CELTIC EYE WIDE BHOY

BENFICA winger Felipe Jota is on Ange Postecoglou’s wanted list.

The Celtic boss is looking to add width to his squad with Ryan Christie’s future uncertain while Mikey Johnston and Karamoko Dembele have failed to figure in his first-team squads since being crocked in the pre-season game against Bristol City.

Twenty-two-year-old Jota has emerged as a potential option and the clubs could agree a loan deal before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, according to a report in the Daily Record.

He spent last season on loan with Real Vallodolid in La Liga, scoring once in 17 appearances, and it is believed the Lisbon outfit are open to sending the wide man out again to gain more experience.

Jota was a member of the Portugal Under-19 team which won the European Championship in 2018 with the youngster’s five goals making him joint top scorer at the tournament.

Postecoglou is known to favour wingers and the squad is light in this department. Liel Abada is proving to be a bargain at £3.5million on the right while James Forrest, who struggled with injury last season, didn’t make the squad for Thursday’s dramatic Europa League confrontation in Alkmaar where the Parkhead  men lost 2-1, but still got through to the group stages on a 3-2 aggregate.

Jota could finalise a temporary transfer on Monday.
