Celtic-City partnership brings Roberts to Glasgow

Very pleased we have signed Patrick Roberts (18) on loan from Manchester City for 18 months. A few quick observations on this signing:

He’s another wide attacking player. I’ve lost count of the number of wide attacking players Ronny has signed but it’s far too many. Only Stuart Armstrong has come close to making regular appearances. This means we are still short of suitable options here, so need to recruit for the position, and that we have made a number of serious oversights.

The ideal signing is a loan with an option to buy. Next is a straight purchase, then a loan without an option to buy, but the market is changing.

I mentioned last month that as a consequences of the uber-rich hoarding players (Patrick is a case in point, £12m for a player who will be peripheral for years), mastering the loan market will be a key element to enable clubs to over perform.

Celtic appear to have struck up an understanding with Manchester City, one of the richest clubs/biggest hoarders in world football. There will be rich pickings here. Such was the demand for his signature, Patrick wouldn’t be near Celtic Park unless on a loan.

Jason Denayer’s time at Celtic worked very well for Celtic, the player and City, which is why we were able to secure Patrick for 18 months. More of this kind of thing, please, Celtic.

Welcome to Celtic, Patrick.

You will now be accused of trying to gloss over yesterday`s defeat! Just wait 0:-)

  3. Excited by this one, just need to avoid our leagues hammer throwers & make it to the summer unscathed. Could be our Ace in the hole for qualification.

Can’t beat a bit of diversionary news. Basic PR that even Lawwell has mastered.

  5. Welcome Patrick. A genuinely gifted player that under normal circumstance would put bums on seats in CP.

Hope he enjoys getting booted up and down the park with little protection from referees.

Otherwise it will be a long 18 months for him.

  6. Pointless signing. Pointless in that we are developing a player for another team ahead of developing one of our own. Pointless in that the position he plays we already have at least 8 players in our first team squad who play there.

  7. The RC player conned the ref. (Easy thing to do if it goes against Celtic) with a dive he was cute, same as Craig Gordon being molested in goals, he got that one right but, Gordon dived, and no one laid a hand on him, been here before, some in here backing the ref? (That’s the way they see it fair enough) but some are just backing the ref. To suit there agenda to put the boot into the board and RD, not all, some, and it’s the usual suspects, and who are they? The ones that haven’t been here since the last game we lost of course. – See more at: http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/not-good-enough-lurching-off-plan/comment-page-4/#comment-2766107

  8. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

Never let a left footed footballer take a penalty kick.

It’s just looks awkward, and more often than not they are going to miss the damn thing.

Kevin Sheedy being the obvious exception.

  9. Will Ronny play Jamesy, GMS, Paddy Roberts, and Kazim-Richards all at the same time:)

    In defence:)

The negativity on here today is ridiculous. It is quite obvious that some `supporters`, possibly the majority, believe that we should beat EVERY team in Scotland EVERY time we play them. I can only take so much of that child-like nonsense in one day so I shall have a very small break and, if we beat Aberdeen on Wednesday, see if the Blog is any more enjoyable on Thursday.

    Cheerio for now,

At that time,we had a board filled with geniuses compared to the current nonentities.

Everyone saw the CL and associated TV money as a cash cow,a holy grail. A tiny wee members club where you paid the admission and took the rewards.

We were there,in wi the big boys. And we got f…d over by people who wouldn’t take the risk.

Aye,see where not taking the risk has left us. A laughing stock. A feeder team for minnows in England and a rest home for duds from Europe

    Welcome Patrick..

    Can you score penalties?

    Can you play central defence?

    can you score Goals?

Can you be a central holding midfielder?

Can you lead in game tactical changes?

    Do you have game craft?

If you can do all of these things simultaneously that would be even better.

  13. Welcome Paddy Roberts. I hope you don’t tick the box on the employee benefits package that gives you membership of CQN. Beyond the excellent headline post from the author, fast becoming a sadly miserable self-loathing place for the perennially unhappy with their lot brigade.

    Up the Celts !!

    5-in-a-row !

    Make mine a double !

p.s Celtic find us a striker worthy of the name or get rid of the scouting team !!! –

  14. Roberts, Forrest, GMS, Armstrong, Allan, Christie, Johansen, Rogic, McGregor, Commons, Henderson (on loan)

A team of attacking midfielders. Meanwhile we have one striker, one half fit right back, no defensive midfielders.

    Squad management?

Yes, it’s a great signing especially on an unusually long lone term.

To get the player over two seasons is a bonus, and good sign that we can afford a player of his calibres’

It also leaves other wide players we have, with the notion they have to improve or move on.

  17. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Get Mc.Guinness on to the training ground and into the players’ heads.

If anyone is in any doubt about his ability, get a hold of his book, Until Victory Always, and read how he took Donegal, the national GAA joke to national dominance and the county all overs feared.

Not only that, he caused all the dinosaurs to rethink how they approached the game.

  18. Cmon Bhoys lighten up.

Celtic dont need to be doing well in Europe.

Doesnt matter if we get beat by Ross County.

Results dont count in this new RD approach.

Radical it is….every time we get beat…we just accept it, no matter what.

Im sure that will be very successful for Ronny.

  19. i was cheered up by this until i read that he’s a pointless diversion.

what with sviatchenko, roberts and possibly ckr (for ciftci) coming in to improve our squad its a very depressing day
