouse, AFTER, they scored the goal that won the cup?

Bernardo and Idah became the lepers of the dressing room, coming off the bench for 5 minutes here and there is not how you treat Hunskelpers!

Idah was driven to drink by Rodger’s doghouse, and with NDA agreements prohibiting him from speaking out about Celtics own Nurse Ratched/Rodgers.

That must be why we don’t sign Apaches and stuff.

Much better to be the big Indian than a Celtic NDA victim.

NDA’s are get outs for folk who have stuff to hide!

Fk business – be a fitba CLUB again.

You don’t need a lot of money to create heroes.

    Stephen Pressley proved that yesterday.

And for SP being called a “Hobo” on here were has the class gone?

The fathers of the starving children whom Brother Walfrid fed, ASPIRED to be HOBOS – THAT is how bad it was back then.

Maybe we have lost the run of ourselves?

Becoming a business has shredded our Celtic souls.

There are more Celtic souls running stalls down the Barras, and at Foodbanks at the weekend, and working at soup kitchens, etc.

SIR’s getting out of their flashy cars is not what Celtic was supposed to be.

The fans have more rubber balls than steel ones.

    THAT IS THE PROBLEM!

The Celtic that Rodgers was born into is now part of the establishment.

That is why they covered up the big lie, KNOWING, that Celtic fans would be too dumbed down to notice that the ticket price stayed the same.

You have to hand it to the Huns, for the way that they have tied opposition fans in knots about the Ibrox clubs identity.

On Saturday the Dundee Utd fans were tying themselves in knots.

One minute it was “YOUR NOT RANGERS ANYMORE” and 5 minutes later they sang “CAN YOU HEAR THE RANGERS SING” which shows the damage that has been done because NO CLUB in Scottish football deals with a straight deck.

There has been ZERO truthful operatives in Scottish football outwith Martin O’Neill an Neil Lennon.

Being a PLC has not raised Celtic’s football status out of parochial level since MON left in 2005, and a good few seasons of CL games under Neil Lennon.

Since 2005 we have learned ZERO that would enhance our football status.

WGS era was about cost cutting – because the Huns were also cost cutting, nothing to do with MON Largesse but Shhhhhhh.

    What a mess.

  10. nicolas – como – 6 games – 0 goals.

all 3, we did exceptionally well to get the values we did ,

  11. Rodgers team has no guile no craft no drive from midfield. That’s is a signature Rodgers team. He prefers ball taking and passing midfielders. McGregor and the rest take the ball and are coached into getting it wide via the spare Center back. They don’t even look for the runners in behind. They see the runners , they hear the runners but they choose to keep ball.

Rodgers has been let down BUT we should be peppering the goals of Kairat, Dundee etc. we rarely shoot from distance. I’m bored watching as much as the players are bored participating.

Try Balikwisha in the pocket false 9 , he’s good with the ball , try yamada who is more a nuisance than Kenny, try tounekti on the right. I don’t know , but Rodgers is not trying anything until it’s panic button

League is over unless he changes or we change him.

    How naive am I ?

I thought there was an outside chance the Collective would say something like …

“Sorry folks. A splinter group did it.

A few of us among the 23 leads, 1 main board, and 7 sub-committees actually have a coherent plan beyond waving stuff and chucking stuff.

On that basis we disassociate from the actions of these daft wee boys and (sadly) daft big boys”

Two other league members clubs, Partick Thistle and Dundee FC have been disrespected in their own homes by this group.

    Just collateral damage are they?

  17. Tuned in to Ham v Brentford

A few points Who is this Kriss Ajer who is dominating West Ham’s forwards, Brentford cruising it with their tippy tappy , nothing on so long ball goal !

Second goal, same long ball, great control, goal.

VAR not properly working according to sky is given offside by the thickness of the forward’s nail varnish. Nothing to show on the big screen,

Anyway, if you can’t go through them go over the top.

*SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2025-26*

*RESULTS FROM GAME #14 DUNDEE 2 CELTIC 0*

    Good evening, friends.

There are certain games that really leave me lost for words and this was one of them. So, apologies but there’ll be no match report from me on this one. There’s a big elephant in the room. But that room is in a building owned by bigger elephants.

We have fallen 5 points behind Hearts with the Edinburgh side also being 7 goals better off. Hibs sit in 3rd place, 6 behind Celtic but only 5 ahead of bottom placed Livingston.

We have now played 14 games, winning 7, drawing 5 and losing 2. We have scored 20 goals and conceded 9. Looking at our goals scored, 14 of those came in our victories against Falkirk, Livingston, Partick Thistle and Motherwell. In the other 10 games we have scored just 6 goals.

As for the voting numbers, my most sincere thanks to the 55 who decided to vote. Quite a few of the voters nominated less than 3 players! And there were 6 votes relating to our unused substitutes!

The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.

    Schmeichel: 7

    Ralston: 1

    Carter-Vickers: 10

    Scales: 18

    Tierney: 17

    McGregor: 7

    Hatate*: 17

    Nygren: 1

    Yang: 1

    Iheanacho*: 21

    Tounekti: 14

    Forrest: 12

    Kenny: 3

    McCowan: 8

    Balikwisha*: 4

    Engels: 1

Unused substitutes: Donovan, Murray, Saracchi, Sinisalo

And so, the POINTS earned by each player for this match are as follows –

    25 points: Iheanacho

    22 points: Scales

    18 points: Hatate and Tierney

    14 points: Tounekti

    12 points: Forrest

    11 points: Carter-Vickers

    10 points: McCowan

    9 points: McGregor and Schmeichel

    7 points: Balikwisha

    6 points: Kenny

    5 points: Balikwisha and Ralston

4 points: Engels, Nygren, Ralston and Yang

1 point: Donovan, Murray, Saracchi and Sinisalo

And the cumulative points achieved after 14 games played are now –

    240: Scales

    161: Tierney

    156: Nygren

    154: McGregor

    150: Carter-Vickers

    137: Forrest

    133: Iheanacho

    125: Hatate

    124: Tounekti

    119: Engels

    115: Maeda

    109: Donovan

    100: McCowan

    97: Saracchi

    79: Ralston

    78: Schmeichel

    76: Yang

    62: Murray

    54: Johnston

    45: Bernardo

    41: Yamada

    35: Balikwisha

    33: Kenny

    28: Sinisalo

    23: Trusty

    22: Inamura

    19: Idah

    2: Doohan, Osmond and Simpson-Pusey

0: All the other players who’ve not yet made a matchday squad!

As we know the games come thick and fast over the next 3 weeks and our next tie is in the Europa League at home to Sturm Graz, kick off 8.00pm. I’ll be behind my couch.

    Hail Hail!

I would have no problem with that. You won’t support him in January,so sack him now,let a new manager of your choosing have a go at the window. Not to do this, and have us limp along with this squad is a dereliction of duty.

DO THE RIGHT THING,for the club.

Go easy sir. Take a wee chill pill.

You are not here to see the shit show the manager has generated this past 2 years.

We have gone from playing the best football in decades and signing / developing great players generating real value into boring outdated risk averse and just stale.

We have not refreshed the squad because the manager buys badly and is old school buying from old pals and agents and not his recruitment guy.

Go read Gerry Keogh article and learn. It’s better than hitting the bottle.
