CELT AT THE CROSSROADS

MIKEY JOHNSTON is edging towards the crossroads of his Celtic career.

It is now make-your-mind-up-time for the 25-year-old winger who was introduced to the Hoops top side by first time-around Brendan Rodgers in May 2017.

The Republic of Ireland international ace’s future could be settled within the next 13 days as the transfer deadline looms.

Johnston, with two years to run on his contract, spent the second half of last season at West Brom and returned to the champions in the summer after scoring seven goals in 20 appearances for the Midlands outfit.

The previous year, he had played the entire campaign at Portuguese top-flight side Vitoria Guimaraes.

OUCH…Mikey Johnston takes one in the face as he challenges Hibs keeper Joe Birsik to a high ball.

Now there are question marks again hovering over Johnston and boss Rodgers, speaking to Celtic TV, admitted: “I’m open at the moment in terms of where things are at.

“I gave Mikey his debut back when he was 18 and played him, so we’ve got a good relationship and we talk openly.

“I think he’s at the stage where he’ll probably want to play more. But he’s worked hard over pre-season and put himself in a really good position.

“There are some clubs that have shown interest in him, but we’ll see what happens over the next couple of weeks.”

FLOORED…a groggy Mikey Johnston is grounded after the clash with the Hibs netminder.

COME IN No.90 YOUR TIME IS UP…Mikey Johnston leaves the Easter Road pitch in stoppage time.

Johnston was a no-show in the 4-0 rout of Kilmarnock in the Premiership opener, but came on for Kyogo Furuhashi in the 74th minute of the 2-0 win over Hibs last weekend.

Unfortunately, the player received a facial injury after a mid-air clash with keeper Joe Birsik and had to be helped off in stoppage-time with Odin Holm making a cameo appearance.

It remains to be seen if he will feature against the Edinburgh club when the champions begin their pursuit of the League Cup at Parkhead tomorrow.
