Celtic 2-0 Dundee

726

Fabulous goals from Gary Hooper and Victory Wanyama put Celtic back on winning ways, their first victory in four games in September but Dundee held out until minutes before the break, aided by an excellent performance from Rab Douglas.

Another ex-Celt, Gary Irvine, had a penalty claim 7 minutes in but the ref wasn’t convinced; Irvine’s tumble was a tad overdramatic.  Celtic were cut open on 15 minutes when Colin Nish found space inside the box but his shot was blocked.  The rebound broke to John Baird who should have converted but fired over the bar.

A minute later Lassad, making his home debut, dribbled to the edge of the six yard box when he appeared to be tripped but again referee, Beaton, denied the claim.

Kris Commons then stepped up the pressure.  His cross was dummied by Lassad but Gary Hooper’s shot was saved.  Commons then played a diagonal ball through to Lassad who shot wide.

Charlie Mulgrew brought a good save from Douglas from a free kick on the edge of the D after Wanyama was brought down.  The Dundee keeper then topped that effort with a save from Forrest after a good cutback from Lassad, before saving again from the same player a minute later.

Lassad’s movement eventually brought a reward when Beaton pointed to the penalty spot after the former Deportivo striker had his legs clipped.  Scott Brown has been reliable from the spot this year but this effort didn’t get anywhere near the post, allowing Rab Douglas another opportunity to show what he can do.

Brown made amends a minute before the break when his forward pass was collected by Gary Hooper.  Hooper still had a lot to do but nutmeged his marker before firing home, from an angle, into the far corner.

The advantage was almost doubled a minute into the second half when Gary Irvine tried to chest the ball back to Rab Douglas but found the post instead, however, Dundee were two behind three minutes later.

Victor Wanyama shot low and hard from 26 yards, clipping the inside of the post before crossing the line.

Lassad almost opened his scoring account for Celtic with a good header but Rab Douglas was a match to the attempt again.  Tony Watt used his impressive strength to get a cross to Gary Hooper, who steadied before shooting against the upright.

Excellent news..God bless the wee man.

Everyone who was responsible for todays efforts should know that they are the epitomy of our club and will go down in the annuls of our proud history.

A big Hail Hail to you all.

  4. attendance was 41000, good for a games against dundee after the home game on wednesday which seen 58000 turn up and pay up

we collected 3 points and we seen our most promising young players getting more game time, with the weathered players such as, victor 21, forrest 21, mathews 21 and hooper 23 etc… we have a good young squad and one that is not blotted with senior players so young players coming through the youth system will get opportunities to progress with us.

our club have plans to improve i.e. celtic triangle etc… and will pocket the best part of 20 million from european football this season, more than enough to get started. my brother’s brick (gift) had been placed at the front of the main stand, i love the new white top and i dropped a few quid in the bucket.

the best the sfa/ spl can come up with is a complaint against us regarding a zombie banner which is offensive, god help us all!!!!!!!!

the worst thing i can say about today is that victor looked, once again, like an outstanding players who we’ll struggle to hold onto in the long term, but even thats tempered by the fact that our club will be well rewarded when he leaves with a fee well in excess of 8 million

Rab Douglas was terrific today, and I was really rather pleased that the big guy found a level of performance that brought back great memories. Well done. And indeed to the Dundee fans who sold out their allocation and were a pleasure, generous at that, to share the game with.

Great to meet up again with MWD, CelticRollerCoaster, defenestration expert Vogue Punter, Johnnybhoy, Hamiltontim, Clashcitybhoy, Lennybhoy (who bicep curled 20Kg of bucket) and Dick Byrne (who found his wallet amd emptied it big time) amongst so many quite excellent CQNers, known and anonymous.

The community that Paul has created here is unique and it is humbling to be a part of the irresistable movement for good when these people – us – get down to action. If you’re reading Helen, thank you for making it possible for each if us to give a little support to Stephen and Leona, and of course, Little Mr Thumbs Up himself, Oscar Knox.

Last bunnet doff to the remarkable Geraldine C. How Lurgan contains this wonderful, bean filled lady beats me.

All that, and two splendid goals for the Hoops. What a great day in the sun at Paradise.

  6. Walking down London Road to Bridgeton Station after the match I saw a group of about twenty guys walking in the direction of Celtic Park. All looked late teens/early twenties. None were wearing colours and all were of a demeanour that did not suggest happy Celtic fans post match. I suspect a gang of Huns looking for trouble.

When I arrived at the station I noticed a police helicopter circling in the vicinity of CP but no idea if there was any trouble.

Something to bear in mind for future games especially when the dark nights arrive.

Congratulations to the men, women and children manning the buckets today.

  7. Just two comments re. the match.

Wanyama was streets ahead of anyone else on the park.

Tony Watt looks a powerful young man who will get stronger and better with maturity. Sign him up please Celtic before the 18 months left on his contract run down.

To add to your post I agree that Big Rab had a good day and happy to recognise that.

Was delighted also to buy a pint for Sannabhoy and successfully stop oldtim67 putting his hand in his pocket. That had to be a first.

  9. Home tonight with a new found respect for the generosity of our Celtic family

Myself, SFTB and a couple of young fellow bucket collectors were placed on the Celtic way to catch the fans travelling in on the buses, these people did not let us down, many had money collected for us, as has been said previously to see the Celtic family display overwhelming generosity with the size of some of the donations left this man speechless, i hope i never read on this blog of these people being dismissed as customers again, i would like to thank all those who have worked hard in organizing the events for wee Oscar like today, it was a privilege to take part.

    God bless wee Oscar

  10. Tony Watt offers more than both Lassad & Miku. Not a criticism of our new signings just an observation on how much the youngster gives our attack

A few items I picked up today an Channel 67, which in my opinion has come on in leaps and bounds in quality this season.

Beginning of the match Kris Commons drinks in the atmosphere, lifts his his head and directs a cheeky grin on the direction of the Green Brigade.

Dare I go as far as to say I thought the midfield was outstanding today? Ok, I will. Broonie was everywhere and I lost count of the times a Dundee player bounced off the man mountain that is Victor Wanyama, while he recovered the ball.

Number 67 again. At the end of the match instead of running up the tunnel stood and signed every single item held out for him by the kids.

  14. Bhuel CQN how are things. A good win today and an improved SPL showing will help the team with the CL nights.

I think the team were under the impression that you can switch on and off between CL games. Not true in my opinion.

So, pleased to get the win and from what I can gather a performance.

  15. Odd game today. Eventually we could have won by 4 or 5. For much of the game, we dominated possession but seemed to have no idea how to turn it to our advantage. Brown made the one forward pass of the first half and we scored. We need to learn to pass and move. Too often too many of the players seem to think that once they have passed the ball(too often sideways or backwards), they have done their bit. Few show for the return.

Still, a win breeds confidence and we should build on this.

I wholeheartedly agree, Celtic supporters are much more than customers. This is a community, a family, I am very proud tonight to be a member.

The pride and humility I felt today was enormous. The generosity of spirit among this community is heartwarming.

Thanks to all in battalion A, you did a great job, and I enjoy spending some time in your company, CQNers and non CQNers alike. I hope the girls who got tickets to their first ever Celtic game enjoyed the experience.

Supporters buses from Livingston, Tynside and Greenock all had a wip round thanks guys! We had kids bringing their piggy banks to empty! We were handed envelopes with God Bless Wee Oscar written on them honestly truly amazing! Too many to mention but each and every penny counts!

Respect to the Dundee FC Coach they stopped and asked one of the collectors to go on board with their bucket before they arrived at the front door!

To the players partners who got involved donned the T shirts and grabbed a bucket a credit to your men who wear that special jersey! Great to see how you have embraced the Celtic Way!
