Celtic’s January 2012 transfer window

916

Michael Lustig arrived early on a pre-contract from Rosenborg.  A right back as tall as the North Stand he is one of the most curious signings we’ve made in a while, considering the strength we have in that position.

Rabiu Ibrahim, past-wonder-kid of African football, came in after negotiating an end to an unproductive stay in Eindhoven.  I hear lots about Ibrahim’s ability but Celtic will have to find a way of turning that into a productive force in the SPL, something PSV were unable to do in the Netherlands.

Polish international striker, Pawel Brozek, arrived on load from Trabzonspor, where he spent most of last year at the side of the pitch.  Pawel is an experienced pro who is likely to enjoy his time in the SPL.  He’ll keep the front pairing of Abbot and Costello on their toes, neither of whom will be certain of retaining their place.

Young players, Paul Slane, James Keatings and Lewis Toshney went out on loan to MK Dons, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock respectively, which Josh Thompson continued his tour of English towns and cities by heading to Chesterfield for 6 months.  None were likely to make more than cameo appearances this season, all will benefit from the career development opportunity.

Throughout the month I ignored stories that we would sell our prime first-team assets, Hooper, Stokes, Samaras, Forrest, Commons, Ki, McCourt and Matthews were all linked with clubs in England and offers were received for six of the above, but who in their right mind would sell top players in January when you are in a nip –and-tuck race for the title?

You’re assuming that Whyte has assigned the entire season ticket income to Ticketus.

I’m not sure that he has.

I am just like you and my wife is resigned to the fact that I’m “reading about celtic” again.

What type of phone is it? It will depend on what type of plan you have with the company you’re with. Minutes, texts, surfing time etc. Costs more during the day anyways. Should be easy enough to do once you attach the dongle to phone / laptop. And the phone begins ‘talking’ to the laptop. A window should open. Go to connections or possibly settings.

If i knew what phone you have i’d be of better help.

I can’t believe the extremes they’ve went to! Catering and high percentage of season ticket income gone for years. My question would be (if the deals were reported correctly) how can they keep the likes of mcgregor/Davis/Whittaker on the 5year deals without income? Especially when Hibernian just signed a player (claros) they couldn’t afford!

Other question would be are we not better off with them financially handicapped for the foreseeable future (years and years) rather than administration?

  20. Has there been any confirmation about a protest outside Poundland tonight?

It wouldn’t surprise me if the MBB is already seeing this as a business opportunity and will have stalls on Edmiston Drive selling pitch forks and torches …

  21. pabloh_AKA_NEIL LENNON on

Was in the gym today and overheard two currant buns discussing ibrox, couldn’t help but listen in. It’s a small point but one said in his whole stand they only have one ‘pie stall’ open at home games, and that it always runs out of them. They don’t have the credit to buy pies in advance!!!

  24. Malone19

Was using figures gleamed from their past few years accounts so they may not be entirely accurate. They don’t provide a breakdown in the same way as Celtic but this is what the accounts say for “football and TV”:

    2005 – £28.2m

    2006 – £29.4m

    2007 – £30.9m

    2008 – £41.3m

    2009 – £29.6m

    2010 – £29.4m

In 2008, they had a run to the UEFA cup final which would have brought them in additional gate receipts and possibly UEFA TV money although most of UEFA TV revenues appear in “Commercial” income as shown here:

    2005 – £20.7m

    2006 – £17.9m

    2007 – £6.1m

    2008 – £16.6m

    2009 – £5.6m

    2010 – £21.7m

I would guess that includes the Champions league money.

Based on that I would say £30m football and TV plus £6m commercial is what they would get in an average no European season. They also say others which ranged from £1.2m to £3.2m (in 2008 again) and this included everything else including catering which they have now also sold.

It comes from a MG05 form submitted to Companies House in May 2011 outlining a change to the floating charge owned by firstly the Bank of Scotland and subsequently transferred to Wavetower.

Initially the floating charge set up by the Bank of Scotland in 1999 gave them security over all the assets except those subject to a fixed charge. this was amended to release certain assets from the floating charge and these contained the season tickets with brakdowns per year.
