CELT IN POSITIVE COVID TEST

CELTIC have confirmed an unnamed player has tested positive for coronavirus following the five-day winter training camp in Dubai.

The entire Hoops squad was tested upon arrival into Glasgow Airport on Friday and received the results today.

The examinations showed one of the travelling squad had produced a positive test.

A club statement read: “Celtic today confirmed that one player has recorded a positive test for Covid-19.

“Clearly the player will receive all our care and full support.

“All other members of our squad, management team and backroom squad are negative.”

The champions, of course, had already faced criticism over the trip to the United Arab Emirates with Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon urging the SFA to probe the exercise. The Hampden chiefs decided there was no case to answer as the Parkhead club had received permission and followed all protocols.

Celtic organised the trip in November and requested their match with Hibs be moved from the weekend to tomorrow night. The SPFL greed to the switch.

Neil Lennon will take his side into the match 22 points adrift of Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox side won 2-1 to overcame Aberdeen, who had to play with a man short for over an hour after referee John Beaton sent off Ryan Hedges and awarded the visitors their tenth penalty-kick of the campaign. James Tavernier smashed the ball off target, but Alfredo Morelos still struck twice for the Govan outfit.

The nine-in-a-row title kings have four games in hand – and a potential 12 points – as they reignite their assault on the championship against the Easter Road outfit tomorrow evening.
