Celtic 5-0 St Mirren

1271

Celtic swept St Mirren aside this afternoon as a hat-trick from Gary Hooper and goals from Georgios Samaras and Dylan McGeough

Celtic came roaring out of the traps and blew St Mirren away this afternoon.  Georgios Samaras got the show underway on 4 minutes when he collected the ball after Marc McAusland failed to make a clean connection on the ball.  Samaras still had a lot to do and carried the ball into the box.  With defenders closing in from all around the Greek striker placed his shot instead of going for power.  St Mirren keeper, Craig Samson got a hand to the shot but the ball spun slowly towards goal and settled 8” over the line.

Four minutes later, a clearly confident Samaras drove into the St Mirren penalty box before cutting the ball left for Anthony Stokes, who’s fired cross was turned over the line from 3 yards by Gary Hooper.

Samaras was running the show but was hampered by a knock to the ankle which he took a few moments to recover from.  This coincided with St Mirren’s best period of play as the visitors gained more possession and territorial advantage in the period before half time.

Celtic started the second half just as brightly as they did the first as Hooper and Kayal could both have added to the score, however, the third would arrive 8 minutes into the second half.  Victor Wanyama played an excellent forward pass to Stokes who hit the goal line before cutting back for Gary Hooper.  Hooper collected with his back to goal but spun and shot in a sweeping move that left Samson with no chance.

Hooper completed his hat-trick on 57 minutes when he tried to play a one-two with Stokes but the ball was returned by a defender, allowing him to chip the on-rushing Samson.

18-year-old Dylan McGeough made his first impact as a Celtic player minutes after replacing James Forrest when he collected the ball 10 yards in front of his own box, ran 70 yards into the St Mirren box, before creating space and despatching Celtic’s fifth goal.  An unforgettable moment for the young player.

Apparently Hamburg reserves need a run out on Wednesday and their fans ( The only Germans who love the butchers apron) need an easy win, Craigy has booked the bus for them to go on Sunday night( Hamburg and Alouko are sharing the costs).

  2. Well, fair comment if you ignore the , “Neil will revert to type”, comment.

Did not see the usual OTT police presence today.

  4. With Loovens back in along side Dan and the improving Samaras we had three experienced players out there today but we are a very young side. Matthews and Wanayama now beginning to settle into the team.

When No.46 went up for No. 49 I joked with my bhoys the new McGeady but Aiden didn’t annouce himself as well as that. Maybe I’ve under estimated McGeough!

  5. My friends in Celtic-

Where do we start, well before I do, a question for truth….. I remember reading last season that Rangers had the best young prospect in Scottish football, ready to burst through to the first team before his foot injury prevented this. So when do we see this young player- DYLAN McGEOUGH, I believe is his name????

As for today, a 5 star performance, fair play to St Mirren for not trying to kick our players off the park, I can see how you were good enough to get a point at Ibrox. Well done to Danny Lennon’s boys.

Our bhoys were just magnificent- confident handling from FF, 2 full backs happy to bomb on and get back, a very solid pairing at CB (big Glen in particular- take a bow), Dan has been superb ever since he coached young Marcus in the Rennes game.

In the middle, Jamesy was quiet, Kayal buzzing all over the park, Sammi was in unplayable mode in the first half and what about Victor? What a gem we have unearthed, the enforcer we have been missing in years.

Up front- welcome back Hoops and Stokesy for once had a supporting role, after holding things together so well in the last month.

Then we had young Dylan- as natural a footballer as I have seen in years- what a goal, what poise and maturity he showed. Paddy showing some flashes of brilliance. Mo Bangura…. hmm not sure, would have preferred to have seen Andre make his debut.

Over to you Ally, you can feel our breath down the back of your neck. Let’s see what your team are made of.

  6. Eddie Smith has an impending court case with Celtic fans. Police brutality is the term being used…

    agree up to a point

buddies set up to play in a way that allowed our team to find space easily

when other teams come to CP we need a slightly different approach

ki gives us another option to build play more slowly -i am biased of course because i think he is the best footballer at CP

sadly, he will be sold for a few bucks ..tho’ i don’t think he will be missed by many and the evidence will be we will still win domestic leagues and cups

europe might be a different story ..that is where I prefer to judge a player’s true value

Am I being ultra picky about the MIB?

  14. Great performance and result in atrocious weather condtions.

Big well done to all the fans that turned out also.

Plaudits to St Mirren too for trying to make a game of it despite the gulf in class.

At half time I posted that I thought the ref was fairly decent, despite fearing the worst before the game. At the end of the match, I had completely changed my mind.

Among some bizarre decisions, he missed 3 hand balls, and managed to book two Celts despite the team making less than 10 fouls in the game.

Thankfully we were being clinical up front and had taken him out of the equation.

Don’t expect Killie to do much tomorrow, but you never know…

I was delighted to see that Danny Lennon didn’t send his team out to kick us off the park today, it made the hun with the whistle’s job easier.

Huns are huns, they can’t change, they live to hate.

  16. Once again a superb atmosphere in our magnificent stadium.

It was an absolute joy to be there today.

i mean how do you stop yourself ?

  18. stflannansbg

Nope, they were a string of ridiculous decisions. About 3-4 handballs 2nd half, odd behaviour from the assistant (was it Gilmour again?). Usual stuff from them, and had it been a tighter game they’d have done us for sure. Tomorrow will see even more honest mistakes.

  19. TET @ 20:06

Kenny Shiel’s team will get booted off the pitch tomorrow and booked for diving. Tomorrow will be a masterclass in hunnery from the MIBs and Moisty’s talentless 11. Worth doubling the bets on red card and penalty in favour of you know who.

    Getting there, Neil……

I was fortunate enough to be sitting directly behind a wee bhoy of 6, who’s dad had brought him to his first game…….he had a’ball’ (excuse the pun)…he loved every minute of it and was truly fascinated by the GB…….wouldn’t like to be his dad if he has to tell him he can’t come to the next game…..!!!!……

I have a good feeling about tomorrow’s result.would you be giving it 100% if you knew there was a chance of being sold in January, with your new team likely to actually pay your NI contributions….LOL………I wouldn’t want to get injured..????….the snowball is gathering momentum now……a kin feel it in ma watter…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been saying for a while that Ki and Kayal are not a good partnership and someone posted that our win percentage is only 62% With this pairing.

Ki has good pss completion stats but he only makes the easy sideways and backwards types.

He has excellent shooting but is rarely in position to do so which is due to his penchant for staying around centre circle.

When he and Kayal play both tend to be deep which leaves us no central threat allowing opponents to shuffle back and concentrate on defending hopeful punts from wide.

Our strikers have been criticised this season but the service has been slow and poor leaving them outmanned to often.

  24. Folks,

My brother (who lives in London) surprised his 6 year old first born at 0500 this morning by waking him from his sleep to tell him he was going on a big aeroplane up to Glasgow to see the Celtic.

My sister in law video’d the surprise on her iphone.

    Absolutely magic.

The wee lad didnt know where he was at the start, the eyes were hanging from his head as he looked up trying to work out what was going on as his daddy was telling him.

All of a sudden there must have been a spark because he jumped up (its all whispering because his baby sister is in the next room) and jumped into his arms whispering “thank you daddy, thank you daddy, thank you so much, thank you, yes yes yes yes”

(iphone videos only go on for a minute so thats all I saw)

    Absolute magic.

So I wanna send out a special thanks to the Green Brigade because thanks to them and Celtic his dream day was perfect, rain or no rain.

When I phoned the wee lad after the game all he kept saying was ‘the whole ground did the huddle and I was in it’

Thats what its all about folks

Good evening amigo – good luck with Movember :-)

  27. Just caught up. Missed the game as I had to drive the missus to Killarney.

    Timing eh?

What a result. What a result for Neil and the Bhoys. Delighted.

Great for the team, great for US – a much needed bit of confidence.

Lets see how the ugly mob cope with a tiny wee bit of pressure.

I wonder if the fat plamph will be over-imbibing more than usual tonight.

It’s good to be a Tim.

  28. Ernie,

    Thanks for the info.

I feel I have to apologise to your good self. I have stupidly stuck up for the cretins in government who are pushing through nothing short of racist legislation. You were right.

Hopefully there will be a different party legislating independence in the future but somehow I doubt it.
