BRENDAN RODGERS has suffered a setback in his search for a new left-back with the announcement Wolves’ Hugo Bueno is on his way to Feyenoord.
The Spanish Under-21 ace was on the Celtic manager’s wanted list in January, but the Midlands club rejected a loan move for the defender.
Rodgers apparently renewed his interest in this transfer window, but any chance of the player joining the champions on a temporary season-long switch appears to have been scuppered.
ON THE MOVE…Celtic-linked Hugo Bueno is heading for Feyenoord.
Bueno is heading for Rotterdam on a loan contract, according to Dutch sports media outlet Voetbal International.
The Dutch giants were keen to add another left-sided back-four operator to their squad with Quilindschy Hartman out with a long-term injury. They have signed Twente full-back Gijs Smal and it looks as though they will be successful in their quest for the Molineux star.
Leeds United and Norwich City will also be disappointed in the news as they, too, were in the chase for Bueno who has been with Wolves since 2019 after joining the club’s academy from Areosa. He has made 49 first-team appearances.
Rodgers will now be forced to look elsewhere as he urgently requires cover for Greg Taylor.
The Hoops gaffer offloaded £3.75million misfit Alexandro Bernabei to Brazilian club SC Internacional in March for the remainder of the year.
Sergio Gomez was another name on Rodgers’ wish list, but the Barcelona-born full-back quit Manchester City for La Liga side Real Sociedad last month in a £7.6million switch.
Leicester City’s Luke Thomas and Liverpool’s Own Beck were two other names considered at the turn of the year.
