Can we push SPL fan power one step further?

854

Tomorrow’s Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Premier League is set to be the third great football meeting in the last two weeks.  The Prophet of Armageddon, chief executive Neil Doncaster, will face his shareholders and either have to declare he was being truthful when he told them, and Scottish Football League clubs, the SPL would be unable to fulfil their contractual obligations if Sevco were denied a place in the First Division, or that this was a cunning ruse designed to manipulate clubs and fans alike.

Doncaster was surely encouraged by some in the SPL to adopt his confrontational stance but support from SPL clubs was certainly not universal.  No representatives from Celtic participated in any meetings or conversations regarding the contents of the presentation made to SFL clubs, nor was the club informed or consulted on it.

Well done to the Aberdeen fans who kicked off the Sell-out Saturday initiative.  They hope to sell-out Pittodrie for their 11 August game and want to as many fans as possible to buy season tickets.  The idea has been picked up by clubs throughout the league.

I get the feeling that if supporters groups got together we could use this unique moment, when camaraderie among fans coincided with unparalleled fan power over the clubs, to define a framework for the game we wanted, not something a dreamt up by a Norfolk MBA.

Even if we couldn’t get every fan group pulling in the same direction, a few productive bilateral relationships is all it takes to establish an powerful pressure group.

Has anyone else noticed the one club that has still to provide proof they have the means to survive in the Third Division is the only club in Scottish football apparently not facing an uncertain future?

Do you know of any moves to establish links between fans of other clubs? Im not advocating extra work for you, but could CQN not act as a catalyst for this? I’d be happy to assist as I’m sure many others would. Imagine their could be benefits in making away days a more enjoyable experience all round.

I should point out that as a fully paid up member of CECSC, The Champagne Express Celtic Supporters Club, our away days could not be anymore enjoyable, except if Matt E’s tea cooled down enough to drink before Perth.

  6. Is John Brown not addressing a Hun gathering at Thistle Hotel today? I think the show was due to start at 2pm? Please God the comedy gold footage appears on youtube.

  7. I don’t think that any other than the most idiotic club chairmen would consider allowing Sevco into the SPL, they know that the fans will unleash their full wrath if they do so. The TV money won’t cover up for empty grounds.

  8. @BillyBhoy68: @CelticResearch The question is, who’s doing the leaking and what is their intention? To me it’s a fight for the carcass. Charlie beware.

Let’s hope the game / sport can move forward and the obsession of the MSM ‘talking up Dignity RIP. whilst talking down the tic’ can be replaced by constructive analysis and planning the route forward. The fans can play a big part in setting the agenda …. a top class blog for the benefit of the entire game would be a start.

The problem the game will have next year is the MSM will attempt to drive a wedge between Celtic and the other teams with various scare stories about shared gate money, no TV deals etc, these all need to be ignored and focus on improved league structures and playing the game better via improved facilities, youth development, and officiating the sport in the same manner as mainline Europe.

Now that Dignity has gone , their horrible style of football can also be consigned to history and better football can and should be encouraged.

Celtic are streets ahead in terms of youth development but somehow their needs to be piles of cash targeted around this aspect and improved facilities for the other teams.

Last year ( leaving aside Dunfermlines surrender tactics at CP on their last match), the most shameful tactics deployed at CP were Dignity, followed by Jambos. There was some decent stuff played by a few teams with the ball on the deck , which made the games enjoyable.

Next year we will not win the league by 25 points, as with Dignity gone a number of clubs Arabs and Jambos will at least be 12 points better off, and when you consider that after a “big” game many of the smaller teams are jiggered and often drop silly points in the following match. I expect the league therefore to be tighter.

Game / sport is crying out for investment during a recession our current leaders have done a great job of taliking the “product” down in their attempts to save dignity, the immediate fan pressure needs to focus on cleaning out the senior mgt and populating with forward thinkers who do not resemble a bowling club committee.

If it is true that CFC have not been consulted on any of the issues that you mention then tomorrow CFC must call for Doncaster’s instant dismissal

If there is a suggestion that RFCIL or New Club Sevco should be readmitted/admitted to the SPl – then CFC must resign with immediate effect and take any other decent clubs along with them to some new arrangement with the SFL

This whole charde has stunk from day one

Like many I’m now heartily sick of RFCIL -SDM-CW-D&D-CG-ND-CO-SR-SFA and MSM

Get rid of all of them and let all decent fans and clubs start to work together to bring honesty back to the forefront of our game

Lets hope we all get the result we need tomorrow and that “Sell Out Saturday” is the success it deserves to be!

  24. Agree with your sentiments Paul67 regarding fan pressure & all pulling together but how about taking it a step further & all fans & particularly Sky customers like myself who pay over £120 per month, that we no longer accept the pittance that Sky give back to Scottish football considering the amount that Scottish customers put in.

I subscribe to Sky for Scottish football. Celtic in particular. Not EPL which Sky think we Scottish fans love more. Rubbish. Start paying us what we are worth Sky or else.

Its time for every Sky customer in Scotland to bombard Sky with a warning. Rant over.
