BENJAMIN NYGREN has been sent home early after being struck by a sickness bug while on international duty with Sweden.
The Celtic midfielder has been told to go into isolation after missing his country’s 1-1 Nations League draw in Bosnia last night.
Coincidentally, former Hoops defender Gustav Lagerbielke is among three other players who have been sidelined with the same illness.
There is no prospect of the quartet recovering in time for the Swedes’ final game in the competition against Romania in Bucharest on Monday, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.
A BIG HAND…Benjamin Nygren celebrates his winner against Dundee in this season’s Premiership opener at Parkhead on August 3.
Nygren got off to a scoring start in the tournament when he netted in his 17th appearance at senior international level in the 3-1 opening home triumph over Poland.
Now the prolific middle-of-the-park performer is hoping to overcome the bug in time to line up against Motherwell at Fir Park when the Premiership restarts a week tomorrow.
Nygren had a whirlwind start to the season with the only goal of the game in the victory over Dundee at Parkhead on August 3 and followed up with strikes in successive wins over Kilmarnock (5-1), Dundee United (4-0) and LASK (3-0).
He collected his fifth of the campaign in the 3-0 home victory over Aberdeen a month ago.
Sebastian Tounekti is also making an early return to Glasgow, but there is no such concerns over the Tunisian winger.
With an injury pile-up, his nation have pulled out of their friendly against Mali which was due to be played today.
