Celtic and the burnout issue

512

Delighted for Leigh Griffiths (penalty), Callum McGregor (penalty and assist) and Ryan Christie (goal) who, after a difficult few months domestically, got any reassurance necessary from a Scotland performance and result that they can compete and win on the European stage.  McGregor’s reverse pass for the goal was a thing of beauty.

The caveat is that our players will compete for four domestic trophies this season, head to the Euros with Scotland, then go straight into Celtic’s European qualifiers without as much as a long weekend down the Clyde.  To paraphrase Roy Scheider, you’re gonna need a bigger squad.

Footballers are not machines.  They have peaks and troughs of form, fitness and focus.  How many mountains can Callum McGregor climb?  We have to hope Steve Clarke cuts the Celtic players some slack in the spring internationals, while Neil Lennon should have a good hard look at the remaining three Europa League games before risking his most precious assets.

  1. NEWRADBHOY,

I agree with every word of that. In fact, I think inviting him to Celtic Park and presenting with jersey with Mr President on it is a great idea. Let’s hope it happens.

  2. Good afternoon, friends. A win for Scotland and we win the group with a game to spare, gaining ‘promotion’ to the top ‘division’. Who’s a thunk it!

    COYBIB ;-)

  3. If ever an International tourney should have been scrapped it is the UEFA Nations League but no. Designed to replace friendlies, we still have the FAI playing England at an empty Wembley, and now due to play Wales, maybe the legacy of John Delaney I don’t know but even more meaningless than Scotland playing a few days after qualifying for next year’s Euros. Harry Kane will get his 50th cap today. Got his first in 2015.

    Ah David Francey

He gave us ” A mix up between Neef and goalkeeper Hood”

  5. Ernie Lynch,

Thank you for your polite response.

Subsequently i do not expect to hear you complaining about any of the aforementioned loss of freedoms, social costs or the impending austerity measures that will inevitably come.

  6. As I said before there must be two McBurnie’s – the one who is an EPL striker and the window cleaner- I’m trying to work out which one is in the Scotland team

Never ever even contemplate “two” Oliver mcburnies …. one is bad enough

He is mingling … and a Hun :-)

  11. Anyone who thinks that,”Ollie,three pair a sports socks,furra pound,Mc Burnie”is a footballer,never mind striker,is a fun.Clarke making his way right to the top of that list.

    Oliver McBurnie v Leigh Griffiths

Is like comparing me to an architect (I didn’t even like tech drawing)

£20m ????? I hope he does well in a Scotland jersey … that doesn’t say much for me as I thought Ryan Jack played no bad the other night :-) (still a very limited footballer)

  13. Every Manager has their blind spot and Mr Clarke’s I’d MCBurnie shaped – two, possibly three certain goals if a decent striker gets them

  14. Ryan, excellent again.Armstrong not far behind.Apart from Duffield a cross,Palmer doing well.Apart from a striker,a very decent pool taking shape here.Cant remember a Scotland team showing so much very decent football from back to middle.

  15. Morning all – well it is here anyway.

From an overcast Piedmont in the Carolinas.

Doing some drainage work in the back garden – ran out of cement etc so went to the local DIY store late yesterday.

Noticeably more masks being worn – 187,907 new cases in USA on Friday should make even some of the dafties who have gone maskless to date actually put one on.

    That wasn’t a misprint – 187,907 on Friday & 157,253 yesterday – new cases.

Maybe our friend Colt45 could tell us what it’s like in Texas – apparently El Paso is as bad as NYC was in May.

Bodies in freezer trucks, patients in corridors, staff exhausted, prisoners used to move dead bodies – governor overruling cities like El Paso who’ve tried to close down pubs & restaurants at a critical time.

Stay safe everyone. Aff oot to the garden.

Scotland should be ahead at h-time but are 1 down and they are not that prolific in front of goals.

I hate scapegoating but McBurnie has a touch like Red Rum and the features of WW1 German Soldier.

    ______

😂 😂 He’s just missing the wee spiky Prussian helmet.
