Celtic 1-0 Hearts

710

Victor Wanyama scored the only goal of this game after 72 minutes, a postage stamp corner cracker from outside the box, but the 90th minute created most drama as Fraser Forster saved an Eggert Jonsson penalty to secure the points.

Celtic were forced into yet more injury changes as third choice right back, Cha Du-Ri, was drafted in, in the absence of Adam Matthews and long-term absentee, Mark Wilson.  With Emilio Izaguirre and Joe Ledley both close to returning to action Charlie Mulgrew played left back, giving Celtic a physical looking formation but they struggled to impose themselves in the opening 30 minutes.

Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes offered little up front all day but Hooper had two gilt-edged chances before the break.  James Forrest hooked an awkward cross in from the right which the Hearts defence failed to deal with, allowing Hooper to  shoot from inside the six yard box but he tame effort missed the target.  Minutes later Hooper was again presented with a chance inside the box after Georgios Samaras hit the goal-line on the left but the striker failed to get his feet in gear.

Anthony Stokes connected well with a shot from 25 yards which tested Kello, the only real effort either keeper had to deal with in the first half.  Stokes came close again after the break but he couldn’t quite get high enough to above James Forrest’s cross and his header rebounded off the bar.

Charlie Mulgrew struggled with his delivery from free kicks and corners all afternoon but the ball broke to Victor Wanyama on 23 yards out after one Mulgrew free kick.  The Kenyan brought his foot from right to left across the ball, injecting a devilish degree of swerve to leave Kello rooted to the spot as the ball flew into the net.

With the clock running down Fraser Forster failed to deal with a corner and Wanyama was penalised in the resulting melee inside the box resulting in the penalty.  With Jonsson ready to take the kick Georgios Samaras stood over the ball insisting it was not correctly on the spot, taking a clear opportunity to unnerve the kicker.  Jonsson refused to re-spot the ball until the referee moved it clearly away from its initial position and insisted it was placed again.

When Jonsson eventually took his kick he struck it well enough but Fraser Forster dived quickly to his left and turned the ball behind.  The winning run continues.

Don’t have Sky, refuse to give Murdoch a penny in my entire life, sounds as if Barca are getting humped.

  2. scotlands shame on

ramblings of a man been out drinking before and after game today so feel free to scroll on.

Somethng needs done about the media and officials in this country.

fat sally defends the undefensible and nobody from the media saying to him, it was a blatant dive, whats your point.

Then we have the sun portraying the celtic manager as a raving mad man telling the fat le guen to shut up.

watched the entire interview, lennon distanced himself from it yet the sun allowed to print this muck to continue the portrayal in scotland of neil lnnon as a nasty evil comedy pantomine villain.

    now officials.

last year a referee lied, his officials at game originally covered it up, the head of refs at that time knowing it was a lie not only covered it up but came out slagging celtic even when he knew about ther lie.

Celtic rightly felt something needed done and commented on this “isolated” incident. As a result the refs went on strike resulting in the best ref ever at parkhead for a league game.

now fat le guen has slagged the entire association and disciplinary priocedure and referees. No word of a strike.

mcintyre (rightly) criticises ref, no strike

    butcher slags ref, no strike.

so officials is it only when cektic get uppity you want to act why not when others have a pop. I know you expect celtic to lie down and take it after all these years so how dare we have the temerity to question your integrity, when a lie has been admitted.

My biggest bug bear is gallant magnanimos celtic suppiortes who go on about refs not out to get us and decisions even themslevs out etc. Rubbish, we have been the victim of cheating for as long as i can remember and the closer the league the more these decisiosn happen and the more costly for us and as supporters of our club you do us no credit to ignore it is happenbing.

the fortune disallowed goal, the big greek falling at tynecastle after ref giving goal kick, the bd decisions against dundee utd, faklirk in 2 week period at parkhead, all decisions that had they not been given ultimately we would have won the leagues on those years.

It has happened it is happening and will continue to happen until something is done, games like this when we win is games we need to highlight and go to war with, rather than taking on the bloody chin.

Las point – thank goodness lenny didnt listen to the vast numbers on here wanting zaluska in goal ahead of forster. Could never fathom that out and was on here in august saying why. Every big game zaluska was in he either cost us or didnt make saves at times when other keepers would, he didnt inspire confidence in defence and team jittery wit him in. He was lenny’s no 1 target was forster and he got him, and he has been vindicated not only today b ut in a hellva lot of games this season.

yet some on here still criticising and making snide comments when barca keeper makes a mistake and wanting us to sign the bloddy hearts keeepr.

    give me a break.

new years reslution? how about backing thius squad of players to the hilt like the green brigade and who knows where that will take us come may.

hail hail and merry christmas to one and all on cqn (except hun posters and lurkers)

  3. charles kickham, I didn’t see the penalty incident. No idea if it was valid or not.

praecepta, take care at this difficult time.

  4. Not the best performance of the season today but quite possibly the most important.

Well done Big Fraser and Big Vic.

I thought the Hearts cheats were disgraceful with the long throw in injury time. Big Dan was down with a head injury in his own box, ref didn’t see him and eventually Sammy stopped play and rolled it out at our 18 yard box. Hearts should have thrown the ball back or at least knocked it out of play again for our throw, even if it was near our corner flag. But they took the opportunity to discard sportmanship into the bin and hurled a long throw into the box.

    Poor poor stuff.

Also, if Ian McColl thought Sammy was a disgrace at the penalty, did he ask himself why it took a Celtic player to point out that the ball was sitting in front of the spot? I thought the referee may have thought to check that himself. That’s his job.

Well done Sammy, don’t accept the cheating, even if it is only a couple of inches.

  5. Best coverage anywhere is audio only and it’s on Radio Nacional de España.

Just underneath the top right-hand corner, you will see a box saying Radio Nacional en Directo.

Click on the ‘play’ symbol and enjoy. Completely legal. Completely free. Much better than television.

Hamiltontim – I also refused to give Rupert a penny of mine, but when Setanta over-stretched themselves in the EPL we were left with Sky and ESPN for Hoops games. The club are so keen to be on Sky to heighten our profile outwith Scotland, but I would much rather pay a monthly subscription to some sort of SPL TV instead of Sky/ESPN.

All we’re doing is supporting a bloated and almost bankrupt EPL. :-(
