CELTIC: 196 GOALS AND COUNTING

1

MOTHERWELL are aiming to do something today no Scottish club has achieved since April 5, 2016 – prevent Celtic from scoring!

Dundee were the last club in domestic opposition to shut out the champions when they forced a goalless draw at Dens Park on that occasion.

The nearest the Hoops came to breaking the deadlock came when a shot from Stefan Johansen, now with Fulham, hit the woodwork.

Coincidentally, the team, then managed by ex-boss Ronny Deila, had only failed to score in one of their previous 23 outings – another goalless encounter against Dundee in Glasgow the previous month.

However, since the scoreless Tuesday evening on Tayside, Celtic have hammered home 196 goals in 69 matches on the home front.

They netted 19 in six games – including a 7-0 romp against today’s Fir Park opponents – in the remaining six games of the 2015/16 campaign and scored ten in just two games against the Comedy Club last season.

Brendan Rodgers guided the team to a silverware clean sweep in his debut term with the team claiming 106 Premiership goals, 17 in the Scottish Cup and 11 in the League Cup in a 47-game sequence.

This season, the six-in-a-row kings have hit 30 in 13 league games and collected 13 in three Betfred League Cup-ties.
