CELT EYES MOVE TO ENGLAND

ERIK SVIATCHENKO is on his way out at Celtic and the Danish defender has revealed he would prefer to play in England than his homeland.

The centre-half has been linked with a move to FC Copenhagen with the nation’s champions reportedly willing to pay something in the region of £1.5million for the international.

Sviatchenko admitted: “They are a big club, so I don’t want to rule anything out – but the priority for me is to stay abroad.

“I feel that I have a lot to contribute and it’s an exciting challenge to be abroad compared to the Super League.

“I can see myself at a Championship club, for example. It’s a bold league where there are a lot of cool matches

“It could also be a springboard for the Premier League.

“I’m 26. I’m on my way to my best football age and I want to play somewhere where I can get responsibility.”

Leicester City were linked with a move for Sviatchenko a year ago, but, with a change of manager, that interest appears to be over.

Southampton, looking for a replacement for Virgil van Dijk, have also been mentioned as being intersted in the no nonsense defender.

Sviatchenko has not made a first team appearance for the Hoops since limping off in the Champions League qualifier against Rosenborg on August 2.
