CELTIC boss Ronny Deila is lining up a move for Manchester United kid Saidy Janko. The Swiss teenager is on the SPFL champions’ radar as Deila looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new campaign.
Janko was signed by former manager David Moyes two years ago, but has yet to make a first team breakthrough at Old Trafford.
Moyes paid around £700,000 to land the kid from FC Zurich as a project for the future and he has played just 45 minutes in last season’s sensational League Cup defeat at MK Dons.
Janko was loaned to Bolton for the second half of last season and impressed under ex-Hoops gaffer Neil Lennon.
The 19-year-old, who operates at right-back or further advanced, caught the attention of several scouts in his 10 appearances in the Championship.
Now Celtic are among the teams considering a swoop for the Under-19 international who appears unlikely to get chances in the senior campaign ahead under Louis van Gaal.
Deila is pouring over his options as he continues his tinkering of the squad.
As yet centre-back Dedryck Boyata is the only confirmed arrival, but the Norwegian aims to add more recruits during this transfer window.
However, Deila has ruled out a marquee signing to boost Celtic’s hopes of qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League.
The Hoops gaffer has told Parkhead fans to forget about big-money transfers until they are competing more regularly with Europe’s elite.
But Deila also insists his squad will not be weakened in their bid to make the big time this summer.
And he is adamant Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk is going nowhere for now – and when he does leave it will be to go to one of Europe’s top clubs.
Deila said: “To pay £5milion or £6million? Not now, I don’t think that will happen.
“If we make the Champions League and we earn money over time then things can change. But now it’s more important to find the right player in the category we can afford.
“It won’t be £5million or £6million because then you are also talking about what kind of salary they could command.
“Are they going to ruin the whole structure of the club? There has to be some correlation between salary and transfer fee as well.”
On Van Dijk, Deila said: “I speak a lot to Virgil. I have control of the situation. He knows what I want and how we are going to do things. I also know what he is thinking.
“Virgil is looking forward to next season with Celtic and is going to stay here for the qualifiers.
“He is a top player and if he signs for somebody it should be a big club. If not, he should stay here.”
