Celtic 5-0 St Mirren

Celtic swept St Mirren aside this afternoon as a hat-trick from Gary Hooper and goals from Georgios Samaras and Dylan McGeough

Celtic came roaring out of the traps and blew St Mirren away this afternoon.  Georgios Samaras got the show underway on 4 minutes when he collected the ball after Marc McAusland failed to make a clean connection on the ball.  Samaras still had a lot to do and carried the ball into the box.  With defenders closing in from all around the Greek striker placed his shot instead of going for power.  St Mirren keeper, Craig Samson got a hand to the shot but the ball spun slowly towards goal and settled 8” over the line.

Four minutes later, a clearly confident Samaras drove into the St Mirren penalty box before cutting the ball left for Anthony Stokes, who’s fired cross was turned over the line from 3 yards by Gary Hooper.

Samaras was running the show but was hampered by a knock to the ankle which he took a few moments to recover from.  This coincided with St Mirren’s best period of play as the visitors gained more possession and territorial advantage in the period before half time.

Celtic started the second half just as brightly as they did the first as Hooper and Kayal could both have added to the score, however, the third would arrive 8 minutes into the second half.  Victor Wanyama played an excellent forward pass to Stokes who hit the goal line before cutting back for Gary Hooper.  Hooper collected with his back to goal but spun and shot in a sweeping move that left Samson with no chance.

Hooper completed his hat-trick on 57 minutes when he tried to play a one-two with Stokes but the ball was returned by a defender, allowing him to chip the on-rushing Samson.

18-year-old Dylan McGeough made his first impact as a Celtic player minutes after replacing James Forrest when he collected the ball 10 yards in front of his own box, ran 70 yards into the St Mirren box, before creating space and despatching Celtic’s fifth goal.  An unforgettable moment for the young player.

  1. Anybody know what the crowd was today. At half-time, my mate, who is great at this sort of thing, estimated there was about 48,000. If that is true, it is amazing, considering the time of year and the dreadful weather.

  2. The Atlético keeper knows he is in for an absolutley hellish shift on Wednesday and thought he better get off and get some rest.

Marca are reporting that he came off shaking and muttering something about Hoops or Hooper.

Course you weren’t out of order.

You encouraged some great tunes last night mind.

Not ones old Pablophanque would have been posting :o)

God Bless Pablo, wherever you are mate.

  4. Can I make an observation, now admittedly I cannot comment on how good a victory that was for you today. But Dunfermline then St. Mirren at Parkhead is hardly reasons to go overboard.

Your manager tends to let his mouth run away with itself, not like him I know, this week it is

“Samaras,he set the tone for the game.

“He got his goal, which we’ve been waiting on a long time. His play was fantastic. He is a talent and all we are asking for is consistency.

“He has shown everyone today what he is capable of when he is in full flow. The rest took a leaf from his book.”

“It was a great team performance, from my goalkeeper right through to my third substitute coming on – magnificent goals, work ethic, passing, attacking play and very good defensively.

“I’m delighted, absolutely thrilled with the players today.”

    So different from

‘I am just sick to the back teeth with it’ or ‘I keep telling them but they just won’t listen’ or ‘ ask them questions after the game and I get no reply’ or ‘There are three players I would consider are exempt from criticism. But there are others who are really lagging, the Celtic manager points. I would like to change it but I can’t. And until they start showing consistency, an urgency, a drive and a will to win, it is going to be difficult for me to get results”.

    Will he ever learn moderation.

I’ll make a prediction, it will happen again, we have all seen this movie, and Neil will revert to type.

Super jealous of all you fholk lucky enough to have been at the game today.

The performance was sublime with better than pass marks throughout the team.

Lenny and his team seem to have turned the corner, they now need to maintain consistency and develop the capacity to win ugly.

Special mention for the centre-backs; oft criticised (by me as well as many others) both players acquitted themselves with aplomb today.

    Game on…

    Brilliant today!

Wanyama turning out to be a tremendous player.

A confident Super Hooper is unplayable!

As for McGeough… The Parkhead Messi!

  10. Can’t understand why good folk on here still moan about what’s said in phone-ins or printed in papers. We are not the target audience, and when they let us join in they use this to legitimise their lies. Don’t participate, listen, buy. Leave them to polish the turd by themselves.

Agree with MWD to a point about Hoopers first touch, but think this season it’s due to lack of confidence. When your confident it’s ten times easier. His first touch for the fourth was Henke-esque. Really pleased for young Dylan, he won’t do that every week, and we shouldn’t expect him to.

On my way out for a nice wee meal (and a few celebratory swallies) wi’ the missus. Have a great Saturday night y’all.

  11. A great footballing performance

on a horrible wet and windy afternoon.

    Superb performances all round

    with special mention to Mathews,Waynyama,

Super Hooper, Sammaras and McGeoch for his wonder goal.

  12. anyways, i know i should keep up on such things, but been out the loop a little, can anyone let me know who the huns have got in Europe this week ?

of course, that is too much for your ilk to handle

so, your lot will revert to type …there is nothing more certain ..

    except the inevitability of taxes

now there’s a thought or two for you to conjure with

  14. Just watched Dylan’s goal for the first time.

That bhoy’s got talent and cajones.Feeling a whole lot better at the moment.

Keep it up until the chill comes calling on December 28th,then stick it to them.

It’s far from over and personally i am most definitely keeping the faith.

    FOREVERANDEVER!!!

  15. I think I have a valid point as shown.

    The Definition of HYPERBOLE

extravagant exaggeration (as “mile-high ice-cream cones”)

Now if he uses the above in his next press conference, I will have proved my point.

    Nuff said.

Now for a bit of Tele and the Killing 2, that Sarah Lund, those jerseys.

couldnt agree more mate, if they were to drop any points at killie tomorrow (cant see it, rangers -1 at 5/4 is a fantastic bet) – then the campaign will start again

  17. Yup.

Death and taxes. The two absolutes in life, unless your an Orc then it’s death by taxes!!!

I think we are a less effective team with Ki in the side.

He slows the play down and offers very little threat to opposition.

Today the midfield looked better balanced and more potent.

We have plenty of midfielders but struggle with the balance at times.

When Ki plays his sideways and backwards passing allow the opposition time to set defensively leaving our hopeful punt from the wings as our only option.

I would be happy for us to cash in on him as long as we use the money raised to strengthen the team.

He has undoubted skill but is not suited to spl.

  19. Just in,,, Victor was immense ,that bhoy is for his age is head and shoulders

  21. TET,

During our dip, the usual hunfiltrators were so pleasant in their advice about where our Club has been going wrong. When the shoe’s on the other foot, the bitterness behind the mask starts to seep through.

    All so predictable.

Just makes days like this even better, as it reminds us that we’re no bitter and twisted like them :))

It’s good to see an Irish Catholic do so well at Celtic Park, not because race or religion should matter, but because it’s a GIRUY to the bitter bigots that are the scourge of this country. Their Up n Under rugby tactics will be no match for Brick67 in December.

    I’d estimate about 30,000.

    A good crowd , though.

    Orc?

What he says is fair comment whatever you feel about it.

I would prefer if we engaged these people in a reasonable way , instead of resorting to puerile raspberries.

Funny that. The European Court of Human rights is about the only court they’ve not been in.

BTW their hatred of Lennon is based on bigotry…nothing short of anti-Catholic/Irish prejudice. Fortunately for them they live in Scotland. A country where such sentiments are provided for by law.
