Joe Ledley scored the only goal of the game as Celtic restored their four point lead at the top of the SPL but although the visitors didn’t force a save from Fraser Forster this was a tight encounter for most of the afternoon.
The opening minutes firmly belonged to Celtic. Georgios Samaras had a first minute shot deflected wide and Victor Wanyama headed narrowly over from the resultant Charlie Mulgrew corner kick. Inverness’ first venture up-field forced Mulgrew into an important interception on the edge of the area to deny Nick Ross.
The best move of the game resulted in the only goal. Gary Hooper combined with Adam Matthews before James Forrest collected wide on the left. The winger raced forward and fired the ball across the face of goal for Joe Ledley to meet it at the back post and knock the ball home. Back post runs have been particularly profitable for Ledley this season.
Four minutes later Charlie Mulgrew worked the goalkeeper with a free kick from just outside the angle of the box but Ryan Esson turned the ball over.
At half time Celtic could have reflected that despite enjoying the vast majority of possession their lead remained narrow; twin strikers Georgios Samaras and Gary Hooper didn’t have much of an opening.
Early in the second half referee McLean had his first major decision of the day when Richie Foran wrestled Scott Brown to the ground, after play at stopped, with an arm around Brown’s neck. The incident deserved a yellow card but Foran was already booked and the ref took no action. Five minutes later Daniel Majstorovic ambled towards a ball played over his head but Inverness striker Jonny Hayes flew past the Celtic defender forcing Majstorovic into a sliding tackle five yards from his box. Despite making clear contact with the ball, and no protests from Hayes, who continued to chase, the assistant referee indicated to the ref McLean that Majstorovic fouled. McLean showed the Swedish central defender, who was the last man, a straight red card.
Inverness pressed forward and forced Celtic to defend deeply but the visitors were unable to create a genuine chance. On 73 minutes an Adam Matthews free kick from near the corner flag was cutback to Ki, who mishit his shot, which appeared to be going out for a throw in but Georgios Samaras chased the lost cause with some effect.
Catching the ball on the line Samaras spun and darted past Williams, who, already on a yellow card, bundled the Celtic striker off the field. The referee, perhaps mindful of his earlier trigger-happy moment with Majstorovic and failure to punish Foran, gave Williams a second yellow.
Back on an equal man-count Celtic were never again put under pressure although Hayes caught the defence napping to latch onto a 40 yard pass but fired over.
Jinky Samaras could have wrapped up the points late on with a mazy run but he was unable to convert.

tigertim – when our new RB is ready, young Matthews also gives us another option at LB. Let’s we hope we see the real Izzy soon.
KC/Beram/Izzy all huge players for us last season, but not contributed greatly this season mostly due to injuries…imagine if we could combine last season’s top players with this seasons!
T4
Whilst the team is winning games i still feel improvements can be made,,,in Central defence big Rogne is a must with either Charlie or Kelvin next to him,,,and we must start playing Izzy again,Charlie is no left back,,the only way for Izzy to get match fit is too play games, also feel Commons should get another wee run on the left maybe at the expense of young Forrest who has looked out of sorts lately!!
Hail hail
Jobo – you might want to change that to “Today I am mostly following through….”! :-)

Izzy has been out since August yet CM never played LB, why now?

To be honest mate, I think it’s to do with the opposition more than anything else. The two ICT games and the Hearts one were always likely to be physical battles, particularly the ICT games. Playing Charlie at left back yesterday gave us more height in defending the numerous set-piece opportunities the MIB gave them.

if we sold any of them 3 now – would anyone care?
this time last season it would have been meltdown if that was even discussed
shows the team/squad we are building here at the minute
my only regret is they wont be around to see it
What is it Celtic supporters? We seem to revel in running down at least one of our players every season. Recently, it has been Charlie Mulgrew, Sammi and Scott Brown. Now, it is Dan and Kelvin Wilson. Personally, I think Dan is worth his place and his experience should be of benefit to the team. As for Wilson, why can’t we give him time? Our manager’s judgement has already been vindicated time after time. We have the makings of a very good team. Let’s just enjoy that and have a party as the other lot go to the wall.

Why is it most subjects can be discussed apart from the merits or otherwise of Celtic players
——————————————————————————————————-
I don’t believe the subject is off limits at all.
However in response to the comments you have made about some of the players (and which others have agreed with) I feel you and others are looking for an ideal that does not exist. There is not a player in the world who is faultless.
We are watching a team grow before our eyes over the past couple of seasons. I am genuinely excited by this. I’ve never seen this in my time as a Celtic supporter.
And on a personal note my hackles rise when our players are criticised after the treatment some of our last successful squad ( 3 in a row, 2 CL last 16’s) received at the hands of their own supporters.
You may not have been one of these guys but it left its mark on me. I did (and still continue to) enjoy Celtic winning games and trophies but I resented the implication that I shouldn’t have.
TGSC,
Sailing On….
Afternoon guys finally registered
antrimkev – eh aye, I would! These guys aren’t anywhere near finished at our club and if they’re sold, it will hopefully be at a price that suits us.
Unlike another club’s undignified hawking around of their star striker!

its still racial abuse in England – the country he is in now
dosent matter what it means in his own country
Our new RB is not match fit, Mark Wilson is not match fit, Cha is a right back. How many do we need, why buy another RB when there is no LB cover and hasn’t been all season.
I’ll ask again why did we sign Blackman, give him a wage then deem him not good enough without any first team game time?

apologies if already posted but does anyone have a link to the common assault that took place on Broony yesterday???
I was not surprised at the MIB’s decisions yesterday (in both celtic and huns games) with the usual cheating, however i was shellshocked that Mr McLean looked on at the Broony assault incident, and concluded that a small word in Forans ear was suffice!!!! Questions must be raised officially by Celtic… IMO if we do not address this immediately we may lose another title to the S.F.A.
My most sincere apologies must go the the lady in front of me yesterday section 109… Mr McLean and his other cheats brought out the censored side of my volcabulary!!!

antrimkev – Kayal was the recipient of all the same plaudits last season that Big Vic is getting this season. What if Vic has a nightmare second season? Would he stay part of what we are building?
Izzy was the Scottish player of the year last season and is still relatively young. He should definately be part of what we’re building.
These players should be looked at as long term development projects and only sold if we get offered silly money.
Any team would miss last season’s Kayal and Izziguire!

Suarez apologies. Case now closed. #talksporthttp://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/luis-suarez-i-m-sorry
Think its a tad harsh criticizing wilson at the moment, the guys played very little football recently, remember that cretin Davies kept him out the forest team for 6 months then he gets injured for us and missed a further 3/4 so think he deserves a bit more time. 3 hard games this week 3 clean sheets with the opposition not really creating any chances of note, ill take that all day long! On another note, think its going to be interesting to see where Rabiu fits into this team with the midfield looking really settled just now and sammy turning it on recently. Our strength in depth is incredible.

Gadzooks sir i am neither inferring, alluding, circumnavigating, referring nor signifying in any way shape or form that you have Terry Butcher on speed dial co-writing your posts.
However what it is that I am alluding to without actually saying is…
That our panel of esteemed CQN’rs can jump to conclusions for themselves without me leading them to the only logical conclusion
and that your honour is that!!

Oh just one more thing….
Long-overdue from Suarez, but he has finally apologised.
I wonder if Marina had a word with Kenny, along the lines of-do you realise how stupid you are making yourself look defending the indefensible?
Either way,LET THAT BE THE END OF IT,imo.
