I am sure none of us were particularly surprised that the gap between bottom and top of the Europa League was the distance between a 3-1 win and a 3-1 defeat. Midtjylland peppered the Celtic goal before the flow of goals started, it was a mercy their intensity dropped after scoring three in eight first half minutes.
There are many issues to resolve but the core one has changed little since games against Brugge and Newco from the midpoint of last season onwards. When Celtic try to build from the back, resourceful teams man-mark against them. To advance, defenders have to pick out a player who can control the ball and pass into the space a teammate is moving into. Again, this did not happen.
Last night, in the event a forward pass reached a Celtic player, he was invariably isolated and unable to hold the ball or see a pass. Possession was lost and Midtjylland started another attack. Alternatively, central defenders break through opposition lines, as Auston Trusty did on Sunday, but among the confidence drain on show in Denmark, I was happy to see Auston hold his position. It is, of course, sacrilege these days, but in earlier times, when teams were unable to play out from the back, they went long.
One of Brendan Rodgers’ early lessons when arriving at Celtic in 2023 was the value of Reo Hatate. Reo links play better than anyone at the club. I am a firm fan but his engine looks tired this season; I was not surprised he was dropped for what promised to be a night of constant running. The extra legs may have kept the scoreline down, but we need players in the middle of the park who can take a pass while under pressure.
I shouted “Don’t let him get the cross in” as Anthony Ralston showed Krüger-Johnsen down the line before the first goal. With James Forrest on hand to cover the cut inside, Anthony made the wrong decision. Aware of this mistake, Anthony was all about not letting Krüger-Johnsen get a cross in 90 seconds later. In a moment, the game was beyond reach.
Just as you and I worried about yesterday, Liam Scales’ booking means he is one more caution away from a suspension. With four games to go we can anticipate a Trusty-Murray back line if both stay fit. Europe is rapidly becoming the least important aspect of our season.
Callum Osmand’s hamstring injury added a cost to an already profitless night. The striker sparked for Celtic after coming on and won the penalty which tempered the score. Hopefully the damage is not too severe.

That gateway into 111 from 112 at the front has always been manned by stewards. Happens every game that guys will barge past the stewards, at basic wage they don’t pursue them, not surprised.
What is new is a police presence, wasn’t able to make the Falkirk so can’t comment on that case.
I think we have fewer arseholes in our support, per head, than most clubs. Certainly the bigger ones.

Despite this 20 years being our most successful domestic 20 years and including some astonishing wins in Europe given our financial disparity.
You surely realise your hero has literally destroyed a massive advantage we enjoyed 2 years ago vs our rivals. Even you could not miss that amongst all your deflection. Surely you must be taking even more misery from your Celtic engagement this year. Or maybe not. Especially with the big games, the stairwells are hammered. The original way past the stewards was to copy someone standing ST onto the front of a plastic card. Entry into our area is visual.
So you use your own ST to access the ground then use the copy plastic bit to get into our area. As said at £11.22 an hour, stuff any idea of proofing the cards!

Good evening, friends.
25½ hours on from the final whistle and the disappointment of our result and performance hasn’t improved with time. And yet if we obliterate those 7 minutes, 33 to 40, we kept a clean sheet! And, of course, we did win the second half!
Anyway, back to reality….
When the team lines came out, there were 2 changes from last weekend and it suggested that Martin was trying to get as much European experience into the starting 11 as possible, with Tierney and Forrest replacing Saracchi and Maeda. And the early signs were decent with 2 20-yard efforts from Engels and Nygren in the first 17 minutes. But gradually we saw Midtjylland taking control of the game and keeping possession much better than we did.
Shortly after the half hour mark the game ignited, with the fuse being lit by an excellent 28 yard dipping volley which Schmichael did well to get down to and turn the shot round for a corner. But our relief at his save was short lived as the opener arrived 30 seconds later. Our opponents had possession down towards our right hand side and our defence tried to just shepherd the danger rather than actually tackle. This eventually allowed enough room for a chipped cross to the far post and an easy header into the net.
And 90 seconds later we were even worse in our defence. Again, down our right hand side we saw Tony and Arne succumb to the Moses effect, parting wide enough for a proverbial army to drive through the edge of the box and curl a wonderful strike into the far corner.
Heads visibly dropped and suddenly it was non stop onslaught – in the 40th minute I scribbled a wee note ‘just need to get to half time’ only to look back to the TV as the 3rd goal went in. Again, no real pressure from Celtic as the ball bobbled around the box allowing a shot from 16 yards which the unsighted Schmeichel could do nothing about.
In at half time, 3 down and facing the old ‘stick or twist’ decision, we saw Martin withdraw Forrest and Kenny for Maeda and Osmand. Although it was our defence that had let us down, options were limited on our depleted bench so I suppose trying to be positive, rather than plugging the leaks, made some sense.
Many of us feared that we would be lucky to get away with just a 3 goal defeat and ultimately we actually did better than that with what proved to be a consolation penalty in the 80th minute. Osmand did well to invite the challenge in the box and although he was keen to take the penalty himself, he passed responsibility to another substitute, Reo Hatate, who buried the spot kick with a bit of a sclaffed effort. But, a goal’s a goal and, for a very brief couple of minutes it was game on. 2 minutes after the penalty we really should have scored another. Ralston sent Maeda clear down the right and Daizen looked up to see Balikwisha coming in at some pace through the inside left channel. Unfortunately, Maeda’s ball in lacked pace and allowed the sliding defender to get his interception in.
Then, in the 86th minute, to cap off a disappointing night we witnessed yet another hamstring injury in a European game when Callum Osmand had to be stretchered off. The TV pictures showed that he pulled up very quickly and immediately sat down so we can only hope that the stretcher option was to prevent any immediate further damage. However, our young in form striker did look pretty distraught.
So, we remain on 4 points after 4 European games, sitting 27th in the table. The only consolation is that none of our 4 remaining opponents are faring that much better – we are due to face Feyenoord(A) [29th, 3 pts], Roma(H) [18th, 6 pts], Bologna(A) [24th, 5 pts] and Utrecht(H) [32nd, 1 pt]. So, we’ll see…..
We have now played 19 games, and have won 9, drawn 6 and lost 4. We have scored 31 goals and conceded 17.
As for the voting numbers, considering the manner of our performance I was heartened to receive 59 emails. Unfortunately, that was not enough to generate any further charity donation but hey ho. However, those votes did contribute to giving yet another player his first Man Of The Match – 19 games played and 13 different MOTMs. And, no, I’ve absolutely no idea what that tells us!!

Celtic currently sit in 2nd place, 9 points behind Hearts but with a game in hand. I expect us to kick off 12 points behind in the ‘as it stands’ table, so it’s another must win game.

are appealing for information after two officers and a steward were assaulted at Celtic Park in Glasgow on Wednesday, 29 October, 2025, during Celtic’s fixture against Falkirk.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Sutherland said: “We utterly condemn the unacceptable disorder on Wednesday, 29 October, 2025, within Celtic Park after two officers and a steward were assaulted by a large group of fans. No-one should be harmed or intimidated while carrying out their duties and being assaulted is not part of the job. This type of violent behaviour will not be tolerated, and we are doing everything we can to trace those involved and hold them accountable.
“We recognise that only a small percentage of fans behave in such a way and cause disorder, but encourage all supporters to take personal responsibility for their conduct at matches. The officers and steward were left extremely shaken and traumatised by the incident and are being offered support.
“We work closely with all clubs and event organisers to assist their plans for maintaining public safety.
“We’d urge anyone with information about these assaults and disorder to contact us as soon as possible on 101, quoting reference 2196 of Wednesday, 29 October, 2025. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
