Celtic-City partnership brings Roberts to Glasgow

497

Very pleased we have signed Patrick Roberts (18) on loan from Manchester City for 18 months. A few quick observations on this signing:

He’s another wide attacking player. I’ve lost count of the number of wide attacking players Ronny has signed but it’s far too many. Only Stuart Armstrong has come close to making regular appearances. This means we are still short of suitable options here, so need to recruit for the position, and that we have made a number of serious oversights.

The ideal signing is a loan with an option to buy. Next is a straight purchase, then a loan without an option to buy, but the market is changing.

I mentioned last month that as a consequences of the uber-rich hoarding players (Patrick is a case in point, £12m for a player who will be peripheral for years), mastering the loan market will be a key element to enable clubs to over perform.

Celtic appear to have struck up an understanding with Manchester City, one of the richest clubs/biggest hoarders in world football. There will be rich pickings here. Such was the demand for his signature, Patrick wouldn’t be near Celtic Park unless on a loan.

Jason Denayer’s time at Celtic worked very well for Celtic, the player and City, which is why we were able to secure Patrick for 18 months. More of this kind of thing, please, Celtic.

Welcome to Celtic, Patrick.

I couldn’t do it but there you go, clearly Celtic Hearts Aberdeen were not interested.

I wonder who has scouted Richards?

    -Dudu Duhan?

  2. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

No back up striker. Money down the toilet on Ciftci. Third rate manager. A recruitment policy built on loans. Adopting the role of Man City’s third team. Positioning yourself in Europe somewhere between the champions of Iceland and Sweden. What’s not to like? This is how Lawwell earns his millions.

And now Richard Foster trashing this Celtic team on the radio. Says it all.

See John Terry is looking for a club. Maybe a seasoned pro like Terry could sort out our defensive issues. I read somewhere recently that he is an admirer of Celtic.

I’m an admirer of Celtic too. And at 69 I’m as seasoned as they get. I feel pretty sure I could sort out a few defensive issues.

There are very few of us who would not change employer for a multiple 3 or 4 times your salary. Perhaps more.

    Apart from you, of course.

  5. Erik Sviatchenko, Patrick Roberts, Colin Kazim-Richards

3 players in, will Man City give us another loan or does Dudu Dahan have any more players to give ?

perhaps to put your comments into perspective

we have lost two domestic cup ties under ronny, both semi finals and both with ten men, the first as a result of an appalling bit of referring

i can’t understand what you mean about ten men being harder to play against, if you’re suggesting we should do better with ten than eleven then i’m not following your logic. if it really was the case instead of some football cliche then every team we played against in scotland would start with ten

  7. BSR.

Top form today.Especially the reply regarding Thompson on the previous thread. A belter.

Seldom do I disagree with you , but Tierney ( IMHO ) was fortunate to receive a chance of first team football. Izzy losing form. Mulgrew being injured. Blackett being mince .These circumstances resulted in Tierney getting a chance. By chance I mean more than a cameo role.

    I’m delighted he did.

Which begs the question…….How many more have we let go without a proper chance.

When compared to some of the expensive misfits we’ve bought give me the youths any day. They play for the jersey.

Plenty of Lennoxtown graduates play at a good level. If we utilise more , then we can save on the projects and invest in more experienced players . If possible.

If the fans had more patience it would help.

Even though it could cost a treble.

    Just a different opinion mate.

Meanwhile keep up with the funny posts.

    They’re appreciated.HH.

    Aff Oot. Be nice everyone.

It is some unique bizaroo stuff that Celtic facing 11 men with 10 players means we should win, you’d have to ask the idiots why that is logical??

  10. Couple of points to make —

For the SPFL / MIB Ludge the season is now over.

Stopping the Treble was their big sorry only target this season.

Job is now complete with little of the outright MIB mistakes that were required last year.

Very simple game plan and it worked a treat.

Interesting to watch CT working the numbers when it came to StJ bookings.

Always an extra foul available for the boys in blue plus a refusal to book any of the back 4 as they would then be one poor tackle away from dismissal — not a good place for a defender to be.

Some comments on the players — in addition to those that are playing games with the manager there are also those who cannot cope with the jersey, the expectation or the demands.

    LG is terrible a penalties.

Bundle of nerves who cannot focus or manage the moment methodically.

You have the “cat on a hot tin roof” run up and then the lazy blast that I could read from 15 miles away. I think there are a number of people manipulating him with false praise followed by over the top trenchant criticism — he is being worked on.

Then there is the midfield or in yesterday’s case the complete lack of it.

Kraft legs Krane and Forst Gump meets the Roadrunner.

Both phoning it in as they dream of PL flooding them to warmer climes in the summer.

Worse than two men down on to of SA trying hide behind his shadow.

We were lucky they only got three.

As for the future — just when you think we cannot be anymore clueless or disfunctional another shark gets jumped.

The 30K crowd is coming and we still have not reached rock bottom.

All we have left to play is guess the bonus.

  11. GK – Gordon Baily

    RB – Lustig Janko

    LB – Tierney Izaguirre

CB – Svietchenko Simunovic Ambrose Boyata Blackett O’Connell

CM – Brown Bitton Mulgrew Johansen

AM – Allan Christie McGregor Armstrong Rogic Commons

W – Forrest GMS Roberts Boerrigter

    ST – Griffiths CKR Cole

out on loan Henderson, Stokes, Nesbitt, Scepovic, Fisher

A squad capable of qualifying for Champions League?

33 players. at least 10 too many

  12. ANGEL GABRIEL

Great post and the answer to our playing problems.

I fear for Nesbitt’s future at Celtic, I really do.

    AND THAT IS A SCANDAL!

SACK THE BOARD AN DEILA COLLINS AND KENNEDAY!

In an earlier post I exonerated Ronny.

Both yesterday and against Inverness last year both games should have been put to bed before any refereeing interventions.

After half a minute yesterday Ross County were shitting themselves and we still could not kill them off.

County and Inverness are simply the latest in a run of less than satisfactory cup exits.

DONE DEAL: Colin Kazim-Richards has left Feyenoord and signed a 2,5 year deal for Celtic with reportedly no transfer fee involved.

  17. Was at the game yesterday and sad to say the red card was correct. The foul on Craig was missed but Celtic were poor and even before the sending off, Ross County were coming back into the game. Stuart Armstrong is being forced to play in aposition that does not suit him and it is destroying him. Usually, I am a happy clapper but I must say that I have now joined the ranks of those who have lost faith in Ronnie and to cap a really bad weekend, we buy Richards. Why, why, why, why oh why?

No, it didn’t. It worked very well for Jason Denayer and Manchester City.

It didn’t work very well for us at all.

We sent him back to his club a better player, while we had to start from scratch without him and VVD, just in time for the CL qualifiers, in which we failed.

“Worked very well” would be accurate if he had signed a 4-year contract. For us. He didn’t.

  25. First post in 2 months probably be another2 months to my next if ever. Deeply disappointed yesterday, we weren’t at our best but like Cup Semi last year it was the red card that cost us. Not too happy about Richard’s signing but if he is wearing the Hoops I will support him to the hilt and hope he proves us all wrong.

More than anything else since the game ended yesterday, I have been deeply disappointed with CQN. I used tolove this place and felt part of a family here.

I now feel totally disconnected even with posters I rated as good ghuys, I will go back to what I was before I found CQN, a one man CSC. Win, lose or draw.

If Richards is a free signing, it reminds me of the scene in Phoenix Nights when Brian Potter asks the nice but dim Spencer why he should hire him… “Because it won’t cost you a penny.”

    “When can you start?”
