CELTIC CONFIRM SHAW DEAL

NEIL LENNON has confirmed the summer arrival of Sheffield Wednesday’s exciting midfielder Liam Shaw.

The versatile 19-year-old, who can also play in central defence, has agreed a pre-contract with the champions.

The Yorkshire club will receive £300,000 in compenation in a cross-border transfer with Shaw coming out of contract on July 1.

It’s clear Lennon has already kicked off his recruitment for the new season and was just pipped by Liverpool on deadline day for Preston’s centre-back Ben Davies.

Despite some ferocious criticism and calls for his head during a disappointing campaign, the Hoops boss has every intention of being in the Parkhead hot seat for the foreseeable future.

Lennon, spealing to the Daily Record, admitted: “I haven’t said I wouldn’t be. I’ve not yet spoken to Dominic McKay, but I speak to Peter Lawwell every day. I speak to Dermot Desmond, I speak to Nick Hammond. Yes, of course, I’m involved in the planning for the next transfer window.

“We’ve completed a deal for Liam Shaw, he’s signed a pre-contract. So, that’s done and we’re looking ahead.”

The new Bhoy repeatedly rejected the Yorkshire outfit’s attempts to accept new terms to take his career to the next level at Celtic.

Shaw joined Wednesday at the age of eight before making his first-team debut early last season. He signed his first professional contract in December 2018, which will run out in the summer.

Shaw has established himself in the first team this time around, scoring one goal in 15 appearances.

The teenager was in action last night when former Hoops target Steven Fletcher, who was on Lennon’s wanted list after being freed by the Hillsborough outfit, scored the only goal to give Stoke City their first win of 2021.

Michael O’Neill’s side looked set to make it 10 league games without a win until the 84th minute when the veteran one-time Scotland international striker turned in a knock-down from a corner to sink the club he left last summer.
