Cash windfall for Celtic fans

998

Readers of Celtic Quick News will know that our club has not been out of debt since Fergus gathered up our cash in 1994 and set about building the new stadium.  19 years later, with the mad arms race which consumed Scottish football over, we stand on the verge of coming out of debt.

The full consequences of this will not be known for years to come but the first material benefit is the £100 discount per season ticket Celtic announced today.  We’re no longer in debt, we can team-build in a measured and sustainable manner, and with Champions League money in the bank, Celtic have cut prices.

I know season ticket holders who missed out on the Barcelona, Spartak and Benfica games as, on top of everything else, they could not afford Champions League tickets.  If we get back to the group stage next season, supporters will be able to buy their season tickets and Champions League group tickets for less money than they paid for SPL tickets this season.

The return of the £50 under-13 ticket is also very welcome, along with a tiered level for older children.  With so many competing distractions, it is important that we bring as many young people into our community as possible.

Peter Lawwell’s comments underline the importance of bums on seats to everything that happens at Celtic, “The backing of our fans has, as ever, been crucial.  Domestically and in Europe they have once again been right with us and we felt it important that we rewarded their commitment by making this gesture”.

More welcome good news for the Champions.

Two shiny new season books for a similar price as I paid last year for my own seat.

Big Italian clubs are owned by big sugar daddies who are in the position of being able to cough up. The crisis has hit them hard and that has reduced the amounts they are willing to cough up . These days they like to spread the payment over the length of the contract — eg -if Juve sign Ibrahimovic they will give him a 4 year contract and pay PSG the transfer fee in 4 staged payments .

‘Why did D&P sell the assets to Sevco Scotland Ltd when another company had an exclusivity clause?’

I’d hazard a guess that D&P will have received a letter from Green’s solicitors saying that their client Sevco 5088 had either directed that the purchase was to proceed in the name of sevco scotland ltd or that sevco 5088 had assigned their interest under the contract to sevco scotland ltd and D&P would have made no further enquiry beyond that.

Agree on Larsson but couldnt see him as a mere coach, get him in as manager….

    ………………………………………

Stuff that EN, give him one shoe, stick him on the bench and bring him on as an impact sub. Last year in the charity ManU game he looked fitter than most current SPL players. Plus he can coach our young guns:-)

I’d eat my hat if NFL were to even entertain the possibility of have the KoK on the coaching staff.

I could be doing with one of your pain nurses this morning, I think I told you about me falling down the four steps outside my house, I landed on my shoulder but I felt fine, fallen many times in my life so quite experienced in the art of falling, but since the weekend My neck has stiffened up, it’s agony and I’m wondering if it could be a belated action to that fall, when I fell most of my shoulder took the brunt of my fall.

  8. Estadio George Graham had 6 defenders, 5 of whom could play any position at the back. Tony Adams being the centre back stalwart. Their robustness discouraged physical harassment and therefore reduced the risk of injury – to them.

Even going out on the randan for days on end didn’t seem to affect them.

I don’t see Henke going for it. I think he is happy in Sweden these days. I would see him getting the national job there in time. He is happy that his kids are growing up in his homeland and he and his wife seem to be very settled there. Scotland is a great country but I think Sweden is possibly a better country and suits his needs right now.

There is no hurry for Henrik to take a big job and up root his family again.

The man is putting his happiness and his family first. He has the cash to do that. Good luck to him. The feyenoord episode was a big lesson in the life of Henrik Larsson and one we at Celtic benefited from. He learned that it is more important to be happy than anything else in life. We were a match made in heaven for Henrik. We loved him and he loved us for it.

Re Sutton coming back in some form of forward coaching role – sounds a good idea to me but was it not the case that he and NFL did not get on?

Watching Celtic these days I am struck by how far apart our forwards play – when we play two recognised forwards -and feel that cannot be right

Ah, the ole ‘Willie Miller syndrome’.

Football club has a perfectly adequate manager doing more than a decent job. Some fans decide they want a legendary player in as a replacement.

    The rest is history.

Aberdeen have never recovered from sacking Alex Smith and placing Miller in charge of the team.

The very suggestion that Neil Lennon should be replaced at all is bonkers anyway.

  25. IT’S Champions League final time for Santos Laguna tonight, as the green and white hoops of Mexico bid to lift the trophy.

Celtic’s brother club play the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League final tonight against rivals, Monterrey, and they are determined to go one better than last year.

Last season, it was Monterrey who beat Santos Laguna in the final, and the hoops, on the back of a 1-0 league victory over their rivals last weekend, are confident of making amends for the heartache of 12 months ago.

And everyone at Celtic Football Club wishes Santos Laguna good luck for both legs of the final.

The CONCACAF Champions League is an annual competitions organised by the Confederation of North, Central American & Caribbean Association Football.

Who is our South American football correspondent? Is there anyone worthwhile in that side we could look at bringing in? I don’t see Marc Crosas coming back but with making the South American CL latter stages they must have a few players that are worth a punt.
