CELTIC will discover this week if they can land Brescia star Ahmad Benali for free.
The Hoops have been linked with the Libyan international midfielder, along with Serie A sides Torino and Sassuolo.
Serie B side Brescia are in financial meltdown and could be wound up this week by the Italian FA.
They are due to pay their salaries by Thursday and have been told all their players will be available to leave the club for nothing if they fail to pay them again.
That would allow Ronny Deila to snatch the former Manchester City youngster for nothing.
Brescia’s sporting director Andrea Iaconi admitted: “Even if we wanted to sell our players, we cannot do anything until January 15 when we are due to meet with the FA.
“We are in negotiations about the future of the club.”
Benali has already indicated he would be open for a return to British football and Celtic will monitor the outcome of Brescia’s meeting this week closely.
