CARRY ON, FRIMPONG

JEREMIE FRIMPONG is aiming to carry on the good work he was displaying before he was so crudely interrupted at Motherwell on Sunday.

Celtic’s teenage Dutch right-back was brutally taken out of play by a wild lunge by Devante Cole which amazingly brought only a booking from referee Andrew Dallas when a red card looked an absolute certainty.

Frimpong was left writhing in agony after the wayward assault in the 53rd minute and he tried bravely to carry on before being withdrawn to allow Hatem Abd Elhamed to come on in his place and pitch in the right-wing cross that invited Mohamed Elyounoussi to bullet a memorable header for his hat-trick in the 4-1 win.

Neil Lennon had fears his Dutch Under-19 international could suffer ligament damage, but, thankfully, it hasn’t proved to be so serious and the former Manchester City prospect is likely to be in place when the champions take on Hibs at Easter Road a week on Saturday.

Frimpong, speaking to this week’s Celtic View, said: “Consistency is obviously really important, so, as a team, we’re all focusing on finding those high levels of performance and building on them game to game.

“We need to improve individually as well as a team and I’ve been trying to do that.

“I’ve been staying on after training to work on some areas I want to improve. I’ve been focusing on crossing and delivery into the box. I’ve been getting into those areas, but my final ball was letting me down.

“I want to improve my crosses and passing in those areas because I know it can really help the team. The coaches and gaffer have been helping me with that after training and it’s something I’m going to keep work working on.

“When I got the assist in the Lille game, I was really happy because I’ve been working hard on it and it made a difference for the team. Hopefully, I can get many more assists.”
