I am sure none of us were particularly surprised that the gap between bottom and top of the Europa League was the distance between a 3-1 win and a 3-1 defeat. Midtjylland peppered the Celtic goal before the flow of goals started, it was a mercy their intensity dropped after scoring three in eight first half minutes.
There are many issues to resolve but the core one has changed little since games against Brugge and Newco from the midpoint of last season onwards. When Celtic try to build from the back, resourceful teams man-mark against them. To advance, defenders have to pick out a player who can control the ball and pass into the space a teammate is moving into. Again, this did not happen.
Last night, in the event a forward pass reached a Celtic player, he was invariably isolated and unable to hold the ball or see a pass. Possession was lost and Midtjylland started another attack. Alternatively, central defenders break through opposition lines, as Auston Trusty did on Sunday, but among the confidence drain on show in Denmark, I was happy to see Auston hold his position. It is, of course, sacrilege these days, but in earlier times, when teams were unable to play out from the back, they went long.
One of Brendan Rodgers’ early lessons when arriving at Celtic in 2023 was the value of Reo Hatate. Reo links play better than anyone at the club. I am a firm fan but his engine looks tired this season; I was not surprised he was dropped for what promised to be a night of constant running. The extra legs may have kept the scoreline down, but we need players in the middle of the park who can take a pass while under pressure.
I shouted “Don’t let him get the cross in” as Anthony Ralston showed Krüger-Johnsen down the line before the first goal. With James Forrest on hand to cover the cut inside, Anthony made the wrong decision. Aware of this mistake, Anthony was all about not letting Krüger-Johnsen get a cross in 90 seconds later. In a moment, the game was beyond reach.
Just as you and I worried about yesterday, Liam Scales’ booking means he is one more caution away from a suspension. With four games to go we can anticipate a Trusty-Murray back line if both stay fit. Europe is rapidly becoming the least important aspect of our season.
Callum Osmand’s hamstring injury added a cost to an already profitless night. The striker sparked for Celtic after coming on and won the penalty which tempered the score. Hopefully the damage is not too severe.

Haven’t posted since last Thursday but been reading everything while on holiday. Watched derby in Temple Bar pub in Adeje and it was a fine day – we should have scored more but gave up too many good looks at goal for the opposition. I didn’t get swept away in the “corner turned” narrative nor condemn BR for not playing JK or CO like it was some sort of crime against Celtic or football for two reasons – one is that ragers are really shite and secondly these lhads are playing because we have nothing else. Had we a halfway functional recruitment team or policy they would be bit part players being effectively trained and developed and getting minutes here and there, cup games etc. That they are now (or were) first and second choice and not third and fourth is down to pathetic squad management, lack of ambition and obviously some some poor luck with injuries.
Thursday I also watched in Adeje and it was a shambles. Wasn’t confident going in having seen their highlights, league position and knowing a little about them and that was made worse when I saw our team selection. What on earth makes out football management think we have the team to go toe to toe with some of the better teams in EL? It is a fantasy and it showed. How we can’t play a European type game being stuffy, tough to play through, compact and organised, keeping us in the game until the later stages – ffs it is done against us nearly every feckin week by inferior teams with inferior players wtf is wrong with us doing the same – Atalanta for example? I just don’t get it, they had time and space to hurt us and did and could have been more if they fancied it. The game also showed the weakness in our squad and the mentality of some – sure we’ve been very unlucky with injuries but we miss physicality and quality it key areas and it shows when we play a decent outfit. Our squad management has been shocking again – if only someone had the idea to at least try and bring in the physicality and quality we clearly needed eh?
Looking at the Danes team, structure, plan and everything about them makes me weep for what we could achieve. Yesterday around lunch time I read a post by PLB and it was genuinely the best post I’ve read on here for years and it broadly said that if you swapped the two boards of Celtic and Mjityland 5 years ago what do you think the current outcomes would be? I think we all know the answer to that and frankly our lot should be extremely embarrassed about that.
Remarkably few leaks regarding our managerial hunt in the week that has just gone.
Worryingly similar to a transfer window where nothing of what we’re doing makes the headlines. And as we now know, this is because we leave our deals to the end of the window and are doing nothing, hence no leaks.
It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest to see MoN in charge for the rest of the season. I don’t think we’ve done anything this week in looking for a manager.

I was surprised we set up as we did. When MoN was Ireland manager a reoccurring criticism of him was how defensive and rigid his team played practically every game. MoN knows how to lock down a game of football. He got it badly wrong in Denmark. We looked unprepared.
Midtjylland were a nightmare opponent for the politburo in the Boardroom. Just about the worst they could’ve faced at this time, optically. For all P67 and B78’s attempts to scapegoat Brendan as the anti-modernity force at the club (I do suspect there’s some truth in that), Thursday just shone a huge spotlight on our Board as yesterday’s men. A very damaging look.

You have to laugh.Our head of security,none other than a retired,Chief Super of Scottish Police.Now,we all know how he rose to that lofty position in the force.Maybe Burnley will know him from the Hun hospitality where I am sure he is feted by Brothers past and present.

My Grandson told me last night,since the protests started,they have been,obstructed,held back,pestered,for ridiculous reasons,by Stewards,accompanied by a couple of Police.Looking o rile.The guy told the Steward to FO,he had shown his ticket twice already,and for this crime,he was being arrested.Hence the outburst..

Just read the Green Brigade statement, five minutes I’ll never get back, same old same old, and it’s notable that not once in the statement does it mention supporting the team. I wonder if I’m alone in looking forward to the game tomorrow without that monotonous drum beat and the tiresome renditions of songs about the IRA.
If the GB end game is some kind of fan representation on the board, ask yourself if you’d be happy being represented by one of their self-obsessed and entitled number.

The thing is we struggle against physicality in the SPL, we struggle against physicality in Europe.
Yes, it’s different, in Europe it is big, conditioned, talented athletes.
In the SPL it’s big, body-building hammer throwers.
Yet, upping our physicality helps both domestically and in Europe.

Celtic Football Club wishes to provide the following update to our supporters following a recent incident at Celtic Park.
During our match against Falkirk on Wednesday, October 29, a member of our Matchday staff while conducting a routine ticket check at the front of the Rail Seating Section at Celtic Park was assaulted by an individual. Two police officers intervened and attempted to arrest the individual in question.
Subsequently, around 100 individuals from the Green Brigade group took part in a coordinated and orchestrated action to ‘rescue’ that individual. Many of these individuals actively sought to conceal their identity using hoods, scarves and face coverings.
This large group verbally abused and assaulted the steward and police officers, one male and one female, in a confined space and at one point there was a risk of one of the officers being pulled to the ground and trampled in amongst the larger group. The action taken by members of the Green Brigade group prevented the arrest of the individual in question.
Clearly, such violent and threatening behaviour is completely unacceptable.
In July of this year, as a result of warnings for repeated serious safety and security-related breaches of the Club’s policies and protocols, the Club determined that a suspended sanction would be applied to the Green Brigade group.
The group were notified that any future serious safety and security-related breaches of the Club’s policies and protocols by the group would result in the group’s members being suspended from attending three home matches and access to away matches would also be suspended for the relevant period.
The Club decided to issue a suspended sanction in July to give the group an opportunity to demonstrate their willingness to cooperate with the Club to ensure the Rail Seating Section is safe, well-managed and can be enjoyed by all fans.
Following this latest incident, the Club can confirm that this sanction will now be applied, beginning from this weekend. The Club has written to the Green Brigade group and also to our season ticket holders regarding this incident.
For our staff and police to be assaulted in this way is simply unacceptable. This was a serious and violent incident which cannot be accepted and the Club has no choice but to address this behaviour in the strongest terms.
Celtic Park cannot be a place for this kind of behaviour and the Club must act in the wider interests and safety of everyone who attends our matches.

Did I read somewhere yesterday that our CEO salary was more than the entire non playing staff of Midtjylland ?
If that is correct it is highly embarrassing for the club and symptomatic of where we have gone wrong for years.
Knutsen is no good without his recruitment team and scouts, same with any modern coach these days. It is a package not a magic wand….
