CELTIC AGM HELD AMID PROTESTS

THE Celtic AGM ended abruptly today amid chaotic scenes.

Chairman Peter Lawwell called for a 30-minute adjournment following a storm of boos and red cards being waved as the board attempted to play a video montage segment to the assembled crowd of shareholders.

Among those accompanying Lawwell at the top table were chief executive Michael Nicholson, chief financial officer Chris Gray and Ross Desmond, son of principal shareholder Dermot.

The meeting restarted with the chairman insisting that he would bring proceedings to a close if there was further unrest.

Desmond addressed the gathering on behalf of his father and, reading from a statement, mentioned “negativity and misinformation” surrounding the club.

That brought another reaction before Lawwell responded by asking for some of those in attendance to “show a little respect”.

Desmond went on: “There is no doubt we make mistakes and try to learn from them, we will not be bullied by aggressive factions.”

He also claimed the protesters were “people whose only vocation in life is being anti-establishment.”

Red cards continued to be waved throughout his speech forcing the chairman to draw a line under proceedings without votes on any resolutions or a Q&A session.

Lawwell said: “I am going to have to apologise to those supporters who have the best interests of the club at heart, but I am going to have to draw the meeting to a close.”

As the group left the top table there were chants of “Sack the Board”.

There will be an official announcement from Celtic later today.
