Go Ahead Eagles have only twice broken the €2m barrier when selling a player, once for €3m and once for €4m (that’s just shy of £3.5m). Transfermarkt rates Jakob Breum (21), the Danish attacking midfielder who is a reported target for Celtic, their second most valuable current player, right behind the winger who is a reported target for Newco.
After a season when the ‘Eagles finished seventh in Eredivisie, should we really clamour to break new ground for one of their better players? PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord are sitting this one out. What the manager wants, the manager gets, that’s why we spent £26m on Idah, Engels and Trusty (and more elsewhere) last summer, but there is a hard truth with every transfer.
Analysis by The Times last month (now paywalled out of my reach) confirmed that across football, “Half your club’s transfers will fail”. You might out-perform that metric, but few do it consistently and that performance is more often an anomaly than a planning consequence.
Clubs need to have a development plan and, if they want to out-perform the pack, they must stick to it rigorously. Celtic (correctly) do not advertise what our plan is, but it should be to harvest players at the right age and price, develop the successes into valuable assets, and make our money back on those who do not kick on.
The harsh reality is that no matter how good a player’s YouTube compilation video is, we risk millions on transfer fees, contracts and, more importantly, opportunity cost for players forgone. My expectation is that Breum’s agent and Celtic are working a deal from both sides. If concluded, Celtic internet will celebrate a huge success. That’s the easy part, the hard work to become a success at Celtic all happens after the player gets a squad number.

Thought Laxalt was actually quite good

👏👏👏
theres a horse about to run at goodwood called Havana Pusey.
The lovely Francesca – who knows a lot about language – pronounced it ‘pyoozy’, not ‘poosy’ or anything like that.
so that is how i will pronounce our new signing – until he makes an arse of it in a big game then it will be full blown ‘poosy’
😁
Just noticed Macabi are in the CL draw. Why???? They should be banned from all sport.
If the unthinkable happens on Sunday, and we lose, what will be the fans reaction I wonder.
And while I’m on, we are looking at another midfielder, ffs, we need wingers do we not.
Maybe another couple of goallies too.
WTF is happening at my beloved Celtic, very worrying indeed

If this true I bet you Brendan is regretting his promise to see out his contract.
£90/100;mlillion in the bank and they give us this.
I suspect the usual person is behind this decision.
A absolute joke and a slap in the face to all Celtic supporters 😡
%
A Celtic supporter base who lazily, sneakily, trying to be a bunch of fly men and wummen, and go along with the Rangers are Sevco, Old Firm scumbaggery sucking, Celtic PLC, Silent in on it SMSM lol, Kerrydale Street, Wall Street, London Stock Exchange, You Know Who Bankers, fuelled cover up of Rangers being a new club after Rangers/Sevco got promoted in 2016.
I’d say that the All seated dumbfck era of PLC financiers who fell for the duplicitous PLC “Save Rangers” £49 fake ticket grift in 2016, THAT supporter base has trashed ANY rights to be called “Celtic supporter’s” wouldn’t you?
Everybody in Scottish football, Clubs, Supporters, Media, etc, all know that Celtic supporters were the weakest link in Old Firm land and were shafted in 2016 after Sevco’s promotion.
Diversionary tactical recruitment of Brendan-1 sugar coated the Old Firm switcheroo lol
Everybody knows apart from Tims who call everybody else gullible.
Plastic seated stadiums create 60,000 empty headed fat erses with no soul!
What a time to be alive.
PS, If the Huns get to the CL and we don’t then karma is kicking Timmy balls.

BSR et al,
There’s no doubting the success of our acquisition, development and trading model.
A Man City 2nd stringer (with no option to buy confirmed?) appears a lot like the short-lived Valle deal.
Unless there are numerous Rumesfedian knowns/unknowns.
Yes the Lord – and our recruiters – move in mysterious ways.

Just to play devil’s advocate here… I note that those who are bemoaning the club’s transfer business during the current window have not actually proffered any suggestions as to who Celtic should sign and how much they would cost. Of course, these players also need to be available AND prepared to move to the SPL to play the likes of Falkirk, Livingston, Kilmarnock and Dundee in the delightful Scottish winter weather.
It’s all very well complaining that we haven’t signed any superstars, but if there are none available for less than £20M, and they don’t want to play in the SPL, what are Celtic supposed to do?
For example, Brentford had a bid of £35M rejected for winger and attacking midfielder Omari Hutchinson, who scored 3 goals in 31 games last season for Ipswich Town. So a bid north of £35M wouldn’t get anywhere near securing a first team/CL ready attacking player with a similar return to Nicolas Khün’s 21 goals in 51 games… even if we could offer significantly higher wages than the likes of Brentford in order to entice them north of the border.
I don’t profess to know the answer, so I’ll leave it to the club to do the best they can with the resources available, and keep my fingers crossed that the management team can get the performances we need out of them.
I thought Benkovic was good.
Weah and Burke were key in driving us to a comfortable lead post Christmas in 2019. Overall team performance dipped badly after the manager left but they did well for those crucial games
Forster was probably our best loan player
Quiz question: who was our first ever loan player?
Note: I don’t know the answer!!!!!! bet someone here does though

It seems so re gettable targets.
That said our nearest domestic rival supporters were hugely excited about loaning a 17 year old prospect from Spurs yesterday. Our own support are raging at us potentially taking a 19 year old from Liverpool today.
Interesting to see the arrogance and entitlement based on ignorance of the harsh realities faced by our manager in trying to get the right squad together in a tight timeframe where agents hold the cards.
Anyone let’s blame ‘the suits’ or any other authority figure as that provides some form of cheap therapy.
Coneybhoy
There was a goalkeeper called Tom Sinclair who came on loan from Ibrox in the early 1900s to stand in for Davie Adams after he had torn his hand on a nail in a goalpost while playing in a testimonial match.
This loan was mentioned in Robert Kelly’s book.
Possibly some of the players in the first Celtic team were “loans” , although whether their parent clubs were aware of it or not is another question.
Bigchipsuk
You are asking questions there which I have asked for years on here.
“Ok who would you buy then” suggest some names …..always met with. ‘I am not paid to do that’. ‘It’s not my job to find these players’ from perma whinging types who all know better until asked what they would do.
“I’d like us to sign someone”
“Can we please sign someone?”
“Can we just sign someone?”
“For goodness sake sign someone”
“FFS – SIGN SOMEONE !!!”
“Och, naw – No him !”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Coneybhoy
The reason behind the loan was that the injury happened at ibrox and Oldco offered his services to help out.
I’m not sure if this but is correct, but I have a vague memory of reading that Sinclair didn’t lose a goal in the games he played for Celtic.
Another Peter Lawwell signing.
Get this charlatan out of our club once and for all.
Lots of stress coming through this week (me included) as we muddle through the Transfer Window
But we are probably panicking a bit early – There is 4 weeks to go
We are about to sign (on loan) a young man from Man City – nobody was talking about him on Monday
Yet it looks like he is joining us on Wednesday/Thursday
There will be numerous players not yet mentioned that we are looking at
I have no doubt that between now and the end of August we will be a much stronger team
But before the end of August we have 2 CL Qualifiers, as well as Aberdeen and Newco away
It’s a delicate time – i’m trying to remain calm but it’s not easy
67ECW
PS.
I wouldn’t discount the young man from Man City He played 6 times for their first team last season
A very good player according to Pep
Jason Denayer and Dedryk Boyatta both came as loan signings from Manchester City and did well for us.
Have to admit that when I saw Jason and VVD in their early days, I thought Denayer was the better prospect of the two.
Shows how much I know about spotting players.
Maybe “Pusey” should be pronounced a la Sean Connery’s Bond in Goldfinger.
Sho Pooshey, your a shite for shore eyes.

Excellent post.
As Shir Sean Connery observed: Underwear, always silk, never satin.
There ye go,the blogs Basil Fawlty, has told you to sit down, shut up,no other options accepted, you bunch of self entitled plebs
BADA BING. Try asking for a Waldorf Salad.
Talking of Scheidt, I believe his purchase was the last time we gave a club their record sale when we bought him from Gremio.
So now the Celtic support have to identify players, negotiate the deal and get the players settled in.
Away and geeze peace.
In fact let’s not bother with a board or a management team, we’ll do it ourselves. Just think of the money we could save! We could have the biggest tax bill ever for a football team. Woohoo.
A winning plan.

“It’s all very well complaining that we haven’t signed any superstars, but if there are none available for less than £20M, and they don’t want to play in the SPL, what are Celtic supposed to do?”
I don`t expect any meaningful answers to that question,BigChips.
B78 @ 3:34.
Based upon what you have been posting for the last 6 months the hypocrisy of that post is mind blowing.
listened to 3 seperate podcasts today who all mentioned we must be the only club that pays tax .
while not being true, the only way to avoid it is spend all the prifts in any given cyle.
straight outta the murry moonbeams mantra
we paid enough tax.
i cannot subscribe to this thinking at all.
