CELTIC FACE HEARTS IN LEAGUE CUP

HOLDERS Celtic face a trip to Tynecastle to take on Hearts in the League Cup quarter-final.
Ronny Deila’s men knocked the Edinburgh side out of the Scottish Cup with a 4-0 win the last time the sides met in the capital 10 months ago.But they drew a blank in the weekend goalless draw at Parkhead, despite overwhelming pressure throughout 90 minutes of a one-sided performance. Celtic had a late Leigh Griffiths goal disallowed for offside but no analysis of this crucial decision was provided on last night’s Sportscene. The BBC’s flagship Scottish football programme did however show the goals from a Rangers v Juventus match from 37 years ago.
Now the SPFL champions, who beat Dundee United 2-0 in last season’s Final, will get the opportunity to put things right in the last-four meeting.
The Tannadice side, who sacked former Hoops skipper Jackie McNamara as their manager at the weekend, face Hibs in a repeat of last year’s quarter-final. United keeper Rado Cierzniak was the hero in the penalty shoot-out following a 3-3 draw after extra-time.
The next round of the competition will also see a Highland derby at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium after Inverness Caley Thistle and Ross County were paired together.
Championship newcomers Morton, who knocked out Motherwell in extra-time in the previous round, will face St Johnstone at Cappielow. The fixtures will be played over October 27/28 with the semi-finals scheduled for the last weekend in January. The final will take place on March 13, 2016.
The BBC has not decided on which re-run of an ancient Rangers game that they will show instead of featuring one of the above ties.
