CAS, Alloa McCoist, your bucket, Mouldy

Celtic box clever again, and the SFA know it.  Aleks Tonev, who has a strong east-European accent and limited English, denies uttering racist comments against Aberdeen.  Did he?  He might well have, for all I know, but, with only one person contradicting Tonev, the SFA have no idea either.

When this issue first raised its head I don’t think anyone on CQN made a character reference for Aleks, but we concluded this issue was destined to remain unresolved, as there is simply not enough information to consider the matter.  The SFA know this and know that the Court of Arbitration for Sport will find in favour of the player if they persist in trying to ban him for 7 games without collaboration.

Don’t let Barry Hearn fool you, it’s the SFA which is unfit for purpose, not the professional clubs or the SPFL.

It was great to see our very own Mouldy67 on the big screens on Wednesday for his Cycling Santa Appeal.  He left London yesterday morning before resting up for the night in Birmingham.  All going to plan, he’ll reach Glasgow on Monday.

Mouldy (Paul) is running to raise funds and awareness for Neuroblastoma Childrens’ Cancer Alliance in memory of Wee Oscar.  It’s an incredible undertaking and a living example of the Celtic spirit brought to life.

You can follow his journey here, if you’re on Twitter, send him a good luck message, I know it will make a difference.  More importantly, you keep tabs on his fundraising here.

I don’t get the notion, apparently widely held and reported by The Scotsman today, that Rangers (sic) cannot afford to sack Alloa McCoist (© Jobo).  He’s on a contract which the club can continue to pay, while promoting Gordon Durie to first-team duties for little or no extra cash.  They may even have a case to curtail their outlays to him.  I can’t see how sacking him costs money in the short term, and let’s face it, that’s all this lot need to worry about.

Knowing where the bodies are buried

Super Alloa has seen the current directors, and all previous regimes right back to Murray, operating up close and personal.  He knows which cupboards have skeletons lurking, while all of them will be aware of his contract negotiations, and what he has, or has not, been prepared to do for the club.  It’s a classic co-dependency situation.  You don’t sack the guy who knows what you don’t want revealed.

There is also the small matter of management priorities.  Would the captain of the Titanic have sacked the chef for a lousy meal after they’d hit an iceberg?

If you’ve not been involved with the Celtic Foundation before there’s a great opportunity coming up next week.  They’re looking for bucketeers ahead of the St Mirren game on Sunday, 14 December, to help raise money for the Christmas Appeal.

One of the beneficiaries of the Christmas Appeal is Glasgow City Mission, who provide emergency accommodation for the homeless, a dedicated Foodbank and an evening drop-in service that feeds those who are impoverished and in need of a proper meal, for, on average, 130 men and women each evening.

Graham Steven of the Mission said, “We are extremely grateful to Celtic FC Foundation and Celtic supporters for their continued generosity.

“Their much-needed financial contributions make the work of Glasgow City Mission possible. In particular, by funding our Older Men’s lunch club, you are providing a safe space for people to come and enjoy lunch and social companionship.

“Loneliness and isolation are significant factors in many of our clients’ lives – you are helping to turn that around, improving lives and strengthening communities – thank you!”

So next week, you can turn up to Celtic Park a wee bit earlier, get to meet hundreds of cheery Celtic fans, get a ticket to the game, and help to feed, shelter and provide companionship for the city’s homeless.

I spent most of the year not doing this kind of work, so I think I need to be there with a bucket next week.  You are cordially invited to pick up your own bucket, email cfcfoundation@celticfc.co.uk or call here 0141 551 4291 now, before you forget about it.  More info here.  We’re lucky to be on the right side of the bucket campaign.

CQN Annual 2015 will be coming off the presses next week, order yours here in time for Christmas.  There’s tons more on CQNBookstore.

I would say that I’ve not found a connection with ‘any’ Celtic board.

Any Celtic boards charity work is paid for by ‘you’.

I stopped going coz – the board announced that the club would be downsizing the quality of the squad but – still charging top dollar to watch this, reduced in quality production on the pitch. MO’N was leaving and, WGS started the PL managerial ‘puppet-show’.

Then, financial difficulty meant that I couldn’t afford a new SB as my family’s needs will always come before feeding sumdy at CP’s racket of hiving-off the money of well intentioned Celtic supporters by selling them a p#shy product that has resulted in the stadium being half full / empty. Bad management at executive level has caused this in the main. imho

Have to leave now so – Hail Hail

    Off oot, bye.

  2. KevJungle – Walk-on in the Jungle is magic, just magic

    Inflation my friend.

You get less for your dough these days. I would also say that people not going means their is less in the pot. MON had full houses, big signings and success.

Give Ronny £20m to buy 3 players and he would have that. I like what is happening. You have to build slow and create something special. Ronny is looking and sounding the part. The team wins first. The good football will come. I hope you are back at Paradise soon if funds dictate. Hopefully I will be there as well. I miss it every time we play. It kills me. I have been to 5 games this season though. Decent return. Enjoyed all of them. Just love seeing those green and white jerseys run out onto the pitch. Going with the Bhoy was a milestone too. Loved that Dundee United game. Never forget it. Good scoreline too.

I’ve posted in the past that there was a capacity issue at Celtic.

I spoke both from experience as a capacity builder and actually trying to get some initiatives off the ground to improve communication where I found the guys I spoke to very willing, but did not have the time to push projects through.

I was pleased therefore when I saw an SLO appointed (and I know it was to comply with UEFA directives) but it nevertheless met a capacity need.

Following that I’ve met JPT a few times and we are very like minded in terms of what needs to be done to address some of the issues that have been a long standing source of complaint.

It will take a while but now the capacity is in place (although I think JPT needs some hauners) to make progress.

The Supporters Forum is one initiative that deserves support and development and what seems to have gone unnoticed is that

    a) the CST annual resolution re improving relationships actually embraced the support in all its forms and

    b) the annual resolution at this year’s AGM was adjourned rather than voted out because Celtic agreed with the spirit of the resolution but not the method.

All parties to the Supporters Forum will have the opportunity to help improve relationships even further in the coming months as a review of its workings takes place.

That Celtic are stepping up to the plate more is I think as a result of being more in touch with supporters feelings in issues that trouble us and that comes from having in the SLO post the capacity to get those feelings across and in JPT himself (not to embarrass him ) a very able individual and listener.

  4. Bournes……A lot of them are erstwhile Celtic fans.

I know at least 4 who no longer have season tickets purely based on the fact that we no longer play our traditional rivals on a regular basis.

They now take no active interest in games and although they will watch Celtic on the box, they regularly miss games because they’ve forgotten to check the kick off time.

I’ve travelled across the world with at least two of these people watching Celtic, yet for them when ‘they’ died….so did something inside them.

But you wait till the season after this one, or the one after that or whenever Lazarus FC takes up its bed and walks……Season ticket sales will boom again.

That’s what rivalry does. It sharpens the edge of opposing blades and sucks us into a whirlpool of delightful antagonism.

I wouldn’t mind betting that we all know or aware of at least one person who takes that stance.

As far as I’m concerned that three members of the panel who first sat in this case have been painted into a corner and it’s very obvious that someone had Coached into that position, and you know that the sheet has hit the fan So that person is no longer there,it wouldn’t be the first time it happened And it certainly would be the last,20 years ago long before the Internet was popular that should’ve been a done deal and everything would be brushed under The Carpet, everything they done those days was done Masonic style and still is to this day, But! The SFA have ran into something they never saw coming and that my friends was educated Celtic Supporters, they jumped all over the Internet in a flash as they found they had a voice and could express themselves without the SMSM saying the P (paranoid) word, HUNS can’t use this the way we use it for fear they may upset a brother or brothers, that’s why they can only use the Obsession word, as they can not defend or say a thing they just sit there and let it happen, you knew of the bat Whyte and Green where not brothers because of what they got away with, look at all the brothers who where board members and jumped ship, no one had a clue where those two came from, and by the time they circled the wagons they where offski with the dough, and this is what has happened at the SFA yesterday they have been caught up to there old larks and the three persons who where on that committee have been left hung out to dry, now you all know me, well most do, I’m a half full guy, and back the board and the club to the hilt if not all then most of the time, if changes have to be ,ade here and names have to be mentioned then so be it, Celtic should be screaming from the rooftops on what the hell the hold up here is, and demand to know what is going on, and also the minutes of the meeting should be public to make sure that no skullduggery has been going on, it wasent a 100 years ago that a certain manager demanded to know all these things, and it was public knowledge the very next day, actually the names are of no concern, I’m more interested in how they got there, and where they are going, because this whole case is absolutely stinking of the old boys brigade club, and more noise needs to be made, back to you Celtic.

    —————————————-

Agree with most of that except for your last line – IMHO Boys of the Old Brigade is a great song. ;-)

  8. Big Nan, I’ll have to read the link tonight – blocked at work, going golfing noo.

Auldheid, I’ve had occasion a couple of times to use the services of JPT, he’s excellent.

It would be a huge thing if the Board and fans stood up together, nothing would be impossible.

to spend the £20 million on players.

MO’N was playing against a hun-squad assembled at a cost of what, £100 million?

WGS was competing v’s McLeish’s downsized huns , followed by PLG’s downsized huns.

When ebt-Walter appeared, WGS clinched 3 in a row when the huns reached the Uefa cup Final.

Then, the following season….we were ‘supposed’ to be going for ‘4’ players in our pursuit of 4 in a row. The huns were put out the CLQ’s by Kaunas and, DD called CP and told WGS to – cancel the deals for the ‘4’ players.

The EBT-Walter led huns, called our bluff and went out and spent money they didny have and brought in, Jellyfish – Naibalance – Whittaker – sumdy else?

Our response to the huns spending spree was, to bring back Shaun Maloney?

I hope to bump into yer goodself and many other CQNer’s – one day at CP.

Indeed. In my opinion we have never had a player since who could even attempt to attack a header like that. I suppose it takes timing, positioning and conviction of a level that only the top players have?

I thought you made a valid point without punctuation a long post can be impossible to read some might call it rude and incsonsiderate for the readers because you don’t know where it starts you don’t know where it stops you don’t know it’s poetry you don’t know it’s not but it’s like being in the pub and someone rants on for 10 minutes without a breath and shouting over anyone who nods in agreement all a bit pointless in the end but I’ll tell you this I’ve found it’s rarely worth bothering trying to read to the end of such unpuncuated gibberish anyways as it isn’t long before you are accused of abuse if you try to engage said communicant however if you want to pursue it perhaps a taste of the communican’ts own medicine might get the point across but I won’t hold my breath

I spoke to JPT in October at the fans forum, and brought to his attention about the lack of policing at Bridgton X after Celtic home games, on that night I told him that there isn’t any cops there at all.

And he said that he was concerned as I told him our bus was attacked, and he said he would get right on it and make it a priority and he wrote it down, now I know he is a very busy man and can’t do everything for everyone at the drop of a hat, but he did say he would prioritise it.

To this day there are still no cops there, and I only hope nothing happens, it’s either a case of he didn’t bother, or the cops didnt, be it on there heads and God forbid if any thing does, it’s not the nicest place in the world to go past at any time of the day, never mind after a Celtic game.

Yes, I agree and I was reluctant to fathom, let alone accept that those Celtic supporters exist, but yes, three years later they are out there.

If your major most serious rival ceases to exist, it’s bound to affect your perception of football and personal conclusions will manifest themselves, in different ways.

I genuinely believe that what our main rival was ‘found out’ and ‘confirmed’ to have been doing resulting in their liquidation, has had a similar sickening effect on our support and a ‘ why should I bother going to see Celtic feeling ‘ on the every week, Celtic fan.

The OBBA is another major factor, another nail in the coffin that Rangers took to their grave. It’s demonizing and equalizing effect, on Celtic fans, because there was no will to properly tackle sectarianism, is colossal.

Celtic will rise again, but only after we’ve gotten smaller and smaller, and we’ll be treading water for years, with a bereft SFA/SPL and an officially, financially and morally bankrupt League pro forma, that we’ll have won, before we start.
