CARRY ON SPENDING, LENNY

NEIL LENNON fully intends to carry on spending as he builds his squad for Celtic’s bid for a historic tenth successive title.

The Hoops boss is expected to land £4.5million Greek international keeper Vasilios Barkas, from AEK Athens, on a four-year deal this week.

Plus West Ham’s Swiss forward Albian Ajeti is also due to arrive on a season-long loan switch which is likely to be rubber-stamped after a medical at Lennoxtown tomorrow.

But Lennon knows he still requires additions for what he has already termed a “monumental” season at home and abroad for the club. As well as an unprecedented 10 in a row, the Parkhead men are on the brink of completing a phenomenal quadruple treble before Christmas.

The 2019/20 Scottish Cup will resume with a November semi-final clash against Aberdeen at Hampden with the Final due on December 20. Edinburgh duo Hibs and Hearts will battle out the other last-four confrontation.

Success in the national competition would see Celtic pick up their TWELFTH consecutive domestic honour

And the Betfred League Cup Final is due on February 28 2021 and could afford the Hoops the opportunity to claim their first piece of silverware in the 2020/21 campaign.

Players such as Craig Gordon, Jozo Simunovic, Jonny Hayes, and Calvin Miller moved on at the end of their contracts and loan stars Fraser Forster (Southampton), Moritz Bauer (Stoke City) and Daniel Arzani (Manchester City) returned to their parent clubs while £1.2million misfit Jack Hendry is now playing in Belgium after agreeing a temporary year-long deal.

Lennon paid £5.5million to bring in Polish striker Patryk Klimala and Ivorian midfielder Ismaila Soro in January, but he also saw Scott Sinclair shift to Championship outfit Preston and Lewis Morgan head for Inter Miami.

Lennon is working overtime in getting the balance and, speaking to the Scottish Sun, said: “Hopefully, we will have something to get our teeth into this week in terms of bringing players in. We are not there yet.

“We’d like a couple more in as we let seven or eight leave in the summer.

“Mohamed Elyounoussi was already here, so we could do with freshening up a bit and give extra impetus to what’s already a good squad.”
