Celtic 2-1 Dunfermline

343

Dunfermline looked out of their depth in this SPL encounter for most of the game but a combination of sloppy finishing, last-ditch defending and Celtic’s still-unresolved problem from the penalty spot meant the game finished on a knife-edge.

Gary Hooper intercepted a cross-field pass from Dunfermline’s Paul Willis after 6 minutes, took a great first touch and fired a bullet shot into the bottom left corner of the goal to put Celtic ahead.  After 19 minutes more slack play from Dunfermline allowed Celtic to break with fluency.  Kris Commons, Anthony Stokes and Hooper combined to setup James Forrest to put Celtic in what looked like easy street.

Stokes almost finished from a tight angle after Forrest flashed the ball across the face of the goal, while Forrest failed to hit the target with a couple of shots from inside the box.

Commons, restored to the starting line-up, was clearly enjoying his free role, drifting from left to centre-midfield and twice found Anthony Stokes with outrageously precise 40-yard passes.  Celtic’s effectiveness suffered when Commons, who must surely have been injured, failed to appear after half time.

Celtic, perhaps having things too easy, dropped off the pace without the prodding of Commons and, with Dunfermline offering no apparent threat, looked like getting away with a 4-4-2 formation, with two traditional wingers.  Dunfermline had not read the script, however.

Andy Barrowman thundered a shot from the angle of the box into Fraser Forster’s bottom right corner with five minutes remaining – plus an eventual four minutes added time.  Any match report should record that Dunfermline never got close to adding a second goal in the remaining nine minutes, but this was also a period when Celtic lost all composure.  Fraser Forster was booked for timewasting and Adam Matthews will never take as long over three throw-ins all season.  The final whistle was greeted with enormous relief by the home support.

Milan and Dunfermline…same extremes of football as they are in fashion

Also if you mention Stan and Bobby in the same sentence it brings the same comparisson

  3. Hubris–Greek word for arrogance and overweening pride. It nearly did for Celtic tonight. Big Victor was magnificent. remember Essien for Lyon against Keane and Man U? We’ve got one. Paddy was ineffectual, and did not drive at Dunfermline as he does at other teams. He’s misplaced on the left wing. The role Ki does Paddy would do standing on his head. That is why a midfielder with nous and dig is needed. Scott Parker, anyone? He’s the difference with Spurs this season. 31 years of age, and a brain to ensure he can go on for another 3/4 seasons. I was always a fan of Big Jos–get him back and sell the rest of the dross. Charlie, Rogne, and Mastorivitch. Keep out anything in the SPL. Defence is about understanding and confidence. Put Forrest against Rangers through the middle and he’ll rip them a new one. Theirry Henry, anyone?

yes the shooting was the difference but i dont think brown is a good enough captain,

captains are meant to hold players back when the player is angry at the referee or an opposing player

i remember once sombody gave a real bad tackle to brown and then KAYAL was the one holding HIM back

i smiled when i seen this but it has gone past the joke for me

new captain needed either a CB or a CM

3 points tnite and hopefully another 3 on saturday

we will win the league this year

IF you are staying in Glasgow on the 10th December you should go to the Justice for the 96 concert. I have Like F your Brother, family from Family from foreign land and she is up that weekend for a night out in Gods town with her latest Bhoy…

Honestly what a night out this would be

“I want, nae demand, more work from a midfielder.

See Stan Petrov, Bobby Murdoch as my template.

Ki drifts in and out of a game and I thought he was spectral like tonight.

His (lack of) workrate puts too much pressure on the rest of the midfield and when possession is lost he never tracks back.”

You’ve listed a couple of contrasting characters there. Stan Petrov, an £8m captain of Bulgaria, was a beast for hard work when he was with us but he now plays a more sedate defensive game. Bobby Murdoch was too good to have to work too hard, more Prosinecki than Gattuso.

Ki is not a good tackler but I disagree about the tracking back. The main attribute he brings is his constant availability. He has an ingrained “pass and move” habit. Like Nakamura, he is always available to relieve pressure. I predict he will leave us for a big transfer fee as he gets no protection in SPL circles. Without needing Scott Brown’s showy energy, he made 3 second half goal-scoring passes that good forwards love.

So did you sing at all? Did you attempt to drown out the GB when they sang that song, a song that lasted 1 minute max from a full 90+ mins of singing.

If I didn’t know better I’d think you were a Hun.

Sadly I do know better. But with an attitude to fellow fans like yours I’d much prefer to see a few thousand GB’ers at the games, no matter there song sheet, than 60,000 no marks who have no interest in creating an atmosphere.

Mind you Booby had an easy job in the Lions.

All he had to do was find out where wee Jinky was.

And if Jimmy was hiding or conducting the choir in the jungle, he would have Wispy Wallace or Chalmers running a channel.

I was down in Middlesborough a few times late 80s and he was held in awe in that fair toon.

Bernie Slaven was starring for Boro in those days. Back to your Milan and Dunfermline comparison.

  11. Cultsbhoy, I think within 5 yrs every Celtic supporter will be there, the support the GB get from the Celtic family means that the atmosphere has already improved and don’t ye know….. Things will only get better!

And for them… Things can only get bitter :>)

a cuple of seasons ago, I waychef him go into a tackle hard as nails, thought, my god I think he’s got it.

For the nerest of that season it was open season on him, he now respects tha romans, would be the best way to put it, I suppose. Not willing to end his career in scotland, he’s chucked it, give Paddy his place, he wants it.

My template calls for a “Lion” with vision.

The passing skills of Ki with the work rate and attitude of a Petrov, Lennon or Brown.

Bobby Murdoch had both in abundance.

I don’t think we appreciated his contribution enough.

jinkyredstar, sure you mentioned me slashing my wrists, anyhoo, GB are not without faults, and if they continue singing about the huns when the huns are not the team we are playing then they can get tae

  17. Ki didn’t chuck it tonight. He managed to create 3 definite goal scoring chances. How many did Paddy make tonight?

And I love Paddy too but tonight was not his best game.

Anyway- I hear the weekend weather will be gales and snow.

Won’t it be great to keep our run going in the winter months where we often faltered in the past.

We won our 3rd SPL match in a row tonight equaling our best run (the opening 3 SPL fixtures). We have won 4 matches in a row. Consistency is retuning slowly. But we have a long race to run.

MB, just read you’re post, the GB are just trying to create a good atmosphere for the players and supporters, it’s entirely cool if you don’t buy into that, you’re no better or worse than any other Celt IMO.

  21. Stan Petrov is the mainstay of that Villa team, and Big Eck knows it. Roy Keane was a maurading midfielder with Notts Forest, box to box, but fergie knew where to play him. I watched Essien years ago playing for Lyon against Man U, and knew he was the new Keane. Chelsea are half the team without him. I’ve watched Wanyama now whenever he’s ben playing–he’s the real deal. Brown, Hooper< even Forrest can go. Wanyama must be given a pay rise with an extended contract. 19 years of age playing with the Swedish international centre half and he was the leader. Whoever scouted him should have a year's salary as a bonus.

  22. Good win tonight Bhoys. Should have been more having watched the game on Channel 67, but we will take it.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but did anyone see Lenny have a go at some section of the support at the final whistle? It was aimed at fans right to he right of the tunnel (facing the tunnel). Might have been a steward or someone, but my guess was that it was at a section of the support maybe for getting on to the players…

    Maybe some needed it.

Well done Bhoys. Happy with the 3 points but what a missed opportunity to cut the goal difference.

Should have been 6 or 7 by half time. We need to be ruthless, get the ball in the net & demolish these teams.

Anyway another 3 points & continued pressure on the filth so again well done. Bring on St Mirren.

Maybe some people thought it was directed at the players, as far as I could see it wasn’t. great 3 points…stay focused.
