Celtic-City partnership brings Roberts to Glasgow

497

Very pleased we have signed Patrick Roberts (18) on loan from Manchester City for 18 months. A few quick observations on this signing:

He’s another wide attacking player. I’ve lost count of the number of wide attacking players Ronny has signed but it’s far too many. Only Stuart Armstrong has come close to making regular appearances. This means we are still short of suitable options here, so need to recruit for the position, and that we have made a number of serious oversights.

The ideal signing is a loan with an option to buy. Next is a straight purchase, then a loan without an option to buy, but the market is changing.

I mentioned last month that as a consequences of the uber-rich hoarding players (Patrick is a case in point, £12m for a player who will be peripheral for years), mastering the loan market will be a key element to enable clubs to over perform.

Celtic appear to have struck up an understanding with Manchester City, one of the richest clubs/biggest hoarders in world football. There will be rich pickings here. Such was the demand for his signature, Patrick wouldn’t be near Celtic Park unless on a loan.

Jason Denayer’s time at Celtic worked very well for Celtic, the player and City, which is why we were able to secure Patrick for 18 months. More of this kind of thing, please, Celtic.

Welcome to Celtic, Patrick.

  2. Tontine,

I hope you are correct. I think that RD’s strength is in building aspects of a football organisation. I’d would like him to operate in that role, but I think that his replacement on the coaching front needs to happen soon to let the new team settle in before the crucial games next season.

Getting on my soapbox for a minute, I think we should try to offer constructive suggestions on the way forward. In fact, the club should set up some structure to tap into the vast resource that exists in the fan base.

Commons has been mismanaged and played out of position by Ronnie & Jonny .

Between him and Stokes we have lost 40 to 50 goals if played in the right position.

Never mind Armstrong and GMS will fill the gap.

We probably have a couple of attacking midfielders too many and could probably do with a specialist in CM.

Still that’s probably the squad going into the qualifiers.

ah well that was a bad result.disappointed as i am at any Celtic defeat this one was sore.

i had a bad feeling as soon as sending off occured,we should have had the strength guile and craft to still overcome Ross County but there is a lack of fight there. We are getting pushed about physically by teams we should not be.I say this with respect to Ross County as they adapted to our sending off better than us

Best wishes to Ross County who played us and won well.Good luck in the final.

    keep the head Celts

  14. We needed a strong defensive midfielder for this window & a striker to take the load off LG we’ve done neither.

Henderson will return in the summer. Will Ciftci? Stokes?

We really need to be trying to move on about a dozen players (adding Boerrigter and those out onloan to your list). Squad has too many who don’t contribute.

  17. traditionalist88 on

    Timaloy29

Yep. I’d add Stokes to that and hopefully Henderson. Stokes has scored a lot of goals for Celtic and is technically far superior to some of the clowns we have picked up over the last few years.

I am far from his biggest fan but the guy can have a role to play in the squad given you can rely on him for goals at least domestically.

Also think Fletcher will be a Celtic player when he’s a free agent in the summer. Off to Marseilles to top up his pension pot for a few months then a pay cut to live the dream ;-)

At the famous ludge meeting whereupon the 5 way agreement was made with Celtic´s PLC fully

represented. It would appear that it was professionally estimated by our in resident and

all powerful experts that it would take ten years for the Old Firm to be fully back in business.

Acceptance that never in a gazillion years – especially with what is going on at the moment,

are any teams from this footballing backwater ever going to get invited to even any second rate

European league. This being a problem for the moustached Ebeneezer as that´s all he cares about.

Celtic would not stand in the way of the hun rejuvenation at any level for an exchange that

Celtic would get a run at ten in a row and can turn a wee profit every year. A league cup or a

Scottish cup would be sacrificed every season possibly even both at the altar of spreading around

the glory to the wee teams until the huns get back. That will keep the delinquent turnstyle fodder

interested with their “remember the day we went to Hampden and we were in the local courier” memories

and allow them to accept the huns wounded position and situation while Celtic keep winning the SPL.

With the proviso that Celtic cannot be seen to be doing well financially within the CL and winning

everything before them domestically. We know that is very achievable for Celtic but it will kill the

Scottish game that only works within certain parameters, That would not fit in with the affordable product

replacement strategy. An attempt to realign the entire Scottish game. Celtic will collect UEFA coefficient

points hopefully along the way meantime awaiting the rejuvenation.

The faith of the non Old Firm fans will be boosted while doing so, get them back believing

in the product with a few nice day out memories. Make the spend gap smaller between the Old Firm and

the rest. That will keep the moustached Ebeneezer purring as he has no interest except avoiding any

situation where he might have to dip into his reserves rather than getting some beer money every annum.

The blazers, journoes, pundits, ground keepers, mascots, catering staff, ticket staff want to keep their

jobs. They and their welfare (and ours ;-) is far more important than the development of the sport

A previously non involved manager within the Scottish game would need recruited for the Old Firm

to see this one completely through. Better safe than sorry. Rangers by the time their rejuvenation

would be complete should be capable of stopping ten in a row. Which should result in wee increase in

interest and TV revenue will be seen. Everyone will be happy it will all be back to normal and we hopefully

will be well placed for when the EPL bubble bursts.

    Lodge meeting is now closed.
