Celtic and the burnout issue

512

Delighted for Leigh Griffiths (penalty), Callum McGregor (penalty and assist) and Ryan Christie (goal) who, after a difficult few months domestically, got any reassurance necessary from a Scotland performance and result that they can compete and win on the European stage.  McGregor’s reverse pass for the goal was a thing of beauty.

The caveat is that our players will compete for four domestic trophies this season, head to the Euros with Scotland, then go straight into Celtic’s European qualifiers without as much as a long weekend down the Clyde.  To paraphrase Roy Scheider, you’re gonna need a bigger squad.

Footballers are not machines.  They have peaks and troughs of form, fitness and focus.  How many mountains can Callum McGregor climb?  We have to hope Steve Clarke cuts the Celtic players some slack in the spring internationals, while Neil Lennon should have a good hard look at the remaining three Europa League games before risking his most precious assets.

terrific player but loves to concoct situations to hit the deck

  7. 10 in a row is the top priority this season, more to the point, it is the only priority this season,

Europa League is gone now, rest the squad for these games.

The focus is on the league now, nothing else matters.

    (Well maybe the quadruple treble)

agree , forget thems nine , we want to beat or own record.

  8. BIG PACKY 1 (15 Nov @ 6.04pm) It says a lot about Scotland or maybe doesn’t say much for Scotland the way it’s treated it’s Catholic community for centuries, but I think any independent government would leave schools as they are. The SNP and Labour would need our vote and independent Scotland would want a top education system of which Catholic schools are to the fore. Just look at the waiting lists of all denominations. One thing that pisses me off is this “it’s not acceptable in a modern Scotland “ type blarney when attacks happen to the Catholic community. It wasn’t acceptable in the industrial revolution, it wasn’t acceptable in the Victorian era,and it’s bloody well not acceptable now either although things improving, there’s a good way to go yet. Westminster won’t progress things in ma humble opinion. Hail Hail !

  9. ADI-my 2 uncles passed away with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.Both were in pain for a long time.

My dad was covid positive one day and dead the next.

    Life’s a bitch

  10. Well what a fine evening’s stroll from the Gorbals, through Bridgeton and along the London Road to the home of hope, hoops and happiness.

    NOT!!!!

Rule number one of taking pictures, in fact it isn’t even a rule….it’s like breathing to live….if you don’t do it just give up. Anyway the equivalent to breathing in photographic terms is….make sure you can see and focus on the desired subject/panorama.

That’s right….I forgot my spectacles and out of the galleria of stunning snaps only a few survived and even they leave a lot to be desired. However like life’s weary trudge along the yellow brick road to the land of Oz, dreams, magic and pulling Judy Garland, I will keep on until the pot of gold glows in my hands.

These are the ones that survived.

I’ll try and remember my goggles tomorrow …or Tuesday….or whatever day it turns out to be.

Does the actual day no longer matter to most people? I have to keep checking and while the covid lockdown has been a major recent factor, it all really began when the pubs stopped opening later on a Sunday.

The day of the week then became immaterial.

Anyway ….the photies…..here we go ten in a row. (Eleven really….maybe an omen)

Been admiring your pix all week – lovely stuff.

Is it me or has there been work done behind Jock’s statue – I mean the flower/bushes etc.

I just didn’t remember it being so big.

Reason I ask is that I have a personalised brick at the base of Jock’s statue & I was wondering if any had been moved.

Anyone else’s help please would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  12. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Given the heading of this thread (Burnout) … worth pointing out Ryan Christie played 177 minutes in last two Scotland games.

Only Kieran Tierney (210) played more.

    Thanks for nothing Steve Clarke.

Well done Ryan. For a young man who was recently exposed to Covid-19 (due to lax procedures while on international duty) your energy is commendable.

  13. Celtic and the burnt out issue…….Steve Clarke’s got little to wrack his brains over between now and March 2021. He’s no Fenian but hates der Hun. If an intermediary was to come his way it would be like a Convid vaccine offered to a Mink in heretic Denmark.
