Celtic 0-0 Hibernian

1111

Celtic surrendered another two points to fall further behind in the championship race, drawing 0-0 at home against Hibernian.  It was a unorganised looking performance from the home team who gave Graham Stack little to do in the Hibernian goal.

Gary Hooper squandered Celtic’s only gilt-edged chance of the game when, after playing a one-two with Anthony Stokes, he struck the outside of the post with Ki available for the square pass.  Anthony Stokes had earlier tested Stack, who failed to hold the ball but did enough to clear.

When the same teams met on Wednesday James Forrest transformed the game when he drifted inside but he spent most of today’s game adrift on the right wing.  On two occasions he cut inside with purpose, once testing Stack with a blistering shot from 22 yards and later when a 25 yard pile-drive struck the crossbar, but Hibs were content to limit Celtic to such speculative efforts.

Neil Lennon was justified in his criticism of his front pairing of Stokes and Hooper today but Celtic were equally clueless in midfield.  There appeared to be no cohesion and there was certainly not a productive match plan.

Motherwell’s away win in Inverness gives the Lanarkshire side a three point lead, having played a game more, going into next week’s crucial game against Celtic at Fir Park.  Manager-less St Johnstone dropped three points at home this afternoon, leaving them four points behind Celtic in the fight for the last Europa League place.

This is where we are people, scrapping between Motherwell and St Johnstone. Get used to it.

  1. Honest Mistake

FIFA 2006,2008,2009,2011 and Championship manager 2007 and 2009. I have successfully lead Celtic Arsenal and Barcelona to champions league glory. As for Bob and Frank i assume similar achievements. How dare you question our credentials

Leaving the huns aside for now how much more do we need to spend more than the rest of the SPL fodder to be sure of beating them.

We should be beating teams such as Hibs without additional spend. Lack of spend doesn’t explain how poor we are.

But it helps some to use as a stick to beat the club.

There’s more wrong than supposed lack of spend.

  3. A Board who do not appreciate the investment required to win the SPL and who are prioritising financial decisions over football decisions

A Manager who does not have the experience to change things or remain focussed on the important things in a game

A coaching team who offer no support to the manager and who are clearly useless in the positions in which they are employed

Players who believe their own hype, who talk too much about what they are going to do, but do not have any sense of shared purpose and who put their own interests before the team

A club who are confusing loyalty to the man with loyalty to the manager

  4. glendalystonsils on

It’s the boards fault that they didn’t provide us with a team capable of winning todays game.

Only problem with that theory is that todays team should have been eminently capable of winning todays game.

Unfortunately they didn’t have the desire to do it for Lenny, for the fans, or even for their own professional pride.

We need to all be pulling in the same direction but its obviously just not happening. We need to pull out all the stops to find out why

before we can hope to fix it.

Dropping a few half hearted posers who think they’re fixtures in the team would be a start.

It is absolutely ridiculous to blame Lawell for today’s performance.

I do not tolerate colleagues that do not give 100% and coast. I am certainly not going to tolerate prima donnas who get paid more in a week than most supporters their today get paid in a year.

Foster – I thought looked good.

    Wilson – ok

Matthews – not a right back nevermind a left back.

    Rogne – ok

    Charlie – ok.

Collectively the back line looked good.

Kayal – shocking display. Needless fouls that are becoming his trademark.

Ki – didn’t fancy it today. Was it because he was on the wrong side or was it because it was raining?

    Forrest – ok.

Ledley – one of his better games but was anonymous for large parts.

Collectively they were out fought for te 50:50s and had no balance.

    Stokes – poor

    Hooper – worse.

Collectively no movement or desire to defend from the front, chase, harry or run into space.

Sammi – never hid. He isn’t the best but still gives 100%.

Wayama – much more solid than kayal.

McCourt – ran into cul de sacs. Again

Overall – no fight not desire.

    I am gutted.

    ElDiegoBhoy:

Mate, I really am going to chuck it for tonight after this post, but your point is correct and it would help for me to clarify mine.

People inside our club are failing at every level, from the boardroom to the bootroom. Today was a failure of approach, tactics, selection and attitude as much as anything else. Do we have the best squad of players in this league? Right now that is arguable. There are four or five players in the Rangers team who would absolutely walk into our side, every week.

Can we say the same? Every one of our first team squad would need to scrap it out to get into their team.

But that side, we should be taking teams like Hibs apart piece by piece with the present squad. Agreed. That is a failure of the manager and his backroom team, and that failure is going to cost them their jobs when this season ends. I believe that, because I believe that even with the ten point deduction, Rangers are still a better team, play as a team and will rally through their troubles and get over the line.

We will finish second. Motherwell are not built for a season long challenge, and will fold the hand. We are very lucky that is the case, because I don’t believe Neil and the others will be fired and for sure they will not quit, otherwise the risk of a third place finish would be stark and very, very, very real.

We are a shambles from top to bottom. When a Rangers team can take a ten point hit and STILL look stronger …

Heads have got to roll for that. And more than one or two.

    Night all.

  10. To many players look like they don’t want to be here move the cowards on in january.

We need to forget gloating about the huns going bust and concentrate on fixing our club.

    Hail hail

  11. Loyalty with a man who deserves it is no bad thing.

I for one will stand by our manager.

If he goes we will all be diminished.

Some things in life are more important than results.

  14. Kojo

It’s absolutely not the players fault. It’s foult of those who found those players and who offered them contracts.

  15. Auld Neil Lennon Heid

My fairly obvious response is that I do not claim to have any “sparkling plan”. Unlike PL who is extraordinarily remunerated to formulate and implement a cohesive and aspirational (if not aspirational there is no point) strategy, I do not claim to have that expertise. Incidentally, why are the board continually pontificating that we should adopt more realistic expectations of future success then claim that there is a requirement to pay top dollar to hire executives to allow us to compete at the top? Seems this insistence for a diminution in our expectations of success on the park is not reciprocated in the form of salary expectations in the boardroom.

I’m just a fan who has rarely missed a game in 30 years.

  16. James Forrest is Lennon on

    Sorry … clarity point 2 ….

Neil and his backroom team will be given the season. If Motherwell were capable of lasting the distance third place would be a real danger.

At the end of the season, which in all probability will end with a League Cup win, it’ll be rip it up time.

    Again. It’s depressing.

For years we have been told that the police in the UK “police by consent”

Anyone who has repeated that mantra in my company has been asked to explain it.

No-one,and I mean NO-ONE ever has. A load of garbage.

What I saw today was a disgrace in a democracy.

And just as a matter of interest,I missed the first three minutes, and the first thing I saw as I reached the entrance to the seating area was a member of the GREEN BRIGADE being huckled for no apparent reason.

I would be interested to see how they would react when a clued-up fan is wrongly arrested/ejected and goes through their actions piece by piece.

Done it myself a few times away from the football. A few of us have probably done the same, and they tend to back off when confronted with someone who knows what they’re talking about.

But that’s not to say that you need legal representation with you to be allowed to attend a game in peace!

  20. I wonder if lennie calming down in the technical area since his harassment last year has had a bad effect on the team and their ability to get a fupping move on during games. How this team had the league and then lost it last year and have now put in W7 D2 L 3, I don’t know. I wonder if the campaign against him has changed the lennie the squad sees.

  21. Ah know it is the Players fault.

They are effin useless, underachieving body doubles.

  23. why do people here not waken up and smell coffee

in Mowbreys season was the most blatant cheating by officials i have seen in 50 years of watching us

we cannot even claim that just now , they do not have to cheat because we are so poor

some people keep harping on about level playing field well we have that against hibs kilmarnock et al

our team had 1 loan player, 3 free players, 1 player from youth system the other 6 cost us 6.1m

we dont have any great pace in team we dont have any physicallity in important positions

we play a right back at left back who has to turn back onto his favoured foot thus giving teams time to be set up and keep us in front of them

we cannot play long ball game when our football isnt working

    we cant bully teams physically

we bring on an average irish league player and a striker who cant score to try and rescue games

BUT we have no debt so just keep buying replica strips and season tickets because we are CELTIC through and through

maybe as the saying goes you need to be cruel to be kind cause NO ONE ON BOARD ARE LISTENING

    ————————-

That’s nowhere near the full story, Kojo. Last season Lenny’s team ate into the huns’ lead and missed the title by the narrowest of margins. That’s just not going to happen this year. Our team is no longer a team. It’s like an orchestra where each musician is reading from a different score.
