CELTIC’S potential move for Burnley defender Dara O’Shea will be forced onto the back burner.
Brendan Rodgers has been linked with Republic of Ireland international who was relegated with the Turf Moor club just a year after joining in a £7million switch from West Brom, according to a report in the Daily Record.
The champions have made an approach for the 25-year-old 28 times-capped back-four operator, but face a delay until the Championship side appoint a replacement for head coach Vincent Kompany who quit for Bayern Munich at the end of a torrid campaign.
LOOKING DOWN…Gustaf Lagerbielke tastes defeat at Celtic for the first time in the League Cup exit at Rugby Park in August.
Rodgers knows he will have to at least match the fee Burnley paid for O’Shea to persuade the club to release the centre-back who played 33 Premier League games last term and netted three goals, one in a 3-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.
The Hoops gaffer may look to offload £3million Gustaf Lagerbielke as part of any possible deal.
The 24-year-old Swede, who joined from Elfsborg last summer, made only 10 appearances in his debut season.
Lagerbielke, under contract until June 2028, almost joined Serie A outfit Lecce on loan in January, but Rodgers vetoed the move after a spate on injuries in his central defence.
