Celtic: a morality tale

422

Just when you thought it was safe to have hope for the remainder of Celtic’s season, 13 of the squad, as well as Neil Lennon and John Kennedy have to isolate.  This is in addition to Christopher Jullien, who tested positive over the weekend.

This has been a failure by design.  Celtic did what was permitted, not what was wise.  We have been out-thought and out-planned all season, on and off the field.  The latest crisis happened because a player with a long-term injury travelled for warm weather training.  Where to being?  From a position of weakness, we needed to not put a foot wrong during the second half of the season, instead, we have become a morality tale for others to learn from.

If you like watching Celtic with overwhelming odds to fight against, you should enjoy the games ahead.

Best wishes to Christopher Jullien for a complete recovery.

  1. Presumably, a decision was made within CFC to continue with the Dubai trip.

That was possibly the worst management decision made this season: possibly for several seasons.

    So wrong on many levels.

The buck stops with the CEO.

Not sure how bookies can price it properly without knowledge of who is out… Saw a list but haven’t a clue if it’s real..

    …………….

My Online Bookie..BET365…have taken the game OUT of their list.

Bet365 are either RE calculating the ODDS…or maybe they know something that we dont..?

My guess is that Bet365 are waiting to see what Celtic players are available and then put up a re calculated Odds ?

Donald Trump and Peter Lawwell to be BOTH to be ” IMPEACHED”….NOT Fit for office ?

Aye okay, I made the last bit up.

    LOL

I cannot “guess” as to why there was no comment about the Dubai trip, on the blogs or in the papers before the poolside pics surfaced, but I am not convinced by the “fear of getting shot down” explanation.

Posters are braver than that and most can cope with a bit of criticism. Anyway, if 90% of people thought that way back then, 0% of then chose to actually express their outrage, inform ttheir fellow fans, or warn the club.

On the back of a loss to Rangers, i doubt anyone was worried about being seen as harsh on the Board; it is , after all, a very popular viewpoint amongst the support.

  4. Notthebus

if that list is correct, we got off lightly; 1 injured, one suspended and the others usually on the bench or nowhere near the bench. I assume we can call up a youth keeper for the bench?

3-0 to the Bhad Bhoys tonight

Remember the team of treble treble winners driving up to the stadium?

Aye! From the top of the world down to the pits is a long way but we’ve managed to do it in an exceedingly quick time…

    Re betting on tonight’s game

The match had been priced up days ago as usual.

Some sites took it down from lists last night.

It’s back up on some lists with revised prices given the highly unusual circumstances.

Betting firms have people watch news programmes.

If one of the team has 13 players unavailable then clearly their chances of winning are adversely affected.

The betting firms then revise the prices offered for each of the potential outcomes either to pre-empt or as a reaction to their trading on the game.

They only know something you don’t if you choose not to inform yourself.

  10. The time for change was the summer of 2018.

The cracks were appearing and we started to go backwards.

However too many were SPL pot hunters for whom “Hame ‘ll dae me”.

PL had a shiny suit and an interrnet boosterclub.

All astroturf but he had an agenda and how he has pushed it.

And now we reap what we didn’t weed.

The only question now is whether we are Carthage or Nokia CSC.

My mopney is on Carthage — things are that bad.

The “Generation of Domination” has not turned out too well — has it?

So P67 you have to take your share of the blame along with all the happy clappers.

We had a chance of moving to the next level with the appointment of BR.

Funny how it can now be seen as the start of the current implosion.

A house divided will fall — a lesson we have never learned.

DD has to get involved or take a back seat.

PL has to go — for a second rate property bean counter he has been well rewarded.

For a second rate property bean counter he has done more damage than I could ever have imagined.

NL and the coaching staff have to go — just not up to it.

SB has to go — three years too late — he cannot hang around any longer.

BR was very generous to him after his kebab antics and he needs a change of scenery.

The squad needs halved in two to get rid of the dreamers / the schemers / the agent friendly purchases.

I fear that we are in a perfect storm and it will be a long hard way back.

This is what happens when too many think that the CL is not worth the effort.

If second best becomes good enough it soon becomes third and then fourth best.

An avoidable shambles — if you thought PL was the answer then you have to take your share of the blame.

  12. I still don’t get why the trip to Dubai is being cited as a contributor to the Covid outbreak. Dubai had a lower rate of infection when we flew out than the UK (or Scotland).

Also, there is no evidence whether Julienne caught the virus before we left or whilst away (if he was even there).

Sure – there is no good reason why we went ahead with the trip, other than “it worked last year so good thing to do again”. But as people have said, that’s not in the spirit of the Elite Sports exemption.

Villa and Derby have had major outbreaks without going to Dubai

    Gene – very fair point.

Dubai not necessarily at the heart of the real matter.

Exposure could also have happened if they’d remained here.

    But poor planning nonetheless …..

…. In Covid-19 times, as soon as player goes on long term injury list he can’t contribute to short term outcomes.

So isolate him from squad immediately.

    Not rocket science unfortunately.

If the list of affected players is correct, it isn’t complete. In addition to Jullien, 13 players are required to isolate, and only 12 are noted.

I am struggling to understand how the entire first team and management are not all forced into isolation, assuming they all sat on the same tin in the sky for 4-5 hours on way back?

I still don’t get why the trip to Dubai is being cited as a contributor to the Covid outbreak. Dubai had a lower rate of infection when we flew out than the UK (or Scotland).

    ===============

Main reason likely would be the Test & Protect impact – players were in an enclosed space (on a flight) – possibly at less than recommended spacing and for longer than an acceptable time – i.e., less than two meters distant for more than 15 minutes cummulatively over a 24 hour period.

Additional issue is increasing evidence of aerosol spread, plus incidence of new variation of the virus.

That wouldn’t be the case in Lennoxtown.

Travelling in a plane increased the risk to a higher level than would otherwise have been the case. It was certainly not essential.

I personally thought it was a bad idea to go. Not only because of the COVID reason but also, training or not, I seen it as an undeserved AND unnecessary reward. Had we been 3 or 4 points behind then there’s half an excuse to go. The fact we were/are so far behind, AND with the COVID situation, had it been my decision whether to go or not I would have said NO
