Go Ahead Eagles have only twice broken the €2m barrier when selling a player, once for €3m and once for €4m (that’s just shy of £3.5m). Transfermarkt rates Jakob Breum (21), the Danish attacking midfielder who is a reported target for Celtic, their second most valuable current player, right behind the winger who is a reported target for Newco.
After a season when the ‘Eagles finished seventh in Eredivisie, should we really clamour to break new ground for one of their better players? PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord are sitting this one out. What the manager wants, the manager gets, that’s why we spent £26m on Idah, Engels and Trusty (and more elsewhere) last summer, but there is a hard truth with every transfer.
Analysis by The Times last month (now paywalled out of my reach) confirmed that across football, “Half your club’s transfers will fail”. You might out-perform that metric, but few do it consistently and that performance is more often an anomaly than a planning consequence.
Clubs need to have a development plan and, if they want to out-perform the pack, they must stick to it rigorously. Celtic (correctly) do not advertise what our plan is, but it should be to harvest players at the right age and price, develop the successes into valuable assets, and make our money back on those who do not kick on.
The harsh reality is that no matter how good a player’s YouTube compilation video is, we risk millions on transfer fees, contracts and, more importantly, opportunity cost for players forgone. My expectation is that Breum’s agent and Celtic are working a deal from both sides. If concluded, Celtic internet will celebrate a huge success. That’s the easy part, the hard work to become a success at Celtic all happens after the player gets a squad number.

IMHO Most of the negativity towards Simpson – Pusey joining us is not aimed at the player
Expectations for some first team ready recruits are high
So a loan deal did not satisfy the anxious among us
Im delighted he will be joining us
He is an up and coming Centre Half on the verge of the Man City first team
Our current Centre defenders may need some help
Is CCV Fully Fit ?
Trusty was not selected for most of the second half of last season – has he improved enough ?
Is Liam Scales the answer?
Is Dane Murray first team ready ?
Speculation Welsh is on his way to Plymouth !!!
In our focus for a couple of first team ready attacking players we have forgot that we need some help at the back
If all is confirmed – Welcome to Celtic Jahmai

Celtic transfer window failure bingo
We’ve heard a lot about Celtics transfer model over the past few seasons. We’ve also heard platitudes about internal player development.
Where a loan signing with no possibility of purchase fits in to either baffles me.
Why should Celtic offer a Man City player a shop window (for City) and develop the player?
Unless Celtic figure that over the next season they can persuade City to sell then I see no logic- particularly with the likely impact upon existing players and younger prospects.

Have we ever managed to sign a player who was brought in originally as a loan with no option to buy? Can’t think of one but it did occur to me that it might be behind the board’s thinking . The other possibility is that we have identified another CB who won’t be available until Jan or summer ’26 ? Nothing else makes much sense .

GOODWOOD
The bhoy backed it £1 ew 150/1
£1.50 ew at 85/1 3 places
He said Tues night it was the only one with soft ground form…
I smiled and said good luck with that then
……….
Well done that BHOY !
I backed the Horse that finished in 2nd Place…” ROSALLION”, as the Favourite was long odds on.
It was only AFTER the Race that I became aware that the 150/1 Winner ( It was 200/1 earlier in the day) ” QIRAT” had some very good ” Form” in previous Races at Goodwood Race Track, when the ITV PUNDITS pointed this ” Goodwood Form Out “….AFTER the Race in particular.
They MAY have mentioned it BEFORE the Race on ITV, but in all honesty I dismissed the Winner right away as it was SUPPOSED to be ONLY a ” PACE Maker” for the Stables other Horse in the Race ?
I hope that your Bhoy bought you a few beers with his FAB Winnings ?
LOL

What is the New Bhoys ” SIMPSON-PUSEY” First Name ?
Has he signed yet ?
Is he any good ?

GLENDA
Jota initially??
OOOPS MY MISTAKE..
The 150/1 winner yesterday was NOT a ” PACE MAKER” for a ” STABLE MATE” in the big Race….it was a ” PACE MAKER” for the SAME SYNDICATE.
The Winner and the 2nd Horse were from DIFFERENT Stables, but the same syndicate and Jockey colours etc…etc for the colour of the Jockeys CAPS.

Not sure about Jota . I was thinking possibly Fraser Forster ? Anyhow , If Man city value Pusey at £20m , that’s about £17m more than we seem to be prepared to part with at the moment !
Yeah, Jota was loan with option initially
One of the areas the much missed SFTB covered was our own version of Superbru SPL in conjunction with Sentinel Celts. And he put a lot of work in, encouraging and reminding us to participate, and somehow giving us updates on how well, or not, we were doing. A labour of love by any standards. Does anyone know offhand if anyone else taken up the mantle in his place for the forthcoming season?
Lots of doom n gloom re signings. The usual folks moaning but no realistic suggestions as to who we should sign that would come and add to what we have.
Usual folks blaming suits but the reality is that there is a collective accountability for our dealings. It is not easy for manager / owner / board etc to consistently deliver success such as we have enjoyed.
Reality is we did win the league last season (albeit against a self destructing financially challenged rival).
We had a decent CL campaign and have really only lost 3 players from that (Kyogo, Taylor and Kuhn) plus we will have Jota back in a few months.
We have signed a relatively experienced international fullback who, if fit, should add to first team.
We have cleared out players who our manager considered not good enough to be worth developing.
We have a new intake which would seem to be more creatively assembled like 2002 summer intake (where we had a bigger total rebuild) including 2 Japanese players (who both look promising), a swede who looks very capable plus potential with Osmand.
It felt we finished last season less dynamic than we started and that we were running out of steam and just a bit flat.
Hopefully we can see Engels really step up and ‘own it’ this season and likewise McGowan either show first team capability or move on. Hopefully Trusty can ‘man up’ and that Jota is more effective on return.
Personally I think we are close but need at least 1 additional midfield first team ready by mid season and a quality wide player ideally now. We can still get these but we need to keep our nerve over the next few weeks.
We will miss Taylor in an offensive sense but hopefully it will be balanced by KT getting to the byline in a more conventional manner.
I don’t think we are too far away and as for those being negative about loan deals just remember Paddy Roberts impact in Brendan’s first term. That turned out ok.

I see a benefit to Celtic
A good young player that ca help us whens we
Is Dane Murray first team ready ?
Perhaps he is being groomed (not a good word) but needs at least a year
In the meantime to make sure we don’t fall short we have Simpson – Pusey
Yes I would prefer we buy a £5m centre half who is as good as V V D
In the meantime getting S-P Is proper team management – he will help
Be positive

I’m fine with JSP. Good business (on paper)
Pedigree suggests good player.
As a tactical signing I’d score it B-minus.
Questions around the strategy are, IMHO, valid.
If he’s a 12-month fix with the strategic solution arriving in next 6 to 12 months then fine.
But we know not.
Frustrating not knowing but, in truth, I dont need to know.
Secondary concern (and it is secondary) …
What does this mean for Dane Murray?
Does promising 22 year old get supplanted by promising 19 year old?
Hmm.
Someone to pick up where Khun left off in February and a dependable striker would do me.
Idah was a loan with no option to buy.
CCV was a loan without buy option, I think
Why on earth would we want to develop a Man City under 21 player.
Signing a player on loan with no option to buy only assists the parent club and hinders our Academy aspirations.
Like Alex Valle , we will give Pusey his development in senior football, then he will be offski.
What sort of model is that ?
HH.
Burnley 78,
We as in Celtic employ personnel to scout and identify players. It is their job. They have the skills, knowledge and contacts to perform that task on behalf of our club.
To expect blog patrons to identify players is ludicrous.
It’s equivalent to asking our scouts and custodians to perform Cardiothoracic surgery.
