Motherwell fought tenaciously for most of the game at Celtic Park this afternoon but a momentary lapse was all that Georgios Samaras and Gary Hooper needed to settle the contest. Celtic moved an astonishing 23 points clear at the top of the table and are odds on favourite to become champions before the next return to Celtic Park.
Samaras was first to show after 9 minutes when he latched onto a Matthews flick but Darren Randolph was quick off his line to block. Player of the Year elect, Charlie Mulgrew, then jinked past a defender before slipping the ball to Samaras. The Greek’s shot was block and Mulgrew blasted the rebound wide. Randolph then saved well after Samaras shot from inside the D.
While Celtic always looked dangerous, Motherwell were in no mood to concede, so the goal was surprising in its simplicity. Adam Matthews fired a throw-in to Samaras, who chested the ball into the path of unmarked Gary Hooper. Hooper put his laces through the ball from a narrow angle to give Randolph no chance.
Samaras, Hooper and Forrest all had chances to finish the game off but the second goal never arrived.
Good defences are a lot harder to quantify than poor defences. Today Celtic strolled through the game at the back. No one was stretched and Fraser Forster didn’t have a save to make until the 77th minute.

I got a ticket for the Rangers game on Saturday, someone GAVE me a ticket
I was disgusted by what i saw, I was amazed at what i saw
In terms of what happened in the stadium, the songs they sung
And when I was there I thought… I don’t feel part of this AT ALL
I’m only saying what I think
I am certainly SCARED of this because I know I am goin to wind up half of the population
But as i sat in the stadium
And i am from that background
My father was from that background
I sat there on Saturday thinking this is not a part of what I’d like Scotland to be !
Is it only at Rangers?
I’ve only been to 3 Rangers games in my life
I’ve been in Parkhead once, that was to watch Scotland play Czeckoslovakia
What I saw at the weekend, its not JUST Rangers, is it?
Graham Speirs – “NO! That’s why I mentioned Celtic !!” Possibly point being made by Beattie was that it is rife in Scotland, and NOT solely that it is only just also Celtic – i.e. the hate is truly present at other Scottish clubs, not only also “Celtic” as Graham Speirs said.
Can you explain it to me?
I turned up actually thinking there’d be a big show of togetherness which I was expecting for a major cultural event, you know, people whose club is struggling, i thought there’d be a major positivity in the face of background troubles…..it then became ANTI-CATHOLIC, it then became not about the football game at all, that’s what i didn’t understand, if i’m honest, i didn’t get that bit

Really wish I knew Spanish, lovely sounding language… It’s like yer best fight and yer best lovin rolled into one.
I remember sitting outside a wee bar in La Linea with the current wife, and commenting about the “argument” that was goin on between half a dozen old guys at the next table, only to be told it wasn’t an argument but that a gentle discussion.
Passion, ye really cannie whack it

good to hear that there’s one Scottish Institution concerned with the integrity of Scottish Football

I think Kevin Doyle at Wolves could do right good job for us. At C P next season maybe??!!

From Wiki – “…one may judge that others “have integrity” to the extent that they act according to the values, beliefs and principles they claim to hold”
According to the definition above the bears over at ibroake have it in spades. :)
You would hope that any new co would ditch some of that baggage they might call integrity, but I have a sneaky feeling….

Goal for Levante, making it 1-2 against Espanyol. A minute to go.
Poor wee Vlady Weiss.

I don’t think it will happen either, the time line is not on their side.
The longer they struggle in admin for the better, then the fun really begins.
It will be weird a league without the hun, I must admit it will be a major cause for another massive party IMO :>)))))
Oooh. Four minutes’ added time.

I am gobsmacked he took this case.As my understanding was he is keeping a lowish profile
Forgive my hysterical hilarity. Its the vicissitudes of the semi-permanent sugar high of jelly n ice cream.
Putting my serious cap on.
Thought Hooper looked strangely disinterested at times. Overall we were rarely if ever tested today. Thought of we had got the breaks in the box first half we would have won more comfortably. Murderwell had decent possession but posed little or no threat. Also thought ref was bit inconsistent and as per usual fairly poor.
PS
Still think McAvennie was fantastic from 87 to 89…brief but explosive. Had everything: fantastic workrate. Ruthless finisher. Fantastic touch. Good in the air. We’ve had some brilliant forwards in modern era: Brian McClair. Viduka. Cadete. Nicholas. McGarvey. Sutton. Hartson. Maybe even big Jackie. But all of them in the shadow of one striker who had it all & more. One Henrik Larsson. Doubt we will ever see his likes again.
Does anyone know if Noel Gallagher was at the game today?

I thought you would have been fluent in the Espanyol.
All over. 2-1 for Levante.
Rumours circulating on twitter about Rangers and the money they raised for the Poppy Appeal……
Another dodgy handshake??

RT @ETimsNet: Liquidators visited the Big Hoose today taking photographs of EVERYTHING. Won’t reveal liquidators name but this happened today
wonkyradar,
I think you see the likes of Henrik once in a lifetime. I’ve seen Jinky play, and nobody will supplant him for me, but Henke for sheer all round talent – not just goal scoring – was sublime.

Digg!
While Celtic disposed of Motherwell 1-0 at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon to go 23 points clear at the top of the SPL – major developments were taking place across the city.
As Celtic Park jumped to the sounds of “Championee” and “We’re having a party when Rangers die” a lot of clicking noises took place in another area to the south west of Glasgow.
We hear from an impeccable source that liquidators were inside the “Big Hoose” today taking photographs of absolutely everything that can possibly be sold.
This information is 100% factual and shows developments have taking a major step towards their “institution” folding and formally bringing to an end around 100 years of bigotry – we’ll let them off with the first 40 – as we are nice guys.
The Sunday’s may or may not have this information but as the rags and old media in general are known to sit on negative Skint FC stories, particularly during Sir Minty Moonbeams tenure, we thought we’d put in the public domain at the earliest opportunity.
Get your Ice Cream purchased and jelly ready in the fridge. The previously unthinkable is about to become reality.
Nae liquidators in The Big Hoose, that’s the bottom line.
Ye cannae spoil oor fun.
Is the big hoose under threat?

btw, i see they are set to demolish the 2 high-rise towers at jn of Edmiston Drive / PRW
– they should keep the demolition plant in place, good idea to get the whole job done all in one go
(the “bog” house must stay, hopin)

Perhaps the administrators have just discovered that the entire stadium is in fact made of cardboard? :)
