CELTIC have strengthened their first-team scouting squad by bringing in Joe Dudgeon from the City Group.

The 32-year-old talent spotter has left his position at New York City and Melbourne where he worked as scouting account manager for over three seasons, according to a report in Football Insider.

Dudgeon, born in Leeds while representing Northern Ireland at Under-21 level, will link up again with Mark Lawwell, the former head of scouting and recruitment at the City Group who currently heads up Celtic’s scouting staff.

The highly-rated Dudgeon previously worked at Manchester City alongside Lawwell as their emerging talent scout. He had originally joined as a coach within their football schools.

He had also previously worked as a coach with Northern Ireland’s Under-17s and 19s after retiring as a player.

The full-back, a former youth team prospect at Manchester United, retired in 2015 while at Hull City after a spell on loan at Barnsley. Previously, he had been at Carlisle before leaving Old Trafford.
