Celtic 5-0 St Mirren

1271

Celtic swept St Mirren aside this afternoon as a hat-trick from Gary Hooper and goals from Georgios Samaras and Dylan McGeough

Celtic came roaring out of the traps and blew St Mirren away this afternoon.  Georgios Samaras got the show underway on 4 minutes when he collected the ball after Marc McAusland failed to make a clean connection on the ball.  Samaras still had a lot to do and carried the ball into the box.  With defenders closing in from all around the Greek striker placed his shot instead of going for power.  St Mirren keeper, Craig Samson got a hand to the shot but the ball spun slowly towards goal and settled 8” over the line.

Four minutes later, a clearly confident Samaras drove into the St Mirren penalty box before cutting the ball left for Anthony Stokes, who’s fired cross was turned over the line from 3 yards by Gary Hooper.

Samaras was running the show but was hampered by a knock to the ankle which he took a few moments to recover from.  This coincided with St Mirren’s best period of play as the visitors gained more possession and territorial advantage in the period before half time.

Celtic started the second half just as brightly as they did the first as Hooper and Kayal could both have added to the score, however, the third would arrive 8 minutes into the second half.  Victor Wanyama played an excellent forward pass to Stokes who hit the goal line before cutting back for Gary Hooper.  Hooper collected with his back to goal but spun and shot in a sweeping move that left Samson with no chance.

Hooper completed his hat-trick on 57 minutes when he tried to play a one-two with Stokes but the ball was returned by a defender, allowing him to chip the on-rushing Samson.

18-year-old Dylan McGeough made his first impact as a Celtic player minutes after replacing James Forrest when he collected the ball 10 yards in front of his own box, ran 70 yards into the St Mirren box, before creating space and despatching Celtic’s fifth goal.  An unforgettable moment for the young player.

It’s very exciting to know we have capable men like Wanyama,Kayal,Ledley,Izzy when fit,Commons and Broon for a battle.

That’s some spine when you consider the form of Stokes too lately.

Although throw into the mix Mathews,Mulgrew,Forrest,Hooper,Ki getting back to his old self and the enigmatic workhorse that’s Samaras with what looks a frightening prospect in Dylan you have to seriously fancy us to win this league now.

We should be hoping to keep players like these for 5 years or so, then sell them on as is usually the time for a player to move.

We’ll get nowhere if we keep punting our best players on….obvious I know, but surely the plan is to take on young players with potential cheap (or free) and make players of them that can blend into what is shaping up to be an exciting squad.

I think as long as there’s a place for Brick67 in the team, he’ll be going nowhere.

You may well be correct there but surely the much maligned scouting organisation should be applauded for finding the guy ahead of the mega rich “big” clubs.

Why can’t these so called “big” clubs pick up players such as Victor before the player attracts a huge transfer fee?

  6. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Dolph. Fella I agree with you on big Victor 100% who ever recommended him to Celtic deserves a real pat on the back a Million pounds for him was an absolute steal.

Setting free the Bears. if his brother is better he must be sme player our record transfer is I believe 9 Million we could get more for Victor he is the real deal. H.H.

Dan takes the average up big time and it has to be said he is looking more like the player from last season and that is despite the constant attacks on him from the bigots masquerading as journos in this country.

I enjoyed the game today. the football from both sides was excellent.

Some of our players seemed to be enjoying themselves out there in the rain, including Sammi and Ledley, although Victor Wanyama, Wan-yama Wan-yama Oh Oh gave a really mature performance. Impressed.

Lovely moment for Dylan McGeouch and his folks.

Must say though, young McGowan was terrific for St Mirren today. I’ll watch his progress with interest, and won’t be at all surprised if we see him back at Celtic Park in a year or two.

Top class performance today no failures from back to front and subs as well. Thought Stokesy was an unsung hero today no goals but some great link play and work tirelessly off the ball. Wednesday night should see how this young Hoops side is progressing this season. The corner I think has most definately been turned with more players to come back from injury and maybe a couple more signings as well to come in on January, we will see what watties fat tea boays team are made of then?

(note to sad sally= a club tie and brown brogues does not a manager make) Still think thems will win tomorrrow but the pressure is building we have got our momentum back and they have no scope to replace injuries to key players like the strange boy with the white hair and bad balance. There will not be may hunfiltraitors on tonight I don`t suppose but if there is stick yer heids oot the windae and listen, that noise you hear is the THUNDER.

    Come you Bhoys in Green.

  10. Now. Let’s be serious.

Enjoyed today’s performance. Delighted to see big Sammy get his goal and play so well. If only consistency was his forte.

Hooper was super dooper although his first touch is still suspect.

Stokes put in a shift and a half and the rest were not far behind.

Even Glenda had a good game.

We played well but still room for improvement. Which is a good thing.

Well done young McGeoch. Outstanding goal son.

Big SHOUT out to the GB again. They even manage to get the Main Stand singing Paddy McCourts Fenian Army.

MWD happy but still happier knowing I can see room for improvement.

Never too old I am your age and sit in section114 and manage a huddle now and again, the Green Brigade and the team were great today with Victor and Dylan the future is green and white.

I’m a fan of big Dan. The goatee is a disguise to confuse the none-too-bright LL.

Sammy put in his best bearded performance in some time. Now I know why he wears it…used to think the beard was jinxing him, but it is clearly behind the sublime genius that struggles to get seen in the thorny stage of the SP Hell.

How many times does Neil Lennon have to say how important it is for us, all of us, to get behind our players and support our team. How many times? Now I am not one who would ever advocate an ourselves alone policy, (performances like today’s will draw in neutrals) but the fact is nobody else will do it for us. Get behind the Manager, even if he was not your first choice) get behind the players when they are struggling and celebrate the news that we are moving once again in the right direction. Celebrate the news? There is a song in there somewhere. Anybody know who wrote it?

Aye get Broon,Izzy,Mulgrew n Commons all fit for a lengthy run whilst keeping who’s regular at the moment fit (surely we must be due that) and we’ll hammer this league even as things stand now.

  15. Well done Neil Lennon and the team of Celtic footballers!

This was a great performance of team effort and individual brilliance : three of four players could have been man of the match.

The Green Brighade let no one down and the Celtic end deserved all the boos coming their way from the bhoys in green and white.

    We can do better!

  18. Excellent performance today. Great football and clinical finishing.

It was great to see sammi running at the defence, he is unplayable when he is in the mood.

I hope I am not getting carried away but there seems to be a hunger and drive in the team at the moment. This is similar to the run we had after Christmas last season.

  19. Great game and result today. Everyone was excellent. Loovens looked like a £2.5m CB.

Big Vic is the real deal. He is going to be a megastar. Sammi was unplayable at times, Hooper hat trick, Kayal super, Joe Ledley immense and young Dylan, ( my only grandson’s name and alltime Fav rock star) what a debut, what a goal.

  20. A fantastic performance today. Well done to all the Bhoys.

Cannot believe the people posting earlier wanting to sell Ki

That boy is the best footballer in Scotland bar no one and we have people wanting to sell him?? What does that say about our club?

Ki is young and will make errors. He will develop physically, he is already over 6th

There are more than enough average players at Celtic Park without us selling what quality we have.

  21. Dan makes a, really minor,mistake.

Annoying guy in front of me shouts at Dan, “Away ya baldy-heided ba”^&*d!”

I made some sort of “urbane” comment which was totally ignored.

Two minutes later when the big guy made a brilliant interception, I quipped, loudly, “Well done ya baldy-heided ba”%*^d”.

Got a good laugh from all around.

    What a funster!

  22. just spoke to my good friend from derry who was at the game today and commented on how he told me to keep the faith with Lenny when my faith was beginning to waver a few weeks back!!!!

    keep it going Bhoys

next weekend myself and my good buddy from navan are going to tannadice for what will be only our 3rd game this season.

As the economic situation has been so crap here in Ireland lately, we have to really pick out a handful of games per season at the minute and after todays result and performance I am like a kid on christmas eve waiting for next sunday!!!!!!

I dont want to be negative after such a good result but we should enjoy watching big Victor when we can.If this young man continues to play as well as he has been doing he will be purchased for big big money from on of the European giants the young man is that good.H.H.

couldnt agree more mate, and the performances of young adam Matthews will be attracting the epl, but im sitting here with the biggest smile on my face – today we got our Celtic back
