Celtic 2-0 Dundee

726

Fabulous goals from Gary Hooper and Victory Wanyama put Celtic back on winning ways, their first victory in four games in September but Dundee held out until minutes before the break, aided by an excellent performance from Rab Douglas.

Another ex-Celt, Gary Irvine, had a penalty claim 7 minutes in but the ref wasn’t convinced; Irvine’s tumble was a tad overdramatic.  Celtic were cut open on 15 minutes when Colin Nish found space inside the box but his shot was blocked.  The rebound broke to John Baird who should have converted but fired over the bar.

A minute later Lassad, making his home debut, dribbled to the edge of the six yard box when he appeared to be tripped but again referee, Beaton, denied the claim.

Kris Commons then stepped up the pressure.  His cross was dummied by Lassad but Gary Hooper’s shot was saved.  Commons then played a diagonal ball through to Lassad who shot wide.

Charlie Mulgrew brought a good save from Douglas from a free kick on the edge of the D after Wanyama was brought down.  The Dundee keeper then topped that effort with a save from Forrest after a good cutback from Lassad, before saving again from the same player a minute later.

Lassad’s movement eventually brought a reward when Beaton pointed to the penalty spot after the former Deportivo striker had his legs clipped.  Scott Brown has been reliable from the spot this year but this effort didn’t get anywhere near the post, allowing Rab Douglas another opportunity to show what he can do.

Brown made amends a minute before the break when his forward pass was collected by Gary Hooper.  Hooper still had a lot to do but nutmeged his marker before firing home, from an angle, into the far corner.

The advantage was almost doubled a minute into the second half when Gary Irvine tried to chest the ball back to Rab Douglas but found the post instead, however, Dundee were two behind three minutes later.

Victor Wanyama shot low and hard from 26 yards, clipping the inside of the post before crossing the line.

Lassad almost opened his scoring account for Celtic with a good header but Rab Douglas was a match to the attempt again.  Tony Watt used his impressive strength to get a cross to Gary Hooper, who steadied before shooting against the upright.

  3. Looking ahead to the CL games coming up.

I now expect Celtic to get at least 1 point in Moscow. I’m also hoping Barca beat Benfica in Lisbon.

The following game would be Spartak v Benfica and a draw would be very handy and the expected result in this clash, given the defensive nature of Benfica at Celtic Park.

If we could battle our way to a point it would be marvellous but perhaps not good in the long run. I’ll settle for a spirited defeat as long as Barca have nothing to play for by the 4th game at Celtic Park.

  4. Good Night all

Today was a Huge Day in the history of our extended family

Today I witnessed kids as young as two years old participating with their parents, through to young adults, through to older members of the Celtic family supporting

Each and everyone of them full of joy and enthusiasm, supporting and talking to fellow fans in their own way and style, which was just incredible and sums up people

Sitting in the car outside the ground today 45 minutes after the game it was just great listening to my 69 year old dad and my wife talking about the generosity and kindness of the extended family as shown to them and fellow buckateers

A special note also to the Management of Dundee Fc who allowed one of the bucket army (mrs che) to join their coach at bottom of Kerrydale street

Broonie was Amazing once again. The work off the ball is unreal, no slacking in the slightest despite the man covering more ground than Xavi/Iniesta midweek (please statos check this out).

When Broonie plays the ball he is moving into positions all the time, I noticed static players today, not my style to name them but lets just say BROOOOONIIIIIEEEEEE is the Main Man and is helping to develop Victor so he can become twice the player of Broonie as long as he has the REAL desire to be the best he can be, I think he has it.

Captain Broonie is Monumental in my eyes now and is ahead of Wanyama as being the most important player on the pitch. I am chuffed to bits about this fact.

  23. See,like ‘petec’ was saying , wtf are we doing in this ConDemNation when we can spend BILLIONS foghting for the oil transnationals , destabilising countries to suit some anachronistic sense of ‘Empire’, and yet cost-cutting exercises deny sick children the treatment they need. When a remedy or a cure exists it is downright immoral to put a price on it. It should be held in the public good, pro bono.

I want every child to be given the life saving treatment they require.

Thank god we can do our bit to try and save one. Today I am immensely proud of this great Celtic Community and all its efforts for good in these harsh times.

And I am grateful to all those who have nothing to do with Celtic, but who nonetheless care to put their hands in their pockets for a wee bhoy.
