CELT IN SCOTS’ CALL-UP

CELTIC winger Lewis Morgan has been called into Scotland’s squad for the Euro 2020 double-header against Cyprus on Saturday and Kazakhstan a week tonight.

The Hoops star, who made a brief appearance as a substitute in the champions’ 2-0 Premiership triumph over Motherwell at Parkhead on Sunday, got the nod from international boss Steve Clarke after Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser pulled out.

Morgan, who has already has two caps, will join team-mates Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Ryan Christie for the games that are largely meaningless with Belgium and Russia having already qualified from the group.

However, it will be another opportunity for the 23-year-old former St Mirren attacker, who was on loan st Sunderland last season, to show what he is worth before the vital Euro play-offs next year.

Clarke’s squad was depleted yesterday when Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson, the international skipper, and Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay joined Fraser in calling off.

All three were injured in their sides’ Premier League outings at the weekend.

Former Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie, now at Championship side Derby County, has also joined the player pool.

The game in Nicosia on Saturday is a 2pm kick-off while Kazhkstan, who hammered Scotland 3-0 in the opening encounter in the disastrous campaign, will play at Hampden with a 7.45pm start.
