Celtic 5-0 Hearts

366

It was the Gary Hooper show as a five goal performance by Scottish football’s top scorer this season lit up a wet and windy Celtic Park on trophy day.  Two poachers’ goals inside the opening 8 minutes had the capacity crowd celebrating.  The opener came after Hearts’ keeper Jamie MacDonald saved a Kris Commons shot but Hooper was on hand to knock home the rebound.

The crowd had only just settled from that goal when Georgios Samaras broke down the left channel and squared a pass for Hooper to knock into the empty net.

Celtic were awarded a penalty six minutes before the break when Joe Ledley had his ankle clipped inside the box.  Gary Hooper, not a prodigious scorer from the spot, smashed the ball straight down the middle and into the net.

David Templeton was unable to hit the target midway through the second half with what turned out to be Hearts only attempt at goal all game.

Hearts conceded cheaply on 66 minutes when Kris Commons found the unmarked Hooper inside the box who gratefully converted for his fourth.

By now it was all about whether we would see Hooper score a fifth, a feat most of us had never witnessed by a Celtic player before.  He duly obliged two minutes from time when he rounded the exposed MacDonald and slotted the ball home before the late-arriving surge of Hearts defenders.

Udinese still winning and looking good for the Champions league qualifiers. Smashing supporters but could do with the cash to upgrade that stadium!!

  2. Agent Craig green and whyte,

    I remember Petric saga too.

I remember TB also wanting to sign Neil McCann and Alan McLaren. Dariusz Adamczuk was also supposed to be signing for Celtic. Guess where they all went?

I distinctly recall Davie Provan on radio saying Rangers had made a last minue bid for Phil O’Donnell but the player woud not hear of it.

23rd May is now like a big game or massive night out you have circled in your calendar. There is nothing that would shock me though.

Great day in Paradise today, absolutely magic, couldn’t have written the script any better, Man City and the EPL, think about this before anyone has any good thoughts for them, the Abu Dabi Arabs have spent £938 million since 2009,

Net £500 odd million on Citeh when you take away sales and turnover in 3 seasons, there will be no good feelings from me, they represent everything that is rotten with modern football in the UK, they are closely followed by Manure (hahahaha GIRFUY) and Chelski…………scum.

The EPL is a poisoned chalice, i hope we never end up there.

Hail Hail Neil and the Bhoys, i hope they have a great night!

I think you are correct. I believe a 1-1 draw at Love street (where we equalised seconds after their goal) was followed by a 4-4 draw at Celtic Park (we were down 3-1) then we won the second replay 5-2 with Neil Mochan scoring all five. I was at all three games but am giving these “facts” from memory so check it up if you want to be sure.

Now that RFCiA have been saved (Whew! what a relief that is!!!), does that mean Motherwell won’t get to play their Champions League games at Ibrokes next year then?

Re Murray allegedly phone hacking – Gordan Petric.

Heard every time we bid, they came in with an extra £100k.

The story I heard goes that Tommy Burns asked for Petric and told Fergus he was worth £800k.

Rangers bid £900k, £1.1m, £1.3m and £1.5m in response to our bids.

When TB asked for £1.6m, Fergus said to him, “Let it go Tommy. You’re asking for twice what you said he was worth. Rangers can have him.”

I wonder if phone hacking is how Murray knew what we were bidding?

  10. Hi Guys, having missed the Killie 6-0 game I thoroughly enjoyed seeing us “winning” the SPL today.

But how frustrating that we’ve gubbed the teams that cost us the Treble 11-0!!

BTW there are 30 mins of celebrations on celticfc.net.

Also, mobiles were out in ’89. They were the size and weight of a brick and you could dig a trench with the “aerial.

Rayo Vallecano just scored, famous ex-Rangers EBT target Raúl Tamudo just scored against Granada. Villarreal are the team who will pay the price. Villarreal are down. The Rayo game all over. Granada lost to Rayo but stay up.

  14. Celtic_First on

Rayo were going down until the Tamudo goal. It came right at the death.

Villarreal have been in the top division for 12 years, mostly punching right above their weight for a team from such a small city.

    I really feel for them.

  15. Martin42…

    Hope you are well.

    Saint Stivs…

    11-0 v Dundee?

Apparently William Ferguson scored 5 that day (including 4 penalties!) another one for the list!

Other scorers were Meechan, Doyle, Battles (2) Blessington.

The referee was never seen again!

Margaret McGill wherever you may be,

Last night I posted a small tribute to Francis Hughes on his anniversary and you said I had cheapened his memory by posting it on this blog.I take absolute gross exception to that comment and make no apology whatsoever to saluting an Irish hero.Far from being kept out of the picture, this is exactly the sort of place where these people should be remembered. You stated that a blog is not a place for these heroes. No,this is where they will be remembered.Always.

Potential buyer Green is one of a few ” venture capitalists” of the clan. The clue here is the second word of that description. Capital, which there is none in SPL to make profit. Therefore assets to sell are the focus……mmm?

  21. johann murdoch on

Green hasn’t bought anything ..preferred bidder at the moment ..subject to due diligence …then. Kaboom !
