CELTIC BLOW IN DEFENDER MOVE

CELTIC have been told they are wasting their time in their £4million pursuit of Norwegian international right-back Omar Elabdellaoui.

Olympiakos Head Coach Pedro Martins insists he has no intention of selling his 27-year-old defender in this transfer window.

Elabdellaoui has been at the Greek giants for almost five years and is valued in the £8million bracket, if they decided to part company with their consistent full-back who has also played for Manchester City and Ronny Deila’s old club Stromgodset.

Martins said: “Many European clubs have been interested in our players, but I have not had a single player who has come to my door asking to leave.

“We are focused on our goals of winning the title again and we won’t risk that by selling any players.

“To achieve our goals this season, we need a quality squad, so none of our first team players will be sold this month.”

Brendan Rodgers is looking for a long-term replacement for 32-year-old Mikael Lustig who is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a return to Sweden with AIK Stockholm monitoring his situation.

Anthony Ralston, 20, has been reintroduced to the top side in recent months and performed well in the 3-0 wins over Motherwell and Dundee last month.

He also came on for the injured Lustig at the start of the second-half of the 1-0 loss at Ibrox before the turn of the year.

Rodgers knows he needs competition in the No.2 slot and has also been linked with Atalanta’s Belgian international Timothy Castagne, but the asking price of around £8million is likely to block the move.
